I agree it's some kind of hybrid between a VN and PnC/Adventure, while I say that Ace Attorney, DR or all related games aren't VNs. Some VN elitists disagree with me though.
I fucking finally finished this game last week after meaning to for years since I refused to buy a Vita. I eventually settled and got a PSTV for $30 during christmas.
Now I can finally participate in black bar generals.

>>324087870Yeah she knows, that's why she gives you some password when you're about to die in like 10 minutes and in her ending she says something like "Don't you mean something that happened in another history? Isn't that cheating?"

>>324087870I think Luna knows a lot more than she lets on. She didn't seem phased telling Sigma the computer password in Sigma's Ending.
>>324083327
I'm on the fence if I should play 999. It's only $20 on amazon and the Zero Escape is $30, so I don't see why not. But they're visual novels and while I do really enjoy visual novels they aren't games I get hyped over, unless it was Phoenix Wright.
>>324088000

Jesus Christ, I'd forgotten how godawful the 3DCG looked in VLR.

AA isn't a VN. And 999 is worth it, also Zero Escape is the name of the series, the name of the second game is Virtue's Last Reward. Finally, get the fuck out of here.
>>324088161
Emulate 999 to see if you like it, buy it if you do. Play VLR if you like 999. ezpz, close the thread so you don't get spoiled since that takes most of the fun out of the games
>>324088243
Everybody likes the sprites better, but 3d is cheap and is part of what allowed Uchikoshi to pitch the sequels.

>>324088748
I think so, the common theory is that? is actually the player, who has jumped into the consciousness of K/clone sigma, and Akane is talking directly to the player.

All I can find is this:

I fucking hate people who put videos up like that. It's fucking disgusting. The camera isn't in focus worth a shit.
Even I have recorded better footage of VLR.
>>324089783
There are a few nods to it in Ever 17, but they are fairly minor to the overall story and it's overall not necessary to read beforehand. It's also kind of shit, a fairly standard dating sim-esque VN.
>>324089891
Ever17 then Remember11. honestly they'll probably not be as interesting if you've already played 999 and VLR first.
>>324089846

>>324089891
Read Ever 17, then Remember 11. After that you can read Never 7 if you just absolutely want more Uchikoshi. 12Riven is set in the same universe but doesn't really follow the same threads as the others, and Code 18 is an abomination that should be avoided like the plague.
>>324090079

It's a game made years after the fact, by none of the same people, set in a different universe, and with terrible writing (featuring a high school setting and a second year protagonist like it's a shitty by-the-numbers anime), but with the Infinity label slapped on it for a reason unknown to anybody other than the developers.

Oh yah, I kind of did the same thing on the alice routewhen you can ally or betray Phi. All the other routes I went Ally first then betray after endings or whatever, but this time I decided to go Betray. Ends up working perfectly for the story since Phi remembers that you betrayed and chooses betray herself when you jump back to ally.
>>324087880

>>324092827I know, but I didn't feel like spoilers in that post. I still think that was the smartest use of the dual screens I've ever seen

*gotta grabit jellyfast
My mistake.

What the fuck happened to Clover between 999 and VLR?
In first game she had cute design, and actually helped with some puzzles, and wasn't total idiot.
Then in VLR she's totally shit. Why?

