For the people 25 and older. What is there to play on Steam that isn't some DLC plagued console port or indieshit?
Recently released. All I've been playing for the past about 5 years now is games that released 2008 or earlier.
>>
>>323949365
Nothing.
Games nowadays are all shitty minecraft clones or zombie survival early access shit.

Fuck crafting, fuck modern video games, fuck my life. God damn kids.
>>
You need to say what genres you're into.

You'll shoot down 90% of recommendations otherwise.

28 here. All I play are Binding of Isaac, Nuclear Throne, Downwell, Cave Story. The only newer games I've played and somewhat enjoyed were Dark Souls and MGSV (never did finish) since I loved the MGS series when I was younger.

Also emulating games from my past. Being jaded sucks.

That's basically what I do. Just try to play older games that I never got the chance to.
>>
>>323949615
I like all genres. Some just more than others.
>>
Cities Skylines is a really great citybuilder. It's not terribly deep - the hardest problem by far is Traffic, and they don't give you enough tools out of the box to fix it, but it'll probably suck you in for a couple dozen hours. It's by a smaller developer.

You might like the Talos Principle. Fun puzzle game with some interesting side-content in the form of computer terminals. It's by Croteam, which isn't exactly a huge developer but has been around for a while at least.

I've been spending some time in Tabletop Simulator - it's pretty fun if you're into board games. It's by an indie developer with no other games under their belt, but most of the actual games you can play are ports of real board games, Tabletop Simulator is just the interface.
>>
>>323950054
I can recommend Dragon's Dogma, I'm playing a pirated version but it's a great port.
>>
>>323949920

Way to suggest indieshit when he specifically told you he wasn't interested in indieshit.

Dead Spaces, Dark Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, The Typing of the Dead, Ys, Mushihimesama, Crimzon Clover.

That's more or less my favorites, dunno how many of them count as "recent".

Crimzon Clover.

Its a real fun bullet hell.
The DLC is entirely optional extra stuff like soundtrack, superplays with translated (text) commentary and printable posters. Neat if you're into it but totally skippable.

The game itself is awesome and comes with tons of modes ranging from novice to insane in difficulty.
>>
Divinity: Original Sin is terrific, even more fun if you have a friend to play it with.
>>
>>323950154
>>323950054
Also in addition to Dragon's Dogma I would recommend Galactic Civilizations 3.

I'm also pirating that because it will get DLC down the road and I plan to buy it complete. It's a great title though, it does what Civilization 5 couldn't do, it takes an amazing game (Gal Civ 2/Civ 4) and actually improves it without making it more streamlined and poorly managed.

It's one of my top games from 2015. Just got a new patch recently (as did Gal Civ 2, shockingly)

It technically shouldn't since backers basically spearheaded it.

Independent studios are people who don't have backing from publishers.

In the case of Kickstarter, the backers are the publisher, they just don't put the same pressure on the developer and they don't get any legal guarantees basically. They're just easy money.

Magicka went pretty overboard with the DLC,
but you can pick it up for a decent price, dlc included. The base game is good enough without any additional DLC.
Top-down action rpg with all spells unlocked from the beginning. You just have to experiment with combining the spell buttons and assess which ones you wanty to use. First you will develop your own style based around a couple of different spells. Eventually you'll be master of the elements, dominating every enemy on screen by "solving" every situation optimally. Add more players for immortality and chaos.

Describe indieshit. I know there's a stigma for hating indie games on /v/ but some of them are genuinely good. I'm 30 and I think I'm approaching 900 hours into Terraria, and I just picked up and beat Axiom Verge. Finding Teddy II is also fucking cool as hell, it's like Zelda 2 with some genuinely decent puzzles.
>>
>>323951813
>>323951032
OP here, one thing I’ve learned getting older is playing shit games is in no way worth my time. Indieshit as a whole is fucking trash. I gave it a shot with bullshit like Goat simulator. Was fun for 5mins. Minecraft was boring. All those platformers that revolve around 1 gimmick like Super meat boy, etc. All bad or fun for like 5mins.

I can’t go by reviews because just being an indie game and popular means you’re at a 7/10. Add in some gimmick and it’s now 8-9/10.

I’ve given up on it.

If I try again it’ll be with Undertale. If an indie game that gets a 10/10 masterpiece rating is shit for me I’m just done for good with that shit.

