I'm going to buy this in the next month

Am I secured (1440p wise) for the next ~5 years with this setup?
>>
You should be, the 980 is a beast. I'd invest the extra money in an i7, though. Games' CPU requirements are getting pretty intense.
>>
Also, a mid tower might not fit that card. Everything else looks good.
>>
>>323863178
I've spent hours reading topics about that, and almost everyone exclusively says that i7 is an overkill for gaming, even if we are talking about gaming in 2020
>>
>>323863178

they're just taking bribes from Intel to list i7 as recommended

i believe the benchmarks all show virtually no actual benefit, in some cases lesser performance.

Don't trust Todd Howard's lies when he says you need an i10 to run Skyrim 2
>>

Don't want a noisy computer?
Any reason for that or is it just personal preference?
>>
>>323863310
>Card Dimension (mm) 277 x 141 x 40
>Case: Graphics cards up to 425 mm in length with front fans installed, without compromising HDD capacity; Graphics cards up to 450mm in length without front fans installed directly in line with the GPU

I think the case will be fine, its size is: 233 x 451 x 520 mm
>>
>>323863382
>>323863480
My i7 still chugs along in some larger Total war battles, actually. It's a 4770k, though. You guys think the 6th gen i5s will be good?
>>
>>323863763
>Any reason for that or is it just personal preference?
I've tried to make everything as noiseless as possible, it's personal preference, what else could it be?
>>
>>323863178
Name a game that requires 8 threads.
>>
>>323863772
That means you're leaving a whopping 1mm for cables and shit, which an 850w psu is gonna have. 451mm is the width.
>>

>>
>>323863880

i thought 4X and War games were more about gobbling up your system ram. I dunno though but I'm planning an upgrade myself and am making the jump from 8gb to 16gb. hopefully that will stay okay for awhile.

where the hell are you getting this? did you misread something I posted?

Some people need quite machines for voice recording. I was just curious
Have you look at any case with noise damping material in them?

>solid state drive
>only 500gb

you're spending fucking $669 on a godam graphics card...but completely copping out on the hard drive?.....why?
>>
>>323864431
because I don't need more space? I have an external HDD

right now I have a 250gb SSD in my case and it's perfectly fine

500gb will be an overkill for me probably
>>
>>323863964
if you want as noiseless as possible get a water cooler for your cpu. also, why are you getting a b150 mobo and an aftermarket cpu cooler? drop the cooler all together or get a chipset that can oc.

>>323864179
>everyone on /v/ has the same opinion
>ceo of oculus said it would be between $300 and $400

no shit people are mad.
>>
>>323864562
then why go overkill on the card?...and why solid state?

if you're looking into getting this serious into gaming why not have more space to install more games? please dont say you're getting all this hardware just for a small handfull of vidya?
>>
>>323863020
Nice, Might want to get a HDD as well, I got a 500gb SSD and filled that thing up when I realised it can speed up load times on some games by a shit load. Ended up installing onto both drives to make sure all the shit went to HDD and SDD got the stuff that really benefits.
>>
>>323864751
I agree with this guy to get a 1 or 2tb hard drive, especially if you already have a 250 gb ssd. external hds are absolute shit to run installed programs off of.
>>
>>323864613
>if you want as noiseless as possible get a water cooler for your cpu. also, why are you getting a b150 mobo and an aftermarket cpu cooler? drop the cooler all together or get a chipset that can oc
yeah sorry I fucked up the motherboard, it's actually an ASUS Z170-P

proper water cooler is probably too expensive, I might spend shit tons of money on this but I'm literally at the limit of my budget

also I've read that this fan is actually more noisless than some budget water cooler systems
>>323864751
>then why go overkill on the card?
1440p gaming for the following 5 years, high quality, and lots of fps, how is this an overkill?
>and why solid state?
faster, less noise
>why not have more space to install more games?
I already spend most of my times playing games, this is not my first gayman pc, and I don't need more space
When I finish a game I delete it
whats not to get
>>323864776
>>323864915
I haven't used a HDD in years, got an external 1TB one, but I dont use it
>>
>>323864982
fair enough. I was considering going with a be quiet cooler for my cpu before deciding to go with water cooling so I know they're pretty good.

solid build.
>>
>>323864982
If you can keep your shit tight, then fair play to you man 500gb is all you need. When I got mine I filled that shit up with films, TV Series, Music and Audiobooks it turned from a gaming machine to home entertainment.
>>
>>323864982
its overkill because you've gone to the extreme for every other component...which is fine...nothing against that, but then you get a relatiely small solid state as if storage isnt important.
your logic is really baffling to me, i thought people installed most/a lot of games to have easy access to their collection? and even if you didnt think youd need it, why not have more anyway as a precaution, external hard drives or not

i dont know dude....at the same time im a dirty hoarder who has a disgusting ammount of anime, movies, tv series and video games installed so i might be the minority but still.

but if you truly are a saviour of vidya who doesnt have a backlog and deletes games once completed then i guess whatever
>>
>>323865384
>>323865610
I have like 300 Mb/s download speed, if I need something again, music, series, anime, game, movie or anything basically I can get it in literal minutes, highest quality
if it's something rare and not well seeded and I really need it I keep it on my HDD
so I'm going to be fine with 500 gb I think
>>
>>323865691
well jeez anon you clearly got your shit together...must be nice
>>
>>323865691
300mb/s download

haha alright time to close up this ruse fest
>>
>>323864982
An AIO water cooler is overkill for an i5, especially a Skylake. I have a Cryorig H5 and I get a stable 50° at 4.0 Ghz on my 4690K, a 6600 should do even better with a similar cooler.

I got a 7970 (which is basically a r9 280x) for my middle-end gaming pc to play at 1080P. I want it to last at least 3 years at 30-45 fps.

