It's what led the series into being about a team of best friends that hunt the crazy people that want to take over the world with the power of biochemistry. That's enough for some people. It also had the worst abuses of "puzzles" and backtracking in the series. Steve goes without saying. On the other hand, the choice to make the game more creepy and weird as we got to know Umbrella could have been interesting if it was handled a little better, such as actually seeing things go to shit. It's a game that might be salvageable if they did an ambitious REmake-style remake where they rewrite many finer points of the game to better sell the premise.
