Most sports fans have played the sport they're a fan of. It's really hard to appreciate the game until you at least play a pick up game or throw the ball around. I don't think there are many fans of football who wouldn't want to throw the ball around if they had the space and time, but most want to experience a real game.

It's funny to see how a football player wins thousands or millions of dollars with beautiful women and a family while you see guys like Zer0 from smash 4 barely surviving with tournament money by sharing house bills with autists.
I've been following esports since 2006. Starting with Brood War. I consider myself a noob since most hardcore fans had already been watching for years at that point. I got into it thanks to Tasteless being his awesome self and making it so entertaining to watch.
Then BW got killed off by Blizz (nevar 4give), I moved on to League (SC2 is garbage), then I realized Dota is far superior so I moved on to that. And I also watch CSGO on occasion because my country is very good at it. Don't really understand its intricacies though.
My favorite Dota teams are Alliance, Liquid, and Empire. I also have a weak spot for pinoys and peruvians trying to make it on the big stage. In League I used to be a fan of Dignitas and CLG but both are so different now that I don't care about them anymore. League is also stale and boring, which again is why I moved on to Dota.
Normal sports are pretty cool too, I watch world championships and olympics in hockey. Again because my country is good at it.

I don't take E-sports very seriously, but mostly because the players themselves don't really take it too seriously either. It's well known that they're leagues behind any other professional sport, so they're all really humble and cool people mostly. I still enjoy watching it.