Was it a wise move from my part?
>>
>>323866304

as opposed to figurative minutes?
>>
>>323866496
yes
>>
Get a 144hz monitor instead of 1440p

ultra-hd is a meme, your games won't look noticeably better, you'll just be able to make larger wallpapers, and the industry won't make games capitalizing on post-hd res until a long time.

144hz however is a real, noticeable improvement on 60hz, playing feels extremely smooth and pleasing.
>>
>>323866851
So you just play at 720P? Do you disable AA? What card do you have?
>>
>>323863020
What kind of games do you plan on playing?

Since it seems like you have money to throw around, you should get a 1440p 144Hz g sync monitor.
>>
>>323867072
Anything over 75hz has seriously diminishing returns.
>>
>>323866851
144hz is TN panel exclusive if I recall, and TN panels are usually not the best for anything else, such as colors, movies generally, etc
>>
>>323866959

1080, what makes you think I would play at 720? Sure, you need the 144+ fps but with a 980ti you're gonna be running most games at that or more. I personally have a 760 but I don't mind playing newer games not at max settings, ever since I have a 144hz monitor I actually prefer smoothness over prettiness. It is that good. I plan on upgrading soon though, just to help with newer games.
>>
>>323866421
In my opinion it's worth it to throw another hundred or so down so that you don't have to dick around with settings so much to maintain 60fps.

That goes out the window if you find a really great deal of course.
>>
>>323863020

Get rid of the mouse anon, get a WMO 1.1a. Absolutely god-tier mouse, and cheap as fuck. Also why Skylake, Sandy Bridge does just fine.
>>
>>323867512

anything over 40 fps seriously has diminishing returns :^)

>>323867593

that is true but there are guides for color settings that immensely help in that regards. Colors out the box are unquestionably shit (at least with the asus monitor I got) but with 10 minutes of tweaking you can get very decent color settings out of them. At this point 144hz really is a massive improvement in playability.
>>
>>323868153
so what 27" 1440p 144hz monitor should I get in your opinion if I can spend ~700 usd on it?
>>
>>323863979
Are there any programs that actually require more than 1 thread? Round robin scheduling isn't dependent on the number of cores you have.

There are plenty of games that will get some boost from the extra 4 threads though, go watch any of the LinusTechTips benchmarks.
>>
>>323863020
I would honestly spend the money for an i7
>>
>>323868693
but why?
>>
>>323868467
>>323868467

I haven't ever looked let alone shopped for 1440p 144hz monitors ever. There probably isn't a ton of them anyway, if you're hellbent on buying one I'd guess any from benq or asus or whatever would probably be good.

But keep in mind, you have to run 144+ fps to fully see the benefit of 144hz monitors. Else it's gonna feel extremely choppy, like 30fps on 60 refresh rate. So even with a 980ti, I doubt you're gonna be able to enjoy that kind of fps on 1440p with newer games.

Trust me, 1080p is fine. The increase in res isn't that amazing. At least not compared to the difference between 60 and 144hz.
>>
Guys, how the fuck do I update a bios without a cpu? HELP.
>>
>>323869225
>But keep in mind, you have to run 144+ fps to fully see the benefit of 144hz monitors
IMO Nvidia lightboost is as much of a benefit as the extra refresh rate. I don't know if the lightboost hack still even works; I've been too lazy to bother installing it. I stopped caring if my games look like shit.

Even almost all mini-ITX can fit full sized GPUs...
>>
>>323863020
no because nvidya will c-u-c-k your card with bad drivers to get you to buy their newest card down the line.
>>
http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/dLRYMp

How do I make this build better? Literally all those prices are like 30-40 percent cheaper on newegg and Amazon, so it's not even close to a 2500 dollar pc
>>
>>323870509

that pc is my fetish but jesus it must be a nightmare just to change a component or even just clear dust. Literally have to take apart the whole thing. You probably have to spend hours just to get the cables right.
>>
so can anyone tell me if there is a benefit to using the back usbs on my motherboard rather then the front ones on my tower? I specifically mean for recording stuff or is it pretty much the same?
>>
>>323872159

there should be practically none unless your mobo only has usb 3.0 on the back in which case the transfer rate is better on those
>>
>>323872159
AFAIK, the only difference is that the front ports have more noise because they have to pass over a lot of circuits. For a digital connection that's probably not going to cause a problem unless you're building a nuclear plant.

>a nightmare just to change a component
I haven't updated it for a while so it's not really a concern.

>just clear dust
It comes with fine magnetic dust filters and with positive air pressure, there's no standing dust in the case. Also I don't live in a pig sty.

>Literally have to take apart the whole thing.
Yeah if you need to change the GPU. But the V2 of this case allows for quick GPU access.

>You probably have to spend hours just to get the cables right.
The PSU cables are designed for mini-ITX cases so they're pretty short and slim. There's also mounting points for the cables.
>>
>>323872581
>>323872424

so it would have a unnoticeable affect on my recordings? there both usb 3.0s I just did not want to use the front ones and then find out that there would be a shit ton of screw ups in the recording.
>>
Bought an gtx 960 tp replace ye olde 650 ti yesterday. Never worked with hardware before but it was awesome.
>look into cabinet as i do when dusting out
>have a bit trouble getting the fucker out
>get the 960 out of the box
>dear god this thing is huge
>go full hentai mode when trying to make it fit inside my pc
>p-please be gentle, anon-kun
It worked and now I can play my favorite games in high detail, fuck yeah.
>>
>>323872885
It's a digital connection. If if works, then there's going to be no difference. IIRC, USB has uses CRC to verify the data, so it's unlikely that you could corrupt a packet and not have it caught.
