Thoughts on this? I've heard all about Original Sin, but not so much about the game that preceded it.

I heard the launch was botched, but after several patches, it became a pretty damn good game. Is this true?
>>
The main game is kinda fun. Not amazing, but it's playable. It also BTFOs Todd.
Flames of Vengeance is all-around fantastic, though.
>>
Divinity 2 is alright, depending on your opinion on action RPG style combat.
The expansion content is fantastic.
Overall I'd say Dragon Knight Saga is a good action RPG with some ups and downs. Starts off really bad but gets better with some great quests and interactivity, then again the combat isn't very good and some action sequences drag on. Also it has great music and it's really hilarious at times.
Worth a playthrough.
>>
The combat is fun and the writing is hilarious. Despite using gamebryo the game runs great and looks good too.

Do you play the Developer's Cut or just the Dragon Knight Saga?

How does it compare to Original Sin?

It's a bit of mess, but certainly worth playing through for the mindreading and other fun stuff.

If you're into the world and writing be sure to try Divine Divinity and Original Sin. Both are completely different on the gameplay side of things but still fun.
>>
>>323899535
Developer's cut is the latest version so get that.

>How does it compare to Original Sin?

Different genre. This is a third person action rpg where you can turn into a dragon and set goblin villages and shit on fire from the skies. Original sin is original sin. It still has that larian brand of humorous writing.
>>
>>323899535
IIRC DC and DKS are the same game, DC only has optional dev commentary and some cheats I think. Doesn't matter.

The only comparable aspects to OS are the light-hearted setting and humorous dialogues. Otherwise Divinity 2 plays more like a console-ish third-person action RPG while Original Sin is a turn- and party-based CRPG.
>>
You will be fighting a lot. That is, constantly. All the time. And the combat is not great.

Despite that, it is a damn fine game. The writing is much better than D:OS', and some quests are outstanding. Also in terms of improvements, one of the best expansions ever.
>>
>>323899809
>you can turn into a dragon and set goblin villages and shit on fire from the skies
Don't lie to him, anon.
>>
>>323900189
But you can. Not all the time but I vaguely remember a side quest with some goblin king being ass mad because I went full holocaust on his race.
>>
>tfw divine divinity is much better IMO solely because of the music
>tfw when the composer died last year or so

d:OS 2 will be the worst yet, i can tell you that much
>>
>>323899535
The deal with Divinity games is that they are all separate genres from the others, so you can't really compare it to Original Sin except to say that the writing style is similar. Original Sin is probably the most well put together Divinity game yet and the only one that's gotten so much main stream attention.
>>
Was comfortable as fuck to play, the music for the entire game was 10/10.
It falls apart in all the modes where you transform into a dragon though.

Writing is 10/10 too.
>>
>>323900387
You can go full holocaust on them, but not while in dragon form. The game can't handle that, so you get instanced once you change form. Aerial-only in dragon form, ground-only in human.

I love it, it's charming. Godlike soundtrack too.
>>
The expansion was also good, if short
>>

Strangely, I liked Original Sin the least. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it was lacking something compared to the other games.

>>
>>323901169
I know it'll be great since you can play a skeletal, which is something I wanted for a long time now
>>
>>323898536
One of the more will-written RPGs out there, 2bh.

The gameplay is really rough, though.
>>
Are we ever getting a sequel? Fuck cliffhangar endings
>>
>>323901169
Hope they'll at least hire a good composer. They managed to get Avellone on board somehow, after all.

>inb4 it's fucking Inon Zur

>>323901316
But can you romance a skeltal?
>>
>>323900820
You liked it less then beyond divinity?
>>
>>323901541
can you romance a skeltal?
You could in Dragon Commander, I don't see why they wouldn't also add that option to d:OS2
>>
>>323901484
maybe eventually, what with Original sin doing so well I doubt it
>>
>>323901541
What's wrong with Inon Zur? He's pretty based.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdKwLkEGjhg
>>
>>323901673
He's pretty generic and that's not a good thing for Divinity.

>>323901641
Based Larian.
>>
>>323901641
There was no romance stuff in D:OS and nobody missed it so I don't see why they would add it to the sequel. It doesn't fit into this style of game (focus on tactical combat, exploration and funny stuff) anyway.
Dragon Commander was a completely different weird hybrid game.
>>
Could've been better if it had more villages.
>>
>>323901673
>Inon Zur
Holy fuck, that guy worked on some impressive stuff

>>323901906
>It doesn't fit
Who are you to say that? Anyhow, I merely made the connection between having a skeletal waifu in Dragon Commander and a playable skeletals race in D:OS2, they could very well incorporate a qt romance side story, those are always a good motivation to keep playing
>>
>>323901587
Yes. Although I played Beyond ages ago right after finishing Divine. After the shitty final part of the original it really didn't feel that bad by comparison.

I could see Lind Erebos, or whoever is responsible for the music in the newer King's Bounty games doing it.