Japan happened
>>324094515
Maybe the trauma of failing that one mission just broke her.
Other interpretations include:
- She's acting stupid.
- Alice is a terrible influence.
- Alice is sucking Clover's intelligence out of her.
>>324094515
trying to be like alice is what I assume. Sort of like she sees her as a role model, so she dresses skimpy and acts like a cunt sometimes
>>324094515
Clover was always a childish idiot. The only thing people seem to remember about her was the axe ending.
I just really like this series and I'm glad it's HOPEFULLY getting a solid ending. I'd rather they start a whole new chapter of the infinity series after Zero Time Dilemma and we get some really solid wrap up, if we don't I'll be bummed out. I think I like VLR better than 999 though, the prisoners dilemma aspect was really fun and there were far less throw away characters.
>>324083327
Clover is really a great girl. She was way better in 999 though.
>>324094843
You are in a very small group along with me that prefers VLR. 999 had some godlike atmosphere, and probably better characters(not by much) but VLR just has so much going for it I feel. ZTD cant come soon enough cause I think its gonna take the best of both worlds and just slam them together for a 10/10 crazy end to the series
I've got a million subjective complaints about VLR, but can we all agree that the route locking system was complete shit?
>tension is high as fuck, plot of route is reaching its climax
>TO BE CONTINUED
>"fuck I really wanted to know what happened, oh well"
>3 playthroughs later, find the key for the route lock
>none of the tension is still there, not really interested anymore, resolution just gives me an "oh, huh" instead of being exciting
Just me? I don't think I've ever seen anyone else complain about this. I hope ZTD's writing is tighter so we don't have to deal with this.

999 had route locking as well.
>>324095160
I mean they do the same thing in 999, albiet once with the coffin end. Whenever I knew a lock unlocked I rushed in pretty excited to see what happened. I will say I fucking binged the game so I was never waiting huge periods of time between hitting a lock and unlocking it most times

999 still had route locking. There is no way to get the true ending on the first try. It requires a minimum of 2 plays to "beat".

>>324098335yet
>>324094067
I really hope they make something in the spirit of this, but not as obvious.
I would've been totally okay with just unlocking the chart manually and having it show me when there's a branch, rather than lay out most of the paths from the beginning and pretty much spoil when Ally or Betray's going to get you a Game Over. Some kind of visual aid but one you have to unlock yourself.
Alice's second betrayal lost some impact when I realized the path ended there, but man did it still manage to make me mad. Alice was definitely the worst character in VLR. Heck, I'm willing to say she was more useless than Lotus.
Here's hoping she doesn't indirectly ruin Clover again if she does appear due to time travel shenanigans.
>>324094435
It's funny how I noticed all the old man comments, but figured that Sigma's hair had a grayish tint to it or something thanks to the box art. Then I saw K's ending and I figured it didn't make any sense, then the ending hit me.
I still don't know how to feel about 999 vs VLR. Dio was refreshing and a lot of things were convenient, but 999's sprites and atmosphere are so much better and felt a lot more grounded in reality. Had me convinced with all those morphogenetic field things and patched sock analogies, while Radical-6 and future space terrorist clones all felt odd in comparison.
>>324098412
Yeah, because it's not like there's another game where she'll likely appear or anything.

I think they were both equally useless, only existing so they can do this one complicated thing, but Alice is somehow more of a bitch. Lotus talks about killing people, Alice actually does. I can't wait for the new slutty-looking bitch in ZTD!

Alice was the first one to give you an idea about Radical-6 so she had SOME plot relevance.

Am I the only one who thought VLR was kinda shitty compared to 999?
Specially all the lock stuff. I know it's lore related, but it really breaks the rythm of the game, trying to progress in a route and having to leave it for like another 3 or 4 routes.
Also 999 was self-contained and tight as fuck, whilst VLR goes allEarth ruined, on the moonstuff,
Although I loved the Radical-6 diaries.
>>324099118
B, because I want to see the world burn. And because probably some other me has chosen AI want to be in the Bad End
>>324099041
Lotus was there to work a computer and get kidnapped. Alice did the complicated calculation needed to crack the code, was the one who actually knew about bombs and could inform everybody about it, and took down Dio before Clover fucked up and let him kill himself.
>>324099431You've still created an infinite number of realities where Uchikoshi lives a short miserable live, never finds happiness and kills himself only so you can play a game a little early, you fucking monster

Thanks. I already whined about this earlier in the thread, but man those locks are lame. Also the 3D models look awful and the characters are overdesigned/just generally look bad.

