That's not how that works and it's even explained in the video
Mario's location data is stored as 3 shorts (which are 16 bit ints). His location data never increases or decreases in size, it just loops back around. So if his x position is 32767 (0111111111111111 in binary) and he moves right one unit, it becomes (1111111111111111) which is -32768. Then if he moves right again it becomes (1111111111111110) which is -32767. And if he keeps moving right eventually he'll reach 32767 again.

Because the game is incredibly fun to play. Fairly easy to emulate, and features a bunch of cool exploitative quirks. You got to remember that when you glitch the fuck out of other games, it doesn't quite have the same impression as this game. It's the platforming aspect that really makes this game interesting to watch and perform.
