I'm fucking calling it, Rainbow Six Siege is the most fun I've had in a FPS since F.E.A.R
The community isn't toxic, the game is fun, the guns balanced, lots of people are on the mic and are generally helpful. First year has free DLC (maps and operators) for everyone.

Urban warfare - Judging by the first screenshots it's inevitable that the game will combine fighting in open areas such as streets and markets with entries in different buildings and facilities.

Weaponry - Drastic departure of Croteam's previous work on Serious Sam, weapons in their new title are based and constructed to be as realistic as possible as the current/existing weapons.

The shooting mechanics in this game are fucking fantastic. Only issues it really has is a lack of diversity and a lack of balance. Revolvers are god like and the rifles are pretty much just below them, with the shotguns being pretty much useless for some goddamn reason.

Either way, some of the most fun I've had in a modern shooter. Makes the new Wolfenstien seem boring.

Yeah this. It's Backpedalling +MB1 all the time. Some enemy weapons have hitscans IIRC and almost unavoidable damage, which it could be the only thing you could get out of a formula like this, getting dodges and non stop action with cool moves and shit.

Serious Sam has nothing of that actually. Finisher moves and that's it.

clones die in 3 assault rifle / pistol bullets and 2 minigun bullets
baby arachnoids die with a necksnap or 1 rocket
adult arachnoids die with like 4 rockets but they almost always spawn in places you can take cover so that's a non-issue
technopolyps are annoying yeah only spawn like 7 times in the entire game and they're all at key points where you either have cover or a health / armor buff

these guys exist for the sole purpose of unavoidable damage against uncoordinated players

Yeah, an actual "making of" of SS3 (or hell, SS in general) would be pretty neat.
Once it was a military shooter, then it was partly a Doom concept and another time it was a gritty realistic setting with SS2 assets.

I've only played the first Serious Sam, so I can't comment on the other ones, but that one wasn't a rehash of Doom. Serious Sam's "walk into arena -> arena gets closed off -> enemies spawn and keep on spawning until a set number of them have been killed -> arena opens again" type of design wasn't part of Doom or Doom-like games at all.

SS3:BFE was my 2011's GOTY.
It's a shame that it was completely overshadowed by the year's other, numerous AAA releases (Skyrim, BF3, the year's CoD...)

it's also damn amazing game for having a mere 0.5M $ budget.

nice. SS3 starts choking at about x10 multiplier (2000-5000 enemies per level), and perfomance often dropped well bellow 30fps, when I was testing GTX550ti.

The original's kung fu parody now becomes half-assed racism with Lo Wang being unable to drive properly, Japan and China being one and the same, and a bunch of other lazy azn digs.
The original weapon balance was complete garbage. Quick slice was useless with its huge interrupt and massive cooldown time for little damage. The pistol is overpowered, sluggish, and very necessary until the end. The uzi is a bullet hose that runs out of bullets before it kills anything (even with upgrades). The shotgun is a cotton candy canon on anything other than grunts. Glorious nipponsteel sword is the only weapon that satisfies.
Level design was all over the place and difficulty would whipsaw out of nowhere. A lot of levels had empty slogs and cramped fighting quarters. Explosive fixtures usually were placed in the worst locations for not blowing yourself up. Random ammo pickups threw away any consistency to fights.
Minibosses were more annoying than one with their bullet sponge nature. The ones that can only be hurt from the back just sucked the fun out of everything, especially on max difficulty; no block, no stun, no stamina no nothing, just hope you find something to hide behind when they charge.

The game could have been so good in the right hands.
