I only became interested due to hearing you could put badges on your folders since I have a fuck ton of folders and they all blend together when you can only tell them apart at a glance by a single letter or number. nintendo are so well versed in the art of manipulation that they can actually get people to pay money for jpegs (or just the chance of earning them, rather) by wrapping it up in a game with a cute rabbit
Everything down to the practice catcher giving you a taste of how the game works and the scene layouts being specially designed to dick you over and require the most crane uses possible (those hook badges are especially dickish since they require one use each but also usually require you to clear the junk above them first). They've nailed the perfect balance of being rewarding enough for casual non payers without letting them get everything, and also being just not enough free stuff to tip the 1% over into dishing out money
I almost can't help but respect the amount of effort that's gone into making it as manipulative as possible

I have no idea what they are going to do with amiibo. Actually what they wanted it for is for people to only buy your favorite so it gives something extra. Like if you enjoy Kirby games you would get a Kirby amiibo which would give you a Kirby skin in Mario Kart. It wasn't really meant to be lock out content. Actually to build on what I was saying that is why there was a shortage. NoA just felt people would only buy their character. So smaller known characters (Shulk, FE characters, ect) had less made. And making them in bulk takes time. Plus they must have had agreements with GameStop and others which only stopped recently. Which is why you can basically find what you want now.

Amiibos are really tricky, I like that they act like a season pass and with a single amiibo you unlock content in a lot of games, but not every character is like this and this is a problem

That's not really good bacause people can lend amiibos to each other and they lose DLC sales with that, unless you're talking about getting the DLC code with the amiibo's purchase, but they've been releasing the DLC way earlier than the amiibos, so it's not possible now

As I said Nintendo first thought was people just buying the amiibo of their favorite character. And if it unlocks something fun for them (something small like a costume) it will be fun for you. It was never really made to be meaningful. The problem right now is that amiibo has gotten way more popular than Nintendo wanted it and it actually now fucks with their plans. They are now walking on a tightrope on what to do. I actually have no idea what they will do but I do trust them that they won't go full EA and lock important stuff behind it. Seem TP HD wolf Link will have a bonus dungeon which might be the most they will really go for. I think maybe a good middle ground will be if you have the amiibo you get it for free but if you don't you can pay $2 and unlock it. Not really ideal but I feel it will settle a lot of people complaining about people not allowed to play locked content without the amiibo.

I think Nintendo is just trying random things and seeing what works and what doesn't. But never to a level people really has any strong reactions too. So they can do one thing and if people doesn't like how it was handled it was never at level that caused a giant uproar. We might see more of those amiibo cards or we might see something else.
Like how one of Nintendo's first jump into Season Pass was Mario Golf but they also lowered the actual game by $5 so buying more content seem like not a bigger deal.
