In the rare event I buy a physical PC game I usually just download a pirate/drm free version of it and burn it on to a disc to put in the case along with the drm version.

You use portcrystals and ferrystones for quick travel, you must first purchase them though. Ferrystones are unlimited, portcrystals are limited but I think you can copy them in Gran Soren, not entirely sure though

DD is a little closer to Monster Hunter than open world RPG's. The depth is in the character and battle systems.

There's GOG, but many games are only on Steam so you are literally forced to aquire a cracked copy if you want to be independent from the interent and third party software that acts as DRM.
