Half the reason to play Transistor is in the music

This song's apparently exclusive to the Apple TV version though
>>
I've only played a little bit of it so far but the voice coming from the sword is very relaxing.
More attached to him than the protagonist at this point.
I suppose that's to be expected given that she can't talk however. Maybe my opinion will change later. Losing moves when you die is novel though, actually makes you care about fucking up

I really liked Transistor, but thought some elements of the story were a bit too obtuse when compared to Bastion.

I get that ambiguity's sort of the point, but the manner in which they go out of their way to not explain what the Transistor's purpose was grated on me at times.

>>
>>324101189
Red can't save anyone. Even if she remade the city it would be empty because the people cannot be remade with the Transistor. So she opts to join everyone else instead of existing in an empty city. I think; I'm not sure if there is a difference between getting salvaged by the Transistor like all other people or directly dying from it like The Boxer and Red.
>>
>>324101290
I have no idea what you could possibly be implying m8
>>
>>324101582
I think if you were absorbed by the transistor, you ended up inside, which is how red got her powers

the rest of the city were all processed by the process

it's still a bit ambiguous as to what happens though, maybe once the process processed everything then the system restarts and reboots everyone, which is how you get New Game+ where it all repeats
>>
>>324101582
First people Red meets up with after reuniting with her lover are Sybil and the Camerata.

Mildly awkward.

So why did the Camerata want talented people like Red to be absorbed by the Transistor anyway? I think they were using it as a tool to reclaim some kind of status quo for the constantly changing city, but I'm not sure why they needed people like Red to do that.

Just in case anyone missed it, they put out a new song for Transistor semi-recently.

>>324102159
It had something to do with how the Process molded the city, like the sky changing colors after the sky artist got absorbed. and sections of the city changing after the architect was taken.

Sort of like the process was just a brush and they needed artists to wield it.

>>324102159
I think it's because they were trying to make the Transistor a tool to control Cloud City, and Red had demonstrated that her voice was able to command a large amount of respect and stir people to action. You get functions based on characters personality traits and abilities when absorbed, so I'm guessing the Camerata would've been able to unite people toward their own goals by utilizing the charismatic functionality of Red along with the intellect of Royce, Leadership of Grant, etc.
>>
>>324108456
So was it always the Camerata's plan to enter the Transistor, or were they merely using those people to power the Transistor in new ways to affect their work in the real world.

I had like 5 limiters on up until that point. Then I spent like an hour on that fight trying to play keep away from the haircuts while also trying to Cull the Mans and discovered that they're not worth it. So on NG+ I went one at a time to unlock the lore and that was it.
I had the cell duplicator and cell armor limiters and it ended up respawning a Man.

>>324117369
How would leaving town solve anything? The Transistor is needed to stop the Process, so if she just up and left town with it, it would have been literally unstoppable. And she wasn't about to just toss it considering the Boxer was residing in it.

IIRC there was some amount of evacuation effort going on at some point, so presumably some survivors were taken out of the city and made it somewhere else, and its mostly the city thats been completely abandoned.

Of course that could also just be propaganda (like the whole moving to the country thing), since we don't know there even is anything beyond the city limits in a potentially artificial world.
>>
>>324108585
It's better than VATS. VATS is a shitty replacement for bodypart targetting from the original Fallouts. Transistor's TURN actually has you combining a number of seperate abilities that synergize or combo with each other, or significantly alter or set up the combat situation, rather than just being a couple shots in slow-mo. Though arguably you could attribute this to the combat having more depths rather than the system itself.
>>
>>324109645
Coming Home is special because it combined the only two other voiced tracks in the game into one and added even more to it. It also really benefitted from the situation it was used in.

Most of all though, it was the perfect cherry on top after going through the entire game with Ruck's narration of the past until you finally arrive at the Bastion's core.... and he talks to you in the present. And so, for the first time ever, does Zia. And then you hear her sing.
>>
>>324118706
Though on your first playthrough, its mostly just gonna be spamming one attack repeatedly to get the most damage. Its not until you add the enemy modifiers and actually reach the point where you have full customization that you really start to be able to do tactical stuff with it.
>>
>>324118807
I did love how at one point you realize that the whole story is just Rucks telling it to Zia.

So is Rucks the true villain of Bastion?
>>
>>324118863
You must've rushed your first playthrough weirdly then. I was pretty damn stacked by the end.

>>324118924
He was part (or more likely Overseer, without himself being part of the working crew) of the people that created the Cataclysm/Weapon that caused the Cataclysm.

That by itself doesn't make him be at fault, but he clearly feels bad about it, and it makes him ethically/morally wrong for having made it.

If anyone has a direct hand in it, its Zulf, who reacted viciously because of racist behavior against him. None of that absolutes him from his actions though. Free will remains free even if you had a gun to your head, and he's culpable in the whole affair.
>>
>>324119161
Its not like there are that many optional fights in Transistor. Everyone should be finishing the game around the same level.
>>
>>324119161
I thought Rucks was made to help develop the weapon.
>>
>>324119161
>>324119276
Rucks did help develop it, he was a Mancer like Zia's dad.

And he never really owns up to what he does, hes the main proponent of just undoing it all and hoping next time goes better.

I felt more sympathy for Zulf than I did for Rucks.
>>
>>324119276
>>324119404
Yes, he helped develop it, but from what I understood he is of much higher office than your average Mancer, likely oversaw the Wall being built AND had the Bastion, his personal pet project built aswell.

The Cataclysm Bomb was a WMD meant to blow the Terminals (home of the Ura) sky high. So essentially Rucks is Oppenheimer, building the atom bomb.

Except through sabotage, instead of JUST blowing up the Terminals, it affects the entire world. The terminals do indeed get blown into the sky, quite literally, though.

