You create your own pawn, other players hire them. You hire their main pawns. They aid in fights, and offer monster knowledge/tactics accumulated from other player's worlds. You can review one another's pawn and send gifts.

Bad training. Sit your pawn down at a knowledge chair and always choose 'reticent' for every setting, and they'll shut up for you and whoever hires them.This is doubly-true if the other arisen (the other player) does the same. You can have a party of near silence if they are each trained properly.

You can have 1, 2, 3 or even 0. In fact the game rewards the player more experience for fewer pawns. The assassin vocation grants insane bonus damage if you got it alone.
>Is this game about climbing?
It's about recovering your heart that a Dragon consumed. The game offers monster scaling (giant monsters) and vocations that specialize in such combat such as the strider, or assassin.

The only boring one is mage. Each vocation offers a a great deal of satisfying skills and basic skill-sets depending on preference. It's not about how it 'looks', it's about how it feels. The most fun class? Assassin, in my opinion.

I honestly can't put my finger on what makes the classes fun. This sounds like a bullshit answer, but just try what you usually like.
You can increase it, but you'll still notice some stuff since the environments can be pretty big. Also, you'll see npc's pop in more than anything.
It's not picture-perfect, and a lot of rocks, hills, and such are quite blocky. But the environments and dungeons are still very interesting.
I'm not too far in, but the plot is definitely not the focus; it's more about exploring. At the same time, I still want to know what happens next. People have said that some quests can no longer be done if you advance the main quest past them, so I'm just taking my time exploring and talking to people I want to talk to, and killing shit that I want to kill.

Mage is a supportive class in essence, you spend most of your time healing yourself and your pawn(s) and constantly enchanting you and your pawn's weaponry with elemental enchantments over and over.
The only offensive spells that deal damage can be used by sorcerer, the advanced vocation that mage can go into. Ideally, you want to either make your pawn a mage (or hire another's mage pawn.)

Hot tips for new players:
>Play on hard mode
Difficult within the first hour, made easier with defense augments from warrior vocation (even if you don't want to use them, the main city allows you to change vocation, nab the augment, and carry it over into whatever you want. The idea is, if you play hard mode, you get more exp and an abundant supply of money. Enemies drop bags of 10,000 frequently, allowing you to always stay on top of your equipment and enhancement.
>Check your storage at the inn
Because this is DD:DA, Capcom added a nice bonus in all of our storage. Decent starting armor and 3 very important rings (one for fighter/mage/strider). These rings enhance your skill (the one you start off with) to an ascended power. This makes things nice and smooth at the start.
>Do not sell your materials, ever.
You need materials to enhance armor and weaponry. Instead, put everything you find of this category to storage to save you carrying it around. When you go to enhance an item, the vendor will draw from your storage, so you don't have to withdraw them ever again.
>Tough fight ahead? Save, save save.
If you see an enemy horde or a boss monster on the horizon, hit the menu and 'save and continue'. Should you die, you'll return right before the fight.

Dungeon crawling is made tedious with your lantern extinguished. Normally you need to weight 1 - 2 minutes before it turns back on, you can simply unequip it and re-equip the lantern to light it back--cutting the wait from minutes to seconds.

Once you've reached Gran Soren, the capital. Backtrack to the encampment, where you created your pawn. A pawn from the rift, an old man, will sell elixirs and potions that can only be bought with RC (rift crystals). He sells skin and hair dyes, as well as elixirs that change your pawns inclination (very important part of pawn training) and finally, an item that allows you to re-edit your entire character and pawn.

Capcom will Jew us in the near future, you could literally BUY them for RL money. Instead your best bet is to wait it out, people will hire your pawn and, the longer your pawn is hired/the more enemies it fights in other worlds, the more RC you will get. If you have a friend who is in the late game (where more dangerous monsters are) ask him to hire your pawn. You'll be rolling around in rift crystals soon enough.
And remember, check settings you can turn off shit like:

Right at the start. In the starting village, Cassardis, there is a clothing store ran by an old woman. Purchase Cassardi hosen from her (waist-high french cut brown panties) and Cassardi shift (brown tapered bra/tank top). Go to the vendor in the encampment a short distance from Cassardis, rescue Reynard and meet him there. Purchase the strapped leggings from him.

Perfomance it's smooth as fuck, although outside Gran Soren you're going to notice a slight drop because of the game engine and rendering. Outside of that the loading times are near instant, and after like 50 hours into it I've never had one bug or crash.
Ingame and combat controls are flawless, no mouse lag, no difficult sluggish movement alá Witcher 3 or GTA5, and I have never had a problem targeting enemies. The console-to-PC port has been excellent, and you swtich between Primary and Secondary skills via Ctrl and Alt respectively. It really is smooth as fuck.
Menus and UI are shit, because they haven't adapted it to the PC. Like >>324119414 wrote.

First is the fucking bloom around the lantern and weapon buffs that blinds you. I can't see fucking anything at night. It's worse than having no light at all.