Maybe I'm bit biased though because those games hit a note with me even if I know they are not all that good.

Regarding Original Sin 2:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7UYk-pHmww
>>
I'm just sad this game could have been so much better. Their original pitch was god damn fantastic but publishers suck dick.
>>
Would Jeremy Soule work for OS2?
>>
>>323902428
Even if he would, Larian should not go for it. You would have to try hard to find someone with more generic music than Soule.
>>
>>323902428
>>323902607

I wouldn't think so, he's too "western" and high fantasy for something like divinity, that might be just me though

I'd go for someone like Kai Rosenkranz, he can make anything fit perfectly

>>
>>323902747
he's right though, his soundtrack for GW2 reuses a shitton of bits from the Oblivion one, he did a good job with the Morrowind theme though
>>
>>323898536

Extremely fun, good writing and humor, fairly interesting world, and great music.

Combat isn't insanely awesome and the dragon parts of the game aren't as fleshed out as you'd like but it's still one of the best WRPGs out there.
>>
>>323902298
Swen is adorable, jesus christ.
And yeah, writing in OS felt kind of all over the place (it wasn't terrible, just messy), so I'm glad they're focusing a bit more on it this time.
>>
>>323898536

It's in my top 5 rpg

Quests are brilliant, writing is top notch and lore is amazing while not taking itself too seriously. Combat is so-so but character progression is still very addicting. Dragon mode, while unpolished really adds to the game.
>>
Hiroyuki Sawano anyone?
>>
>>323898536
It gets some high praise here but I'm not sure why. Beyond a few quirky quests here and there and the ability to poke fun at the genre and itself, it's nothing really special whatsoever. If you can get it for cheap, it can be alright.

>a fucking jap
>made a single video game soundtrack

No and no, first of all, japanese people don't understand the true essence of rpgs like divinity and secondly, even if he only made the music itself, it was awfully utilized in X
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying X's soundtrack is bad

>tfw the best part of Kirill's music was his humming

I'm going to miss that so much
>>
>>323898536
Its great. Get director's cut for cheats and buff your mind reading ability. It has no practical use but game is much more fun when you can read people's thoughts.
>>
>>323898536
This is my favourite action rpg. I couldn't believe how much fun I had.
The combat is rather simple, but dynamic and fun.

I like how hidden passages are actually hidden.

And the dialogues, they're all great.

The only flaw for me is that flying as a dragon doesn't work like in Drakan 1.
>>
Here's a left-field suggestion for a composer: Grant Kirkhope.

His Kingdom of Amalur Soundtrack is quite comfy. His type of music fits the Larian tone.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL325D8B31331849C4
>>
>>323904010
Holy shit Grant Kirkhope made KoA OST? Fuck me sideways I never realized it.
I do agree though, it's amazing and fitting for Divinity.
>>
The only thing that weights down an overall excellent game is shit combat animations. It's just painful to look at.
>>
Reminder that Kirill was a part of a few old russian bands back in days. He probably still has friends who can do a GOAT-tier ost for a next game as a tribute to him.
>>
>>323905086

Well it IS Gamebryo. And an old version of it as well.
>>
How did Kirill die?
>>
>>323905485
Cancer.
>>

Kinda shit.
>Divinity 2 (after all content and updates)

Hope it's even better than the Original, considering you can play as a skele, it should be.
>>
>>323901169
I actually contacted Paul Anthony Romero and asked him if he'd be down if Larian are also down.
He asked me to send him a sample of Kirill's stuff and hasn't responded since. This was months ago.
>>
It's an average potion chugger.
>>
>>323905930

>>
>>323906463
I assume that they either did come to some sort of agreement and he didn't want to spill it, or he actually didn't feel that he wants to go in Kirill's place or something.

This is the song I sent him:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8KmAsD0yXc

I felt that it's the single song that most captures that "going on an adventure" feeling that I got from Original Sin.

I also emailed and tweeted Larian about it, but got no response, so that might mean that something is up or nothing is up.
>>
>>323906491

Ah fuck it, I'll be mailing Larian too. If they get some no-name slav for the job, that's fine with me. But if not, it's Romero or bust. The Divinity series needs the slavic influence.

>>
>>323910415
They probably would. They are a pretty small studio all things considered, even if they've been expanding for the past few years. Their forums, the last time I checked was still kinda dead, yet Larian read it. Their fanbase existed way before KS, so I don't see why'd they care about whether you donated or not. And Swen also has his blog where he is brutally honest with the fanbase.

Well, but I backed both KS projects and also have my signed Anthology, so yeah.
>>

It's nice that they are doing pretty well right now.
>>
I remember playing the launch version and having a bug where whenever I equipped a bow, it would automatically unequip my pants.

It's an enjoyable game, but I wouldn't call it good. Does a lot of things good, but it's very unpolished. Kind of like Dragon's Dogma is, not that they play anything alike.
>>
Good game