Morals of the story include responsibility as a scientist/engineer, disarmament (if Caelonida hadnt been racist fucks they wouldnt have build it -> there wouldnt have been a weapon to blow up in their faces in the first place), tolerance (obviously, but really nailed by Zulf's treatment and actions), and more in that direction.

The ending especially, with Rucks arguing for Restoration, really brings home his regrets and sorrow.

Meanwhile Zia (and the Kid, if you pick it) are the driving force behind Evacuation and simply going on with your life, since, as Zia said, everything good she can remember happened after the Cataclysm, not before, and you've established a group of people that don't see each other by their race or their past only.

I can't believe how much I had forgotten about this game.
>>
>>324119404
Also I can't quite remember if Zia's father was actually a Mancer.

I think the Mancer is the father of the Caelondian (non-Ura) girl that Zulf is in love with?
>>
>>324120016
He was kinda drafted into the Mancers to work on the bomb after the whole debacle with Zia's asshole boyfriend.
>>
>>324120179
Right. Where he spoke the Ura language to him even though it was highly offensive to do so.

Another pretty good reactionary thing hidden in the game.

Radicalizing is a choice. If someone says a bad word to you, its still your choice how to react to it, and instead of making excuses for radicals that radicalized "because" they were treated badly you should applaud the ones that don't and simply say "doing that would be wrong." But this guy didn't, and there goes the bomb.
>>
>>324120476
Well I think the dad was more upset about the boyfriend setting up Zia to be arrested for trying to leave the city than just speaking the Ura language.

And then the city instead of making things right basically gangpressed him into working on the bomb to keep his daughter out of prison.

Only con of Transistor I can point out is you aren't able to replay much, IE. challenges close after you finish them, autosave after final boss. Also that one limiter overcharging functions after change is a bad design I think, it makes it harder sure but it makes you unable to experiment. You don't have to use it but I wanted to go all 10 as much as I could during NG+.

Really though a great game, after this and Transistor I'm buying their next thing on-release.

>>324118398
He's only easy depending on your loadout, which you'l probably fuck up the first time.
>>
>>324121013
I seem to remember I just unloaded the same attack on him repeatedly, I might have lost like one health bar on him the first time.

I dunno, maybe I just was good at the game, I watched my friend struggle with Cybil which I beat on my first try.

Of course he refused to use planning mode properly. Didn't want to use it as just a damage unloader.

And then he started getting all helpless as he started losing lives. He hasn't gotten past that point.

Shame, he liked Bastion

shit was intense, yo.

I wonder if their next game is gonna be isometric again or if they will branch out

I imagine they'll keep him. Everyone loves the guys voice

I liked Transistor but it was disappointing in some ways.

>more restrictive than Bastion (which is a feat considering how linear Bastion is)
>only three real bosses (two characters that should have been bosses got killed off, probably cut content)
>Man is a lame final enemy
>pretty much impossible to die unless you're awful at the game
>not enough incentive to do NG+

Generally enjoyable game but I couldn't help but think of what could have been.

This is going to be a kind of weird analysis but bear with me.

My interpretation is that the process is representative of a streamlined political system, introduced as an alternative to the effective but stagnant pure democracy that preceded it. But, while technically effective it basically removes any trace of humanity from the system, focusing instead on only results (e.g. politics turning everything into ratings/statistics and ignoring the human cost, while the process reduced everything to factory settings, killing all humans).

This is reinforced by the idea that even the Camerata (the founding party) find the process impossible to control and are either destroyed by it (Sybil, Grant and Asher) or are trying to reform it (Royce), whereas Red with the transistor (literally a collection of human consciousness) rebels, symbolizing the majority.

And in the end once she has control of the system/society, chooses to return to "The Country" (A possible metaphor for an agrarian society) symbolically rejecting both the process and the pure democracy preceding it in favor of genuine human contact with Logan Cunningham's character.

Has Supergiant games talked about doing a new game?
>>
>>324109657
man, I completely missed it then, what exactly did sybil do?
>>
>>324122674
I don't think so. It was a few years after Bastion that they announced Transistor.
>>
>>324122703
She set up Red's lover to be killed by the Camerata so she could have her for herself, but in the process he was absorbed by the transistor and Red escaped with it, kicking the game in motion.

Who is this lively guy
>>
What happened at the end? I doubt I understood all of it right on my first and only playthrough.

Obviously there's a recursion theme taken from Bastion, so I reckoned by stabbing herself with the Transistor Red was basically tunneling into a lower level of the simulation to try and redo things - ad infinitum.

Image search gives the answer immediately, the anon who helped OP should have been berated for spoon-feeding because that is the most basic shit.
But have your discussion, I'm not here to fuck it up.

How are they even financing themselves, doing one game every few years? I mean I love these games but they don't sell that much or are that expensive.
>>
>>324101189
The city is a digital world and not real life
The country is real life
People were afraid because they were nothing in real life
The transistor is literally a transistor
>>
>>324124618
It's a pretty small team (7 people iirc) plus they do a lot of ios re-releases.
>>
>>324124071
I don't think that's the case, the ending scene seems pretty clear that they ended up in either the "real world" or some sort of heaven/purgatory analogue . Bastion's new game plus was implied to be canonically a continuation of a timeline where he chose to restore Caelondia instead of moving on but I don't recall Transistor having that kind of ambiguity.

imagine yourself in Transistors place, though
your girlfriend is about to kill herself with the sword your sentience is tied to
even if you know she'll be able to get into the sword with you, like the rest, she's still breaking herself. she's still dying. and you're the hangman.

One of the games that have been sitting in my steam library collecting digital dust. I swear I'll get to it some day, it looks really nice
