I'm actually rewatching the series as we speak.
Tbh, it wasn't half bad, even by today's standards, the storyline was pretty good in general, and the way in which he represented the characters was not bad at all. Shadow and Sonic as Vegeta and Goku trope work quite well.
Also, watching the fights reminded me why I wanted to see Sonic in Smash in the first place, back when I was in hs. Too bad Sonic came out kinda shitty in Smash. He did a good job with the characters, I'll give him that.
Anyway, yeah, the reboot lacks the charm of the original. And like you said, NG is over. Dude shoulda just never dropped the project like he did.
That aside, Episodes 4, 5 and 6 are still the peak of the series. All else is... ehhh.