recently started 999 and it immediately gave me a calculator
am I REALLY going to enjoy this game?
>>324100214
>mobile version adds flowchart
fuck ye
>removes puzzles
nevermind
>>324100214
>ZT3 has more porn than any other character. Shit makes no sense.
Fucking furries man
>>324100314
GET OUT
GET OUT OF THE THREAD FUCKING NOW
>>324100314
yes now get out so you don't get spoiled
the math isn't that intense at all
>>324100314
Nice meme. Get out of this thread.
>>324100341
Didn't it also add a bad ending? I still have yet to "play" it.
>>324100287
I've played the game three times, and each time I go through the Zero Jr. shit in each route ASAP so I never have to hear him again. JP voices too, he's still so fucking annoying.
>>324100274WHO NEEDS ZERO ESCAPE WHEN YOU HAVE FAMILY FISHING
>>324083327
I knew she was going to fuck off and escape if I did that but fuck me it was like the 5th route I was doing and I wanted to see if she'd actually do it.
>>324100314
You barely have to use it. Does a little bit of possible maths turn you off of a game that badly?
>>324100314
Yeah. You don't even need the calculator. It's there for retards who can't do basic addition.
>>324100441
It has a syringe ending if you go through the #3 door I believe
>>324100314
Calculator isn't used all that much, and even then it's mostly simple number stuff. Also avoid these threadsand /v/ just to be safelike the plague until you're done with both games to avoid spoilers.
>>324100450
This meme is a little too spicy for me
>>324100520
and people who don't want to deal with that base-16 crap
i love 999 but crackers uchikoshi i'm not a fucking mathamatician, i doubt more than 1% of people who plaid the game understood that
>>324099541
I don't know how to feel about the locks.
999 only had the one lock, which was to the true ending. VLR was all about the locks, which kind of makes sense, but I agree about the pacing. Went through the Luna route, got stopped at the password, then came back after doing every other route and completely forgot all the small things that happened, I didn't even remember that they met G-OLM in that path (also how have people not found out who voiced G-OLM yet? It drives me nuts), and trying to keep track of who's alive and who's dead was just wait until they shown a flashback of a corpse.
Yet, going through that entire route first would spoil everything, so the lock makes sense. Fastforward would be too obnoxious, but maybe some kind of better summary system when you jump. It's tricky. So glad I chose Luna as my partner from the very beginning, it paid off more than I imagined it would.
>>324100682
>base 16 was confusing
How even? Also,
>plaid
I think you might just be dumb.
>>324100682
I had my brother do 3 of the 999 puzzles for me
his reaction every time was "what is this fucking anime crap" before solving them in like 5 seconds
>>324100682
>and people who don't want to deal with that base-16 crap
but any integer base is easy.
I will say I've never even heard about digital roots until I played 999. Haven't heard of their use outside of ZE.
>>324100682
what
Hexadecimal is easy man, I knew what it was way before I played the game
>>324100341
Terribly optimized port as well, bought it as soon as it launched and it was 2.5 GB
>>324100441
Yeah,in the case when you fuck over Clover and go through Door 3, leaving her behind, she thinks you`re Zero and killed Snake, so she injects you with a syringe and tosses you into the flooded staircase
>>324100562
Yeah, that's what I heard. One day I'll play the iOS version, maybe.
>>324088161
Get both. They're great games. They are kinda like Phoenix Wright but with adventuring rooms/figuring out puzzles in the rooms
>tfw uses the chart to choose which paths I'd do 1st
>started with shortest path and worked my way up to the longest
>tfw felt like the perfect order
>>324098789
>>324098917
She was also the first who sat down in that creepy chair on the shark room.
>>324100945
>Yeah
That sounds like it would play out coolly. I just haven't given enough of a damn to play the iOS version.
>>324100864
This.
I don't know if he just made up that shit or they have any use.
To late to google the answer now that I hit the post button
>>324087074
I dont get this ending, because it implies that they were infected with radical-6 THAT MAkes them suicidal but weren't they all already infected by radical-6 in the other timelines, in which they ended up fine?
Wait, in 999 when you get the Submarine ending, who is the one thatkills everyone including you?Assuming everyone actually died and no one was playing dead
>>324101039
