I'm building my first gaming PC soon and I need a new keyboard for it.

Whats the verdict on this one? (Razer BlackWidow Ultimate 2016).

Theres a deal happening where everything on the razer store is 50% off so this will only be £50 ($72). Good price?
>>
>>324042379
What does it have that a normal keyboard doesn't?

If it fits your budget, go on, but otherwise just get a better graphics card and buy a cheaper mechanical keyboard.

Seriously, the most expensive in a gaming PC should be a graphics card (possibly a processor, but that's up to you.)

Seriously, 72$ for a keyboard, dude.
>>
Razer products are crap. They're the Alienware of peripherals, as in they sell overpriced low quality gear on name alone.
>>
>>324042808

Mechanical switches.
>>
>>324042808
>Seriously, 72$ for a keyboard, dude

You would be surprised.
>>
>>324042379
I own this kb. It's pretty good, but keep in mind these things have crazy failure rates.
>>
Gaming keyboards and mice are trash. Don't buy into the hype you're paying a ton of money for no difference at all and some LEDs.

Get a regular keyboard
>>
The only thing to buy razer is either the blackwidow or deathadder.

I have that keyboard and am happy with it. Have had it for 3 years.
>>
>>324042969

>gaming keyboards are trash

I agree.

>get a regular keyboard

I can't stand rubber domes (aside from IBMs and QSenns), got a mech and can never go back.
>>
>>324042905
>Mechanical switches.
Does it really matter?
>>
>>324042913
Well I know there are fucking expensive keyboards out there, but I'd do that in the second leap.

>bought a gamng PC for 500$, self-built
>upgraded motherboard after 2 weeks
>upgraded mouse after a month

Granted, I'm not a die-hard professional gamer, but I'm an enthusiast. Doesn't make me want this one. What does it have?

Ducky shine 5 unless you're a pleb of course, then any thing will do.
>>
>>324043098

Yes.
>>
>>324043015
But is it worth it? Does it do something a 20$ keyboard won't?

Can it at least turn off those fucking lights?
>>
got the original blackwidow with the blue switches. can't register fast simultaneous keystrokes. trashed it and bought a filco.

maybe you have better luck but i doubt it with razer.
>>
>>324043184
Do you mind explaining why?
>>
Razer keyboards suck ass, enjoy your keeeyys rrrrepeatttting wiiittthh no wayyy to fixxxx them
>>
>>324043350

Razer isn't.

But any decent mech keyboard is - there's ones without LEDs and such, just normal keyboards with mech switches.
>>
>>324042379
If you want the opinions of kids born 97-99 who parrot everything reddit says: Ask /v/.

If you want actually good opinions: Ask /g/
>>
>>324043350

Well yes, its mechanical.

Yes you can turn off the lights
>>
>>324043440

Better response time and typing than rubber domes.

Also more durable - I got a mech after the enter key broke on my old logitech one, can't ever go back to rubber domes now.

If you want to see the difference - there's tester kits you can try for like $5 - if you like it they take it off the mechs if it's the same brand.
>>
>>324043601
I thought this type of thread wasnt allowed on /g/? I'll post it there though.
>>
>>324043487
I got a normal mech keyboard. CZTech (small local company, I think). It's fucking great.

>>324043629
I thought mechanical meant the way the buttons work. But OK, that's good.

>LEDs on a keyboard

If you can't touchtype without ever looking at your keyboard you are a complete pleb.

And no they do not look good at all unless you have the taste of a 6 year old who has flashing lights in the heels of his shoes.
>>
just get a 6gv2, it's GOAT
>>
>>324043851
Im more interested in the keyboard itself, not the lights. The version without lights is only £5 cheaper anyway.
>>
Serious question time. How good are Razer products actually? Yeah they look ricey as fuck, and people always shit on them for that and the MLG PRO NO SCOPE 360 image that they seem to carry, but rarely does anyone talk about how they're actually as peripherals. I mean, the price has to imply some sort of quality that's above the average office peripherals, right? Or is it all just rice tax?
>>
>>324043732
Not him but you should ask /mkg/ on /g/

The general consensus is Razer a shit because they use cheaper switches (I forget what they're called) but still have high prices

It IS a good keyboard but It's always best to consult the masters of mechanical at /mkg/
>>
>>324043826

Well that's what I was getting at then, mechanicals are great.

