It's the opposite for me. I liked 1 the most, really good atmosphere, interesting lore, fairly down to earth for the most part, shit makes sense in it.
The newer games just added prettier graphics. The gameplay got different, but no better. Now there's shit that makes no sense only added in for mass appeal, lots of cliché fairytale stuff with kings, dragons, princesses and that awful open world. 3 especially is a pretty huge disappointment after how much the devs boasted about it. It feels more like a factory-made product than a game with soul like the first one did.

there's literally a mode for story only, a good portion of their player target was the mentioned.
im pretty sure a good portion played it as an interactive GoT-like series, it doesnt offer much gameplay-wise either to keep someone interested only on that aspect for 200hrs, loot and character progression/powerups are weak as well

I've liked them because since the first game they have been pretty much the only games where I can play a space operator full with his team of bitches going around doing space shit
