I really hate that video. I work at a place where they train int'l visitors in American LE policy, and they always show this video as an example of why American cops carry guns.
But they don't show any examples of the completely normal interactions cops have with civs every day. And then we send them into a simulator where someone inevitably pulls a gun on them in every scenario. It gives a completely slanted view of what cops have to deal with and their chances of ever encountering this kind of situation. If local training is anything like this, I have no problem understanding why cops are so jumpy and trigger happy.

I think part of the problem is that there are a lot of cops out there that would be better served being anything but cops, and a lot of engineers and psychologists and EMTs/nurses who would do a lot of good if pressed into service.
I dunno. I don't know what the answer is. I started writing a sci-fi story a while ago where we get tired of this shit. So we disband all the police forces in the country. Seemed like a cool idea but I didn't know where to take it after the initial scenario.
