When was the first moment in Fallout 4 it was a handholding, casual piece of trash? For me

>Wander into first town
>Help Minutemen cuz whatever
>Enter power armor with minigun in first 5 minutes
>Fighting death claws 30 seconds later
>Preston Garvey thanks you, you take him to village
>"I see potential in you"
>Literally makes you the general 10 minutes later
>K

Nobody would do that today, nevermind a post apocalyptic hell where your general distrust level to strangers would be at least 9000 times greater than under normal circumstances.
>>
Wow it's almost as if Fallout is fuckin trash
>>
Even back in Skyrim, the "hey you helped us kill that one guy, now you are the supreme leader of our guild" was still present

Hated how they removed required skill levels to advance in certain guilds. It was retarded that I could become head of the mages college after only needing to cast that one spell you do to get in.

The fact that I can't refuse allegiances and kill certain NPC's pisses me off greatly. Im only like 6 hours in the game but I get the feeling that they really just want me to be 1 type of character. I've been killing random vendors and npcs just to rebel against the game.
Theres also no morality system and this dialogue system is so fucked....

Its still kind of fun in the sense that when you are walking around discovering random places it feels like Fallout, but man, does it get any better? Any really awesome side quest or cool moments aside from the main story that I am purposefully avoiding because fuck my son who cares I dont want to roleplay as someone with a family.

For me?

I decided to roleplay as a pre-war enthusiast. A housewife who can't cope with the post-nuclear future and does everything she can to have cognitive dissonance about it. Becomes and isolated hunter/farmer type. Figure I'd kinda make my character slowly go insane and become obsessed with living in Sanctuary Hills in isolation. Rebuild all the houses to pre-war, pretend like nothing happened, try and live my life as if the war hadn't occured, only wear pre-war clothes and use pre-war civilian weaponry (think shotguns and revolvers).

Sounded fun right? Well when Codsworth told me there were people still alive in Concord, I figured my character would go check it out, logically.

I went there, had no real choice but to help Preston Garvey. I figured once that was done I would go back living in isolation in my old suburban home.

"*smacks lips* YO THANKS DAWG MY CRACK WHORE HERE SAYS THAT THERE BE A PLACE UP THE ROAD FROM HERE CALLED SANCTUARY. WE'S IS GONNA SET UP A NEW SETTLEMENT THERE DAWG!"

I couldn't tell him not to go there. Couldn't try to turn him away. Couldn't postpone his arrival. Nope, he just shows up and now I have people living in what was supposed to be my pre-war refuge.

What would be your perfect fallout game?
It could be a spin on one of the old titles, or better yet, an entirely new one, with it's own flavor, locations and characters.

For me, stalker + FO3.
I utterly adore the grime and hopeless despair of the capital wasteland, but the gameplay is just too easy and shallow.
Mix it in with nice gunplay, hunger and sleep, ramp the difficulty up, nerf some key weapons and finally reinvent the character personalities.
I'd be all over that like noob guts on a cazzador.

Bethesda will fix it eventually.

The game is rendering two worlds at the same time and the cities are not optimized for this.
>>
Took me awhile since I went in knowing it was already going to be trash. But one specific moment was when I realized the game didn't even believe I had a small amount of intelligence.

During Nick Valentine's companion quest you have to go around and find some holotapes, each of which have a single digit in the recorded dialogue that add up to a code to open a room where a crimelord is in. So I went around gathering all of the tapes (which feels like a fetch quest since there are so many) and listen to each one. I wrote down each digit that is spoken in the recorded dialogue, matched it to the number of the holotape, then got the ten digit code for the vault. The quest then tells you to talk to Nick, in which he then runs the holotapes through his systems and just gives you the code. Then, when you enter the code, it doesn't even allow you to type each digit in and just does it automatically.

I knew the game was casualized as hell, but come on. You can't even allow a player to figure out a code by fucking listening to a couple of tapes? The digits aren't even tough to figure out, in the subtitles they even may emphasis on them. And this is a quest for a DETECTIVE. The irony is hilarious.
>>
>>323889663
>Oh for fuck's sake this game is already FAR too fucking easy and then there's this. I'm playing on very hard and-

Why the fuck aren't you playing it on survival then? It'll still be too easy but point still stands.
>>
What's bugging me to no end ever since I started noticing it, is how Bethesda world and writing is so that it only makes sense to the actual player, who has access to all the fancy menus and floating quest markers.

