So I just watched a video of this boss and now I'm seriously tempted to get all the Muramasa Rebirth dlc.
I never buy dlc since it never seems to be as good as the main game, but some of these videos make it seem just as good if not better.

You can definitely see in the dlc that vanillaware improved in making action games since the original muramasa release, the gameplay mechanics of most of the character feels a notch up from the base characters. Just be aware that each dlc is three bosses long (intro, middle, final) and that in order to get the second end of any dlc you need to beat every main campaign boss as the dlc character.
Also from an objective point of view, each dlc comes with 3 bosses, added all together they make up the same amount of bosses as Momohime or Kisuke's campaign (not both put together). If you add the price of each dlc sold separately (not counting the bundle that's only $15) it comes at $20, which is more or less half the full price of the game, so I'd say it's well worth the price.

Play Onimusha, I mean it's not Dark Souls, but it should still have some of what you're looking for. The first one in particular manages to have a pretty spooky atmosphere at times, especially if you play the version with that creepy doll.
