ff13 was just bad, man. It was pretty, had a great OST, and a battle system that was almost fantastic, but there was auto battle, awful characters, and terribly linear level design where it was always just a straight line with one or two outcrops with an item sphere. Maybe it got better on Gran Pulse, but I don't know, I spent way too many hours in corridors to get there. As retarded as it sounds I even played 13-2 without beating the first game because I knew the story, and it was so much better. Tweaked battle system and encounters weren't boring as fuck, the characters were much better aside from Lightning, the OST still kicked ass, and the level design was muuuuuuuuch better in every single regard.
I don't understand why some people here can't accept that 13 was shit. Is it because it had potential and the SE ruined it? Doesn't make it any good just cause it had a few redeeming qualities