-MechWarrior Online; free, beautiful, good

At some point, the boy then becomes an adult and learns what he was able to become. Joy and Sadness forever will accompany this. He is confronted with a choice. When this happens, does he bid his past farewell in his heart? Once a boy becomes an adult, he can no longer go back to being a boy. The boy is now a man. A lot of the commands you have aren't really necessary or are just different status screens for different aspects of the game and are often tied to the same button you would use that ability with.

i.e. In Dungeon Crawl:
z prompts you to cast a spell
Z shows you your current magic list
a prompts you to cast an ability
A shows you your current mutations
x lets you look and observe things
X lets you look at the map
w lets you equip a weapon
W lets you equip armor

or there letters represent what you want to do
[w]ield
[W]ear
[p]ray
[P]ut on Rings/Amulets
[r]ead

? Brings up a Menu where you can see all these commands.
I've copied and pasted them here for you: https://paste2.org/OGPg4jFW

I'd say the most obnoxious one for me was 'ctrl a' which toggles auto-pickup.
When you encounter an invisible enemy it automatically toggles it off for some reason and then only switches it back on when you murder the invisible enemy, but you sometimes run away and it leaves it off cause fuck you.

The most important commands you need to know are:

o: Auto-Explore
m: Set what skills you want to level up Hint: focus on one or two at a time, and don't bother with raising fighting til after level 5~7
O: Opens or closes a door, good for stumping those too-strong animal enemies early on but useless against anything with hands
i: opens the inventory
f: Fires a projectile
q: quaff a potion
Q: Quiver a projectile
r: read a scroll
c: carve up meat
e: eat

In the same boat as you. I just play Doom or older games I like.

Sometimes MMOs.

I hope you've seen Firefly.
>>
>>323958863
I can't recommend that show to anyone. Far too depressing.
>>
>>323958863
Firefly ripped Outlaw Star off so much they had to make a wikipedia entry on it denying they ripped it off.
>>
>>323959212
What does it matter as long as it's enjoyable?
>>323958976
Maybe the ending, but I don't see how this is a bad thing.
>>
>>323958863
I haven't.

All the goat animes came from late 90'
>>
>>323959517
It doesn't, both are good. Both ended before their time.

You should watch it, there is a good chance you will really like it.

Op, if you like Outlaw Star, you should play Space Rangers 2. One of the best space games out there.

That's what always happens to me when I get asked for recommendations. Dustforce is awesome though.

I've been playing nothing but The Binding of Isaac Afterbirth and Crypt of the Necrodancer these past few weeks.

Don't recommend MOBAs to people unless you intend it as an insult. Especially someone who expressed exasperation with the way modern games release content. Fuckin' idiot.
>>
>>323962471
They can be fun, you can fuck off with your meme.
>>
>>323949365
Nobunaga's Ambition Sphere of Influence.

Sure, it HAS DLC, but honestly? I'm 40 hours in and I'm still on my third scenario. DLCs are just more scenarios. Game is packed with content.
>>
>>323962718

Not really, not until you spent dozens of hours playing already
Or if you play with friends

But play with friends long enough and you won't have them anymore
>>
>>323962471
If you play them super serious, sure.
Play them occasionally or casually then you're fine. So I stand by what I said, friend.
>>
>>323962887
It's the same story as with fighting games. Sure they are hard to learn, but making progress is actually fun for some people. I have no fucking idea why everybody here seems to have severe ADD but /v/ really makes little to no sense when talking about fighting games or mobas in general.
>>
>>323963402

Not the same though, fighting games are harshly competitive 1v1s,

Mobas work on the basis of making the worst people feel good
>look I'm carrying the team I'm amazing
>look I'm leveling up and gathering items! its like an mmo experience in 40 minutes
>look its all my shit team fault that we lost, I did perfectly well! this is not my fault but all these shitters
>look my XX number is high, I bet you are a low XX number faggot if

It bring the worst out in people and generally just pulls you through your vices.
>>
>>323963705
>look I'm carrying the team I'm amazing

>look its all my shit team fault that we lost, I did perfectly well! this is not my fault but all these shitters
>look my XX number is high, I bet you are a low XX number faggot if
Doing well in a mobo is a bad thing?
>>
>>323963705
Sure, if you're immature you'll think that way.
>>
>>323963943
>motherboard
You really shouldn't be here
>>
>>323963943
The Moba community is highly competitive.
Everything you do is going to be bad to someone

I've been called on-point and terrible by two people in the same game, probably because I was healing the tank actually doing things that helped the team over the guy who just wanted to team-fight on top of our towers 24/7

I don't think its a bad idea to recommend them to people, let them go through the shit show and see how they feel about it.

i actually wish i could enjoy things like this. how do you not just get frustrated as fuck?
>>
>>323966419
Not who you asked, but I enjoy the feeling of improvement. When I get past something that was blocking me it's a small meaningless feeling of accomplishment, like making my ex move out. It really didn't change anything, made my rent higher, but I felt like I had taken a step at least
>>
Dota 2 is worth getting into just to enjoy ChiLongQua videos.
>>
>>323950673
If this game could be rebuilt to be more normie-friendly I would play it.

