It's not bad to like "black and white" morals characters, they tend to have principles and those principles tend to be challenged that makes them question their position and they become stronger for sticking to in with a strong awareness of the consequences.
Gray characters are pragmatists that shoot for results off the bat. They're not idealists, they're doers which is understandable for those who want to see the world for what it is rather than what it could or should be much less aim for. The problem with gray characters is that they're much closer to cops than "black and white" moral characters in that they let the job wear on them too much and shit gets too crazy after a while.
It's easy to write off the former as naive because sometimes they usually are, but usually said characters reflect someone who wants to see a better world rather than seek comfort in the one that already is much less their "work." Not to mention characters like Superman or Kamen Rider give people a better image to aspire for rather than wallow in cynicism.

The real root of the moralfag hypocrisy is that their actions and decisions simply aren't founded in any reasonable human behavior, and make unbelievable and shitty characters because of it. The only reason they can do it is because they're given lolplot super powers and virtually never feel any repercussions for their actions.
As an example from the vidya. someone like Ramza typically isn't called a moralfag despite the fact he constantly makes decisions that benefit others rather than himself. This is because he constantly struggles and sacrifices to do what he wants. He loses friends, is forced to kill relatives, and gains absolutely no honor or fame for his actions until long long after his death. He's never shown as feeling superior for his "good" choices, he simply does what he wants to do for his own reasons and that's that.
Meanwhile, Delita who pushes for the same goals with completely different means is never really viewed as evil because at the end of the day his "selfish" actions are truly beneficial to the entire kingdom for generations.
Human beings aren't complicated, which is why moralfags are looked down upon, when they're somehow even more shallow than an already simple subject. Evil characters typically avoid the same stigma because the excuse is usually that they're lolinsane.

I think the argument's for the more recent Riders. After Ryuki, writers didn't try very hard to focus on the depth of their heroes so long as there was something to them to be quickly entertained by. There's a few exceptions, namely Ryotaro of Den-O and Tsukasa of Decade, but they're very circumstantial.

"Moralfags" are largely one-dimensional. They never stop to think about what they do, to ponder the meanings of right, wrong, good, and evil. They blindly maintain an arbitrary stance, and never display any hesitation in action. By this, they are unrealistic and unengaging, because they are not human.
The only ways to reconcile this tired archetype is to present situations where the moralfag is either proven to be a fanatic, and thusly becomes a villain or goes insane when their feeble perceptions collapse, or is forced to deeply reconsider his/her naive position for a more guarded, perhaps even hostile, stance.
And in the end what exactly are you preserving by being a hero? The only purpose we have is to make endless copies of ourselves through childbirth. Admittedly I haven't played the wonderful 101, my brother awhile ago told me I could borrow his wii u if I wanted so I plan to play at some point. As far as over the top heros (which I'm assuming wonder red is like) I enjoy them as typically their premises either will rarely or never take themselves seriously, and if they do have a serious moment then the character changes to more better fit the moment.

People have this odd notion that all entertainment needs to be as deep and though provoking as possible and make you question your morals.
W101 is not meant to be taken serious at face value. People don't always want to play as Johnny Everyman that they can relate to. Sometimes it's fun to play as the insane, stubborn characters that are who they are throughout the story. Whether that's a good or evil character mattering is all up to personal taste. Seeing these characters clash with real world logic can be especially fun.
