Started playing it last night.
It took some going, but after looking past the awful, AWFUL fanbase and all the bullshit tumblr tries to sell about it, it's a very charming game. Going for a Pacifist run and the battles give me SMT vibes. Reminds me of Cave Story in a lot of ways, mostly with how...humble it is. Pretty obvious how it riffs off of Earthbound though.
I honestly think if Cave Story came out today it would prompt the same response from the internet. Fandom culture is just shit, absolute shit. It's a shame that a ton of people I know are already turned off about the game because it really does deserve praise.

didn't really interest me initially, but hearing some of the OSTs being posted made me give it a shot.
I thought it was okay, definitely not 10/10 BEST GAME EVER MADE - MASTERPIECE material.
I thought the fights were fun.
Story was shit, but I walked in with an idea of what to expect in terms of the story quality, so I got what I expected.

Cave Story has robots, and one of those robots is a girl with breasts. It wouldn't have been as intense but the same general "it's popular and 8bit so it sucks" and the SJW tumblr bullshit would have been the same. Saving or failing to save the girl robot, Mimigas being drawn as gay muslims, Markiplier's reaction faces to it, it's status as an indie game and a good one and why it's so important, there's tons of fuel for it be treated like any popular indie game that's out these days. Things in Undertale can get pretty bizarre. I dig that so it was easy enough for me to power through but pacing did seem to bug me a bit. Doubly so in Hotland.Still, I'm glad I powered through it. The sort of NG+ 'true ending' thing made it totally worth it. No one enjoys a game if someone twists their arm into playing it, but try to stick with it, man.
