There is absolutely nothing wrong using a gaming headset.
Impressionable pseudoaudiophile faggots trying to be their favourite youtuber/streamer will post their garbage in threads about how their setup is "better".
By "better", they mean own mid-range headphones plugged directly into the motherboard that are designed for music with way too much bass that completely muddies all the detail in audio in games.
Not only that, but you're fucking gimping yourself by not having mic connected to your headset. I've literally seen these shitters suggest using a modmic or clipping some shit to your clothes and having two cables get into a big mess.
Then they're telling you to get a desk mic. Oh fuck are these people retarded. Unless you're doing some professional work, you do not need a fucking desk mic and you're introducing problems for no reason
>Mic needs to be positioned correctly
>In some cases in front of your face
>Moving your head fucks with volume
>Typing or hitting the desk in any way (Moving mouse / putting cup down) causes thudding
>Unless you invest in extra anti-vibration equipment
Even after all this trash, you're only going to be talking on teamspeak / in-game, which have shitty codecs anyway. Even CS/DotA codecs are garbage considering the investment.

Honestly, if you have a desk mic / pseudoaudiophile headphones, drink everything under the sink.

I've never seen people suggesting beats headphones, most people recommend open headphones.
>>
>>324028091

Double space between a greentext line and a normal line.
>>
I never understood it frankly. I'm not much of an audiophile, but I am a studio engineer with a good ear and I never understood the obsession videogame audio fidelity.
>>
gaming headsets are overpriced pieces of junk. they try to do 2 jobs in one and end up doing both jobs poorly or a really good job with sound, then a shit job on mic and vice versa.

better off getting a separate mic so people can actually hear your real voice.
>>
Any kind of peripheral with the prefix "gaming" on its name is inherently a turd and a scam.
>>
>>324027278
>I'm a proud gamer with gamer headsets and gaming mic, don't take me for granted! :)
As someone who works with professional mics and headphones, I got very triggered by this bait.
>>
>>324028768
I agree that there's no point obsessing over audio fidelity in videogames, but there is with music, and you might as well use the same headphones for both. No point getting a gaming headset if you already have good cans, and no point getting one to use for both because it'll sound like shit.
>>
>>324028768
Gaming headsets are overpriced and break all the time, I don't even use the mic, why would I buy a gaming headset?

Its the same thought process that gamepads must be better because they are designed for games.
>>
>>324028905
Gaming mice are alright though.
>>
So is anyone going to recommend a decent set of headphones or just continue flinging your semen covered shit
>>
>>324029232
It depends on how much you want to spend, and how you intend on using them. Audio equipment doesn't have a stand out 'best option' for anything.
>>
>>324029447
Alright lets say 70-100 dollars
>>
I have some good open-ended headphones. What's a mic I can just tape onto them or something, I started using Discord.
>>
>>324029186

You never need more than two buttons and a wheel.
>>
I use ath-ad700s (only thing lacking is bass due to being open-ear) and an ATAT20 condenser in a proper mic stand with pop filter that I also use to record singing.

You clearly have never owned a mouse with 2 side buttons. They're useful as fuck. Especially for shit like push to talk or very important hotkeys.
>>
The only acceptable gaming hear you should have is a keyboard and maybe a mouse if you play a ton of games that require a lot of short cuts.

Anything else is literally autism tier. Get yourself a headset designed for music and a separate table mic instead of a shitty meme Gaymer headset.
>>
>>324029510
Thumb buttons are really useful for switching tabs in your browser.
>>
100-200 dollars range is the best price range for consumer grade headphones.
Anything above is diminishing returns or just plain memes.
Grab a nice pair of open back headphones for gayming, closed back with strong bass for street use and you're set. About 400$ worth of audio equipment but you basically reached the endgame.
I personally own a pair of AKG K550's for gayming and Sennheiser HD 7 DJ for portable and bedtime use for maximum comfy.
>>
>>324028328
Putting spaces between sentences predates reddit.

In fact, it predates HTTP websites.

I'm old enough to remember dialing into BBSes where posting with separated lines was NORMAL because the screen resolution was low, and it made it way easier to read.

But you wouldn't know that, because you were born after 1993, and probably grew up in an internet with web pages.

>>324030451

>>
>>324029061
This. The difference between good and mediocre headphones isn't really that pronounced in games as in music, but because I have HD600's for music usage why on earth I wouldn't enjoy them with vidya too?
>>
>>324030073
I want to buy a pair myself but I'm a noob at this. What should I look for in headphones used for gaming and what for ones used for music?
>>
>>324030583
It's a huge complicated mess and a lot of people will suggest you different things based on which company pays them to shill or their own personal preferences.
Look for buying guides on the /g/ wiki and search every pair on Amazon until you find one for a decent price.
If you want hedphones for videogames open back are better, unless you game in a noisy environment (i.e still live with your parents) a closed back is a must. The AKG K550/553 sound fucking great for a closed pair which makes them great for gaming imo desu senpai
basically just fucking google because nobody can give you straight answer
>>
>>324030583
>headphones used for gaming

Big sound stage, so open.

Open headphones are great for music too, get closed headphones if you use public transportation or share the room with someone as they leak sound.

"Gaming" headsets are needlessly expensive and are made to break fast. When i was a little underage shit 10 years ago i used to buy these things, only to burn through 5 of them in 2 years. Then i got a seperate mic for TWO bucks off of ebay and headphones which are way cheaper for the same features. I only had to replace my headphones once and im still using the same mic, which works perfectly.
>>
>>324027278
midrange headphones and a cheap microphone are better quality than a "gaming" headset

kinda like how my 35 dollar Sennheiser earbuds outperform 90% of Beats by Dre shit

"gaming headsets" are 100% marketing and no quality
>>
>>324034392
>"Gaming" headsets are needlessly expensive
Not true
>are made to break fast
Yeah, companies intentionally design their products to break, that goes over great with customers.
>Then i got a seperate mic for TWO bucks
So you're that guy with the garbage mic in pubs that pics up and magnifies every sound in your room
>headphones which are way cheaper for the same features
Same features? You're missing a mic. All headsets play sound.

Rebranded Takstar Pro 80 with the complimentary gaymer gear tax
A nice pair of headphones but that's because they were not designed for gaming like Turtle Beach and shit. They just took an existing pair of headphones and painted it black and red to appeal to the 15 years old.
>>
>>324035027
>midrange headphones and a cheap microphone are better quality than a "gaming" headset
Making others put up with your shit microphone is fucking retarded. Midrange headphones like Sennheiser 598's are £130. There are £40 gaming headsets that sound fine. Gaming headsets that are over £100 are on-par with mid-range headphones. It's a meme that they sound "better". Unless you're an audiophile, mid-range is more than enough

I bought a PDP Afterglow headset for the PS4. Its wireless and its fucking up my WiFi real bad, I read that turning off the WiFi and turning it back on after a couple of minutes would allow it to recognize the headsets's frequency to stop the interference, but it only works very temporarily for me.

Has anyone dealt with this before?