That's because Seven wouldn't fit and Junpei is the protagonist, so he's out of the question. I really liked Lotus though. She played her part well.
>>324099637
>3D Models
Is my memory tricking me or was this stance used in pretty non fitting moments?
>>324100575
>tfw learning this the hard way
Well, at least the only things that got spoiled wereLuna's death, the truth about Sigma's armsand the fact that you're actually on the moon.I was expecting the last one, anyway
>>324101242
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_root
I guess it's used for checksums according to this, don't know about any other uses
>>324094067
Some more endings that aren't just a door closing would be nice. Maybe a variation of all the times you decide to betray and screw yourself over too.
>>324101375
>assuming everyone actually died
But that's not the case. Ace was playing dead and killed you.
>>324101375
Ace. I can't remember exactly but you don't check if he's dead when you find his body and Lotus's body is missing her watch (which he could use to escape with the 0 watch he got from the captain's room).
>>324101375
Ace
>>324101375Someone was merely pretending keep playing, it'll be obvious who was eventually
>>324100287
What were they thinking when they created Jr.?
Was danganronpa popularity so high that they had to do a Monokuma of their own?
>>324101375
Theories range from Ace doing it and playing dead or the Captain waking up and going on a rampage
I say it's Ace
>>324101561
>>324101375It's Ace. He played dead like you suspected. He's in for a fucking surprise when he uses that submarine.
>>324100314
Leave now if you care abour spoilers
>>324101460
Lucky you, I got spoiled on Tenmyouji.
>>324101614
Answered your own question
>>324101460
I can tell you that one of those spoilers is wrong if that makes you feel better.
>>324100993
basically going from left to right I had no problems with pacing. most locks for me were unlocked relatively fast
>>324101740
>tfw predicted Tenmyouji before the reveal
And my mind was still blown. I don't know why, but this was the biggest twist for me.
I finally got to play VLR few weeks ago and recently finished it. The best thing about this game is writing. There are no major inconsistencies or plot holes, every little detail is important for a plot and each ending is a mindfuck leading to major mindfuck which is a true ending. But when you think about it, everything tied together and makes total sense in the game's universe, it never breaks it's own rules. I wish we had more games as well-written as Zero Escape series. Can't wait for ZTD now.
>>324101561
>that goblin in clover's clothes
>>324101242
Well apart from a few links like Wikipedia (>>324101506), I have never *really* seen them used. Shit, even Wikipedia doesn't talk about the history of DR.
>>324086834
Hey man there's infinite timelines so if you think about it he's actually banged her and infUnite amount
>>324101561Thick Akane is kinda cute
>>324101395
Her mouth is what really irritates me.
She's smiling no matter what, she could be saying or whatever the mood is.
>>324101567
>>324101592
>>324101594
Makes sense, I figured someone must have been actually alive, but I thought I remembered Junpei seeing Santa, Ace, and someone else on the stairs and didn't bother checking any of their bodies and just ran to the Sub room.
Was it actually revealed or explained as Ace? I don't remember reading anything about it, even with getting all the endings.
Maybe I'm just fucked in the head and my memory is shit.
>>324101740
I guessed about Tenmyoujiafter he got super sad about the dead woman. Also guessed that she would be Akane, so got lucky on two fronts there
Which ending felt the most hopeless or discouraging in your opinion?
I still vote for Submarine ending or Clover's ending in VLR.
>>324086140
If you do them in the right order, Sigma has a reaction like you did.
How do you feel knowing Japanese gamers don't give any fucks about Zero Escape series?
They know Uchikoshi is a one-trick pony.
>>324083327
I still haven't finished 999 or VLR but I came here to post this.
>>324101348
You might not like this answer butrad 6 just overtook them in that timeline. Remember, everyone was affected. Only in 2 timelines does Sigma show symptoms of Rad 6 (Clover and Luna Endings)
>>324101909
A mixture of Lotus' bracelet missing and some other shit learned in other paths makes it clear that it's Ace.
>>324101740
Shit.Realizing that Tenmy was Junpei when you find Akane's photo hit me like a truck
>>324101745
Which one?
>>324101970
Why would I care about what people with shit taste think?