Walking around a town? NPCs near you will constantly remind you where the vendors and other services are. You're not even approaching them for a talk, or you don't even know them, but still, he heard some kid is attempting a ritual to summon a killer guild, and thought the player should know so he doesn't miss out on game content.

Why would a bandit take his time to write down his thoughts about attempting to backstab his leader, written in a way that doesn't make sense as a diary or to remember it for later?

Voiced dialogue also assumes it's spoken to a player with other-worldly knowledge and self-updating location markers, and not a real conversation between two people who might not know the location of a cave or city.

Also, most NPCs are awfully open about everything. They'll sprint up to you in their underwear and give you their whole life story as the very first thing ever said to you.
Why would they do that to a stranger with a gun pointed at them, or flames coming out of both hands? Because you're the player. You apparently need that info for something later. Or to understand the static situation that only takes place once you appear on the scene.

It's frustrating none of their games will let you be an actual part of the game world because of this. Also TL;DR.
>>
>>323888892
I agree with you completely. The game has such heavy rebuilding themes and your character could do it, but you aren't really able to do any of that. The fact that the fucking settlers are always working on the houses to no avail is even more annoying

I'm still working on my second playthrough but this is what happened on both play throughs. I get a set a t45 from the start, I find two or three more sets of t45, so by now I have three or four frames and two or three full sets plus an extra torso. I find a set of t51. ONE SET. ONE. Maybe I find another frame with some t51 parts but never a second full set. Now the brotherhood is here and 'helping' and I get T60 OUT THE ASS. SO MUCH T60. So many crashing vertibirds. Knights dying left and right. Eventually I find a frame with some x-01 on it. Maybe I find another frame with some x-01. So far in both of my playthroughs, I do not have a complete set of x-01.

I know that there are spots where frames spawn and that the armor is scaled but I tend to explore early and in spurts so even if I don't find it, I spawn in power armor and get stuck with t45 and t60. I'm sure there are some sets of t51 that I missed and at least a couple of x-01s that I missed but it's still ridiculous.

I'm level 39 and I still haven't hit up the glowing sea and I just killed cereal man so I know there are still some frames ahead and a chance to complete my first set of x-01 after almost 200 hours of multiple playthroughs.

At some point in the game you can join all of the factions at the same time. Doing so unlocks more quests for you even though most are just radiant quests. The only downside is that if you aren't paying attention and just accepting quests, you'll eventually go hostile with the faction that you were just told to destroy with no other options.

Brotherhood -> free set of t60 (and some unique pieces and paintjobs)
RR -> ballistic weaves
Institute -> free doctor? gorillas?
MM -> free settlements? (after battling a fucking mirelurk queen that the game in no way prepares or warns you for)

The Bethesda design strategy is to empower the player. They want the player to feel like a hero and a badass.
Bethesda simply wants to pander to the players ego.

In roleplaying, your character has to have flaws and weakness. This is opposed to the Bethesda design philosophy, in which the player is supposed to be the most awesome guy around.
Casual players enjoy having their dick figuratively sucked. Sure, it's a shallow and immature experience, but it works.

Don't hate Bethesda for choosing this approach to game design. They've been making their RPG's more casual with every release, yet every release sells more and has higher reviews.

Oblivion was more casual than Morrowind, and it sold more. Fallout 3 was more casual than Oblivion, and it sold more. Skyrim was shallower yet again, and it was a massive hit.
Why wouldn't Bethesda try to continue this trend?

Before shitting on Bethesda, you should blame everyone that bought Skyrim, and every reviewer that gave it a 10/10.

>The fucking ridiculous thing about it was that some of those quests were actually easier as a melee fighter (or stealth archer) than as a mage
This, holy shit. All the major bosses in Skyrim's mages guild questline have unavoidable AoE attacks that drain all your mana, hell there's even a dungeon where your mana drops to zero at certain points. The guild was actually easier if your character was focused around melee or archery. Also one of the points which shows how essential characters are retarded
>Psionic Order guy tells you in the revelation that you have set events in motion that can't be stopped no matter what
>Literally the only thing preventing you from stopping them is the essential flag on the obvious bad guy that fucks everything up
