Does this game not autosave? I just got killed out of the blue by some bandits and lost the last half an hour of the game.
The map seems convoluted too, I took some side quests from a notice board but the map is unable to show me where the objectives are.
I'm enjoying the combat a lot, but stupid details like that make it really annoying and inaproachable.

Went up a path where some bandits tried to Indiana Jones me and when i got up there to fight them there was one fucking bandit that refused to take any damage what so ever. All the other bandits were pretty easy to kill just not this one.
There was nothing special about him he just took no damage and killed me in 2 hits.
I figured i would skip him and come back to save my fisherman waifu alter but after i did the escort quest it said i could no longer complete the quest.

If you went through the game without using the Inn (which is very possible when items like Legion's Might exist) then it is very possible your pawn isn't even in the system yet.

That's the rub. If you don't want to level up while leveling the vocation, you'll need to pay attention to your experience values while out grinding, and once you get close, switch back to the vocation you want to level up in.
However, it's not that big of a deal if you get a few levels in any of the classes. Augments and gear matter more than levels anyway.

How to Dragon Dogma early game.
Play on Hard mode. It will rain gold and you will get extra exp. Dealing with Goblins 1-hit kills will teach you to git gud and won't last long anyway. Believe you can leave hard mode at any time.
Optional but bonus points if pawn is the same class as you so it can learn from you and not other pawns.
If you are starting to have issues are your pawns the same level as you? If not replace them, Rook is a nice guy but ultimately shit as he is stuck at level 6. Go for player pawns as they are smarter.
Buy equipment for you and if you are having a real bad time for your pawns as well. Any extra items will be transfer to your storage once you lose the pawns.
Which is good because it is assuming that you will change classes a lot and often. Unlock and use the passive perks as you get them. Try a little of everything.

Giving them commands like "Go!" gives points to Scather ( I think). There are knowledge chairs in the pawn guild/inn, you can use those to change your pawns inclination.
But the best/easiest way is to buy potion in the camp. There is one that completely resets your pawn and other potions which give your pawn inclinations. The NPC is in the room with the riftportal.
You need RC for those though

that's all I wanted, and I got it. Not I can fucking hit a flying bird with my short bow in one shot, I can actually aim at the cyclops eyes, and with some clever remapping, I'm perfectly fine with the keyboard controls

You can go solo and there is even a skill that give you a power boost for doing such. Just need to toss your main pawn off of a cliff though. No punishment for doing such so no worries.