It sounds so cool.
>>
>>323967069
Sounds like the best game ever, could never climb the entry wall myself.
>>
>>323955725
Or you could stop being a fucking neanderthal and do some research.
>>
>>323967196
The problem is that it demands too much time to learn anything and the UI (hahaha "UI") is a gobbled mess.

Otherwise: yeah, nest game ever.
But I'll wait until it version 1.0 at least, who knows right?
>>
Maybe you're just too old for video games, OP

>>
>>323968190

90's anime look aside, the show's pacing sucks ass. The first four or five episodes are good, but after that it's all over the place.
>>
>>323949365
31 here. These are my enthusiastic recommendations. I'm not sure whether to disqualify them for also being console games, but whatever:

Dark Souls
Shadow Warrior 2013
Mirror's Edge

If Shadowrun: Dragonfall isn't indie, then include that too.

I agree that AAA games aren't producing lots of stuff that appeals to me anymore. I mostly play older titles, and each year there's usually a few indie+portable games that are worth it.
>>
AY YO OP.

I'm 31 myself, and have been playing games as my primary hobby since age 5.

You'll likely really enjoy the Dark Souls series, Dead Space series, The Witcher series, Deadly Premonition, Divinity: Original Sin, Serpent in the Staglands, La Mulana, Ys series, and STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl.

I honestly liked the pacing. It was them going on an adventure. There weren't any arcs other than "survive bitch."
>>
>>323967516
I fear that will be a very long time to wait through, anon.
>>
>>323969014

I just finished the episode with Shimi. how anti-climactic
>>
Wait till February.
>>
>>323949920
Emulation and indie pixel shit are the only things keeping me going. I understand why the market is shit, but it still sucks.
>>
>>323949365
I'll take the bait and try to name one of every genre

DaS/DeS/BB

Shovel Knight is the only "indieshit" game that kept my interest long enough for me to finish the game. bretty gud if you like retro shit

Stalker series is the best open world FPS.

MGS 1-3 for stealth. Stay away from everything else

KOTOR 1 and 2 are one of the only star war games that are actually good. Jedi Outcast for action/adventure and saber combat

RE4, silent hill 2, even Amnesia are good horror/thriller

KF2 is good co-op fps but in development hell. nice gore system

AOE for RTS

Witcher 3 for story-focused open world action RPG

TF2 because only arena shooter not dead and muh quake

Red dead redemption/Vice city are the best R* games to play
>>
>>323951948
Why do you ever come here? How bad is your life?
>>
>>323971261
Mixed feelings about KF2. I'm enjoying it as much as I hate the direction they are taking with the game.
>>
>>323949365

The Industry is crowded with virtually no barrier of entry. it's definitely in a "mature" phase that reeks of big business practices. I've retreated into indie.

So I'm helping Gorsky break into the GSM compound, but I made a SMG character, and I can't heard the sentry bots. Everything else, rathounds psi bugs and stalkers all fall in the smg slaughterdome but those goddam robots. Do I just have to sneak by? What do I even need from the second floor down? I swear I've cleaned every room.
>>
>>323949365

Underrail

>>
>>323972080
There's sentry bots if you're helping Gorsky? Don't remember any.
Are you talking about warehouse or something? Pass as guard by killing the real one and equip absolutely everything he was using.
>>
>>323972397
It's like the 3rd task in the main story, He wants me to open some sealed door.

There aren't any guards to look like, it's a bunch of cameras and sentry bots. I snuck around the vents for like 40 minutes and emptied every room, except the one I need evidently.
>>
>>323972587
Oh, you're talking about the very beginning. Sneak by the vents to the room at the opposite end of a floor, there should be a trapdoor leading down in one of the corners.
You can destroy all of them with emp and HE grenades though and this area has some good loot if you're a crafty type.
