I just want to know the differences between the PS3 and PS4 releases. I don't want to buy a new system when I can play a comparable version on one I already own. I think as long as it "works" on PS3 (no major slowdown, blurriness, or bugs) I'll be fine.

Negotiation isn't a shit mechanic. It simply has inconsistent execution. Soul Hackers has good negotiation. Nocturne has terrible negotiation. Most games are somewhere in-between.
When people say they hated negotiation in Persona 1 and 2, what they really tend to mean is they hated the way the fusion system was built around spell cards.

There was no fusion, just spell cards you could use to give an extra spell to the persona you were summoning.

Persona 1 has you negotiate with demons to get their spell cards. Fusing two spell cards together would get you a persona. It was a stupid system because you'd negotiate with two demons and end up fusing something entirely different. You should have simply negotiated for the demon itself like in SMT.

Still, fuck negotiation system. In P2 you had to negotiate to grind the cards, but then you were missing on exp. In P3-4 you outright get a drop of a complete new persona from random encounters which is bad too.
They should just make demons drop some parts of their summoning cards on death. This way you get both new summon and exp, and it isn't as cheap as just outright getting a new persona as a random drop.
But I really want back for P5 is fusion spells like in P2.

Oh wait, you're bitching about the lack of detail in the NPCs. That was done for a reason as a stylistic choice. Everybody who isn't an important character is represented as a faceless generic to represent the fact that 99% of the people we see in the world are faceless nobodies to us. The world is a crowded place and we as individuals only care about a select few people. Those are the only people whose identities matter to us so they're the only people who we care to recognize in a crowd. Considering the themes of the last two Persona games, it's a fitting choice to represent unimportant NPCs and a clever way to fill out the crowded streets of a bustling Japanese metropolis.