Mechanical = the switches used in the buttons.
>>
>>324042905
Shitty mechanical switches.

Rule of anon. Cherry switches or Topre. Nothing else.
>>
>>324044007

Deathadder is a decent mouse.

Regarding the Blackwidow - you can get much better keyboards for less.
>>
>>>/g/52432797
>>
>>324044190

I'm talking about Cherry switches - I'm not referring to the Razer one.

I personally use a Func keyboard with MX-Reds which I got for £50.

i bought a daskeyboard ultimate 4
i have slight regret and wish I would've spent $40 less, but the keyboard is great.

do you need a coupon? because I also need a new keyboard and mouse
>>
>>324044076
OK. Then my laptop has shitty mushy keys and my gaming rig has mechanical master race.
>>

I agree - I got a rip-off version of it and it is still excellent.

that looks lovely, although we have diacritics in my country, and that is a little bit of a bitch.

+ěščřžýáíé this is my 1 to 0 on top of the keyboard.
>>
>buying a memeboard

For gaming and general office work just get a Logitech mate. Don't listen to these MUH MECH MUH SWITCHES faglords.
>>
>>324043178
I really, really, really like this image. Would you mind terribly if I were to save it? I promise only to use it as my wallpapre if that helps.

Try Cooler Master or Corsair maybe?
>>
>>324044824

I would agree, but then I had a logitech break on me.

Can't go back now, rubber domes a shit.

My only complaint is you either have to use the obnoxious LEDs or you can't see the keys even in moderate light.

(Brown switch master race)
>>
>>324044228
What about other Razer shit? The headphones? The other mice and keyboards?

Also, is it possible to get a mech keyboard that doesn't sound like a 1950s typewriter when I'm playing.
>>
>>324044365
>blank keyboards
What's the point? I mean, literally, what benefit do you get from the keys not having symbols on them? And no, being able to tell your friends about how much of a special snowflake 1337 haxxxor you are isn't a benefit, it just makes you look like a complete sperg.
>>
>>324046146
>that doesn't sound like a 1950s typewriter when I'm playing.

if you want to have a less clicky keyboard get brown or black swtiches. blues are noisy.
>>
>>324046146

Headphones are shit.

Other mice depends on the models, keyboards are shit.

Mechs will be loud, there's no avoiding it - but if you want the 'quietest' either get MX Browns or MX Reds (do not bottom out on these), then fit them with O-rings (make them quieter).

Blues are the loudest, and probably what you are thinking of when you said 1950s Typewriter.

I have MX-Reds myself, they're not too loud.
>>
>>324046018
No filcos were just a generic cherry brand. There have been dozens of clones before and after it.
>>

question to the mech keyboard experts

are buckling spring keyboards like the unicomp worth it?
>>

Because it looks really well and I'm too lazy to scratch off my keys. It looks good. And it doesn't look as bad if you paint some of the keys another colour (e.g. WASD)

>>324047146
This guy gets it. It looks nice. But I still wouldn't pay 60$ for it.
>>
>>324043098
If you are fine with a rubber dome keyboard then it really doesn't. I have had a 15 dollar logitech keyboard for almost 5 years now and I still enjoy typing with this and I can type 130 wbm. I think the only problem that I have had was in DayZ when I couldn't press certain buttons simultaneously but that could be a problem with more high end keyboard too.

>>

No it's not. I have the same keyboard (pic coming) and it's fucking great. Just because you think your default HP keyboard works fine doesn't mean that other products are shit.
