/v/ how would you compare this gen to older gens?
>>
7 multiplats
>>
>>324064175
too many games with empty promises
too many games that are too similar to a game from a previous gen or even the same gen
>>
>>324064175
incredibly slow start, even early 7th gen had a lot of great games. it will be interesting to see how long this gen will last. personally, i think it will be at least 7 years
>>
>>324064175
Pretty shit. Big budget games have had their budgets for not game related shit like advertising, executive bonuses and voice acting balloon, causing the budget for actual game development to suffer. Small budget games are more prevalent than ever due to how easy it is to publish a cheap indy game. The end result is the middle-budget game is no longer profitable because they have neither the mass appeal of a AAA game nor the disposability of the indy and mobile markets. This trend will continue until the AAA market collapses completely.
>>
>>324065413
ehh i give 2 to 3 more years the most
>>
>>324065723
>This trend will continue until the AAA market collapses completely.

hopefully soon, i want another gen 6
>>
Someone post the upcoming PS4 games image
>>
>>324064175

Almost the same.

Shit games, over hyped game and goods game.

every single gen.

>FFX
>GT3
>GTA 3
>dark cloud year before

2000/2001 was fucking based
>twisted metal black

i was still playing SNES/N64 until 2004 when i saved up to get a PS2
>>
>>324064175
i feel like it was hindered a lot because of the fact that 7th gen lasted for so long

>tfw if the world economy didnt shit itself we would be already on 9th gen
>>
>>324065723
>This trend will continue until the AAA market collapses completely.

the question is if that will happen this gen or next gen?
>>
>>324064175
According to how shit posters judge these things today half of those games would be discounted for being timed exclusives.

Nice shit list OP
>>
>>324066145
i feel like people are slowly starting to catch on that most AAA games are shit, maybe in the tail end of this gen
>>
>>324065817
We won't get another gen 6. Once the AAA market collapses the vast majority of the market will be the cheap, disposable indy and mobile games. From a consumer standpoint, why bother buying a console for $300-$400 and games for $60 each when you can just play games on your phone and/or tablet for $1-$5 each. That's the direction games are going in. There will be a niche gamer market that will provide some demand for middle-budget games, but I doubt we'll ever see a healthy console market again. At most we'll go back to the days of gen 3 and 4 where the gamer market consists of 1 or 2 consoles plus PC, and even then the quality of those gens simply won't be there to a large degree due to so much focus ending up in the mobile market.
>>
>>324066180
something something multiplat
>>
>>324066127
why DID last gen last longer than usual?
>>
where that Nintendrone who claims the PS2 was more casual than the Wii
>>
>>324064175

PS4 apprears POS to older gens.

PC at PS2's time were god-tier. Too many excellent games to list.
>>
>>324066381
the financial crisis of 2008, wasnt really a good idea to release new $400 consoles two years after people getting laid off, evicted from homes, etc.
>>
>>324066326
this and yeah after this gen or maybe after the gen after that it will just be sony and nintendo since it seems like microsoft is already backing out of the console space
>>
mark my words this is the last gen of consoles, maybe nintendo will continue but this will be the last

>>
>>324066730
care to explain why?
>>
>>324066932
this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVNSa0mSlME
and what >>324066326 said basically sums it up
>>
>>324066932
it's not too crazy to think that
consoles and games are costing too much to develop and the price would skyrocket so much that most AAA would just call quits
>>
>>324066790
360 for me
>>
>>324066790
well, last console I bought was a 3DS with an R4, before that was a PS2
hot damn all these good games
>>
>>324066709
>implying sony is still a company at that point
>>
>>324066790
I bought a PS3 in 2012 but barely touched it. I always end up going back to 4th-6th gen when I'm looking for new vidya.
>>
>>324066932
Making games with the graphical standards of the current generation seems next to impossible already.
Big budget games are coming out very rarely now, there is very little room for experimentation since the game just has to sell, and it's becoming more and more common to break the game into separately sold pieces to make up for the huge losses that producing competetive graphics cause
>>
>>324066326
>>324067218
>Once the AAA market collapses

Stopped reading there, kill yourself deluded fools
>>
>>324067543
true but couldn't sony spin off the playstation brand into its own company or sell it off to another company like apple
>>
>>324066326
The mobile bubble has already burst, and there are more and more indie games that aren't "cheap and disposable".
AAA is on its way out, but that should matter only to casuals
>>
>>324067780
edgy
>>
>>324067958
Don't reply to me unless you are contributing the discussion

K thx
>>
>>324067940
>The mobile bubble has already burst
False, all that's happened is it's become more diversified.
>>
>>324066425
ps2 was the last good gen...when online shooters became big it was really the fall of gaming
>>
>>324066790

ps2 to ps3, own a 3ds now that i barely ever touch. Pc too strong
>>
>>324067793
pretty sure they are slowly selling of their assets
>>
>>324068123
Half of mobile games make next to no money nowadays, and even the few big names (like Candy Crush Saga) are plummeting
>>
>>324068680
Yeah, which doesn't mean the mobile market as a whole isn't making money. It's just being spread across a huge number of games. The number of mobile developers will shrink, but the total market share of mobile vs. bigger budget games will continue to increase. Mobile is basically going through what consoles went through 30-35 years ago in terms of overabundance of supply, but unlike consoles the market as a whole won't drastically crash because there are no dedicated mobile games, people play them on the phone/tablet that they'll always keep using.
>>
>>324068680
na mobile is going to continue to strive
>>
>>324066180
>Kamen Rider Battleride war listed
>When it will come out for ps3 as well
>In japanese only
>>
>>324069163
You might be right, I haven't done any actual research into this.
If we don't talk about money, there still isn't a single mobile game I would say is a must-have, or at least one without a better version on other platforms, and I've made effort to dig deep into App Store.
The non-standardized specs and controls are huge hurdles for developers, as is the complete devaluation of games due to the average price points.
I really doubt mobile will become a significant platform for anyone actually interested in video games any time soon, and the money flowing in the mobile market is not from that audience
>>
>>324070180
>there still isn't a single mobile game I would say is a must-have
That's the thing though, there never will be. The constantly large supply will mean people can just pick up some cheap game, beat it, and then throw it away for another one. There will be the occasional game that manages to get really popular and generate billions of dollars in sales on its own, but they'll be fewer and farther between.
>>
>>324070651

Right, but there's still a large audience of enthusiasts that aren't interested in those games. Enough to hold a market, just like it did before

I don't believe mobile games have the same market share as standard games. Not the same demographic at all
>>
>>324064175
It's shit. As soon as PS2 is /vr/ I'm outta here.
>>
>>324066180
Looking forward to P5, Digimon, and Danganronpa
I hope the next Tales and Star Ocean will be good.
>>
>>324066180
I'm looking forward to Uncharted 4, Persona 5, Dragon Quest XI and especially Nier: Automata.
I'm also somewhat interested in Wild and Rime.
But that's it, and that's really bad compared to PS2, which had classics releasing almost every month, sometimes multiple back to back
>>
>>324072637
>Dragon Quest XI
it'll be cool if SE decides to localize it
>>
>>324065413
>>324065758
i'm also around 3 to 4 years at most, this gen is klidna sucking right now.
