FFT thread?

I started playing WOTL ony phone. It seems a lot easier than the psx version, can anyone confirm that?
>>
>>323797973

WOTL was rebalanced (JP costs, class unlocks, etc.), so I assume the phone version is too.

How are the controls on mobile?
>>
Is there a patch that changes the ye olde english from WOTL on PSP?
>>
>>323797973
Obviously you don't play with a Game Shark
>>
>make a srpg in 1997/8
>there has yet to be a game which comes close to its characters, story and gameplay

fft is easily one of the best games on the playstation, and could be argued that its one of the best games period.

>there has yet to be a game which comes close to its characters, story and gameplay

Doesn't help that its director is working on phone games now.
>>
>>323798489
lmao

It was surpassed the same year. By a game in its own franchise.
>>
>>323798075

It works pretty well once you get the hang of it. W
The most offputting thing is the framerate is much higher than the other versions and is sped up, some animations are slightly shorter than the audio effects which is kind of funny but after a few fights you dont miss the old animation speed at all
>>
>>323797973
I played both, the normal and wotl, and wotl is based on the japanese version. So its harder. Everything got rebalanced.
>>
>>323798082

I was against the retranslation but now that Ive played a fair bit, it works to its advantage. The story is much more coherent and the characters are far more consistent. Just play both
>>
>>323798736
last two, no

tactics ogre was great, but it lacked (or, rather had too much) meaningful depth. while everything is more detailed, but it suffers when the player is simply overwhelmed by all the information they have to know to even play a battle efficiently
>>323798784
thats just the world we live in today, phone games in japan are quick hits
>>323798812
see previous about TO. a great game that's bogged down by too many stats. even disgaea knew to keep it somewhat simple
>>
>>323798867

I guess Im just better at balancing my party, then. Using items over white mages makes a huge difference. Healing in this game is almost useless unless you get to a high level. I didnt have to grind for Dorter like normal so I was curious
>>
>>323799089
>or, rather had too much) meaningful depth. while everything is more detailed, but it suffers when the player is simply overwhelmed by all the information
Oh, please. Are you sure you didn't play Knights in the nightmare instead?
>>
>>323799204
Well, it happens to everyone for sure. I had a lot of rough times back in the day but now its not that hard.
And yes, Alchemist are better early game than white mage, but white mages have Arise, holy, protectja, and other things better than items. Eventually you'll need them.
>>
>>323798812
>>323798736

Come the fuck on, really? Langrisser and Growlanser were no where close. And tactics ogre was a giant mess.

>>323799089
>even disgaea knew to keep it somewhat simple

>disgaea
>keeping it simple

Good one m'friend kek :^)
>>
>>323799831
disgaea's system is simple. beyond needing to know what weapon affinities were, what the extra item stats meant, how to transmigrate and how geopanels worked, the game is very simple: run up to the enemy, beat their face in

only the post game needed a deep knowledge of the game, and even then it was just
>whats the quickest way to get to 9999?
>how are the item world bonuses calculated?
>>
>>323799831
Really. FFT doesn't have a branching plot, and you could only deploy what? 4 maybe 5 party members? Not much 'tactics' in it too.
>>
>>323800778
tell me how to beat any of the special battles in tactics using a basic strategy

the classic for example, vs about 10 monks at grog hill

6 members, which I agree is too few. But Tactics Ogre has too many (11-12).

You only ever use Ramza and you can only use the skills from a single class from magic city on. Pretty sure its possible with all but 2 classes, Mime and True Calc.

By resetting and not doing that battle until I'm ready(have decent skills, etc...).

no im saying

you're lv99, you have access to every skill (minus blade grasp because its broken), character (minus orlandu because orlandu) and ability in the game.

how would you beat this battle?

Depends, WOTL? Onion Knights or Dark Knights.

Base game? I had like 3 maxed calculators, and a couple dancers with the invisibility perfume.

There are patches for it, but it's still absurd that they expect their fanbase to fix everything for them.

That's Bethesda-tier philosophy that Square Enix is slipping into

Im such a pleb, never owned a psx so I never bother trying fft and just played the gba ffta game. Right now im watching on youtube some gameplay videos and it looks fantastic.. im downloading the emulator and the game right away, any general recomendations?

pic not very related, spend the last three/four weeks playing ffta and didnt patch the game so I cant go any further without restarting the game..
>>
>>323804620
Well, ill try to remember the basic differences with the advance version
>you cant go back to your position once you move. For example, if you move to a certain position in FFT, and you want to attack, but then you say "fuck, better not", and want to go back, you cant. You already moved and accepted your new position once you pressed "are you sure you want to move here?". Its not like FFTA where you can backtrack everything.
>Magic, summons, and other charge skills stuff are not instant, unlike FFTA. The amount of turns it takes depends on...i dont know exactly, i think faith and speed, and luck i think.
>in FFTA, if you do a back attack, you attack more, and you retain the % chance to hit him. In FFT, you increase the % chance to hit him with back attacks, the damage stays the same
>Alllied buffs like haste and protect can miss on your allies
And other stuff.
>>
>>323804620
>any general recomendations?

Dorter Slums, the third fight (or so) is a difficulty spike. If you have to grind, don't worry about it.

The rest of the game, excepting one late boss fight (depending on how you train the hero, Ramza) doesn't really require grinding.

>>

>>
>>323805708
I actually have a CRT, but my PS2 has a fucked up disc reader and I don't own the game myself.

>>
>>323797810
I like the FF franquise, but this only one , no matter how much I try, I just cant like this game, Fire Emblem and Valkyrie Profile Covenant of The Plume is enjoyable though
>>
>>323806101
>just poor skills?

Their entire skill set is awful, which leads to them having low damage
>>
>>323806101
>>323805416
I dont why he says dont use archers.
I have an archer with teleport and a crossbow with a good shield, he hits for like 250 to 300 every attack without charging aim and from a long range.
>>
>>323798402
Game shar was only ever acceptable to use on NES/Genesis/SNES. If you used one for disc based games, you are cancer.
>>
>>323805708
Do the scan lines really improve the quality that much or is it just a meme. I mean, we have some anti aliasing wizardry going on in nearly every emulation and people claim CRT'S are still better.
>>
>>323806238
Now that i come to think of it, it took a while for the archer to reach that point, and hes actually equipped with the best crossbow.

So i think dont use archers early game. Use them Late game, in late game they are strong as fuck if they can hit at least 150 minimum without aim.
>>
>>323806218
>franquise
>>
>>323806471

The games were designed with CRT in mind, which affects the environment and text. It makes a lot of games comfier, but as you approach the era in which plasma and LED TVs become common (PS2 era+) the developers start to account for that.

The early PS1 era as well as the SNES is a good time for CRT
>>
>>323806101
>Good to know and why? very low damage or just poor skills?
Bows are really weak and Charge is just awful. Plus the best bow is only obtainable via stealing if I recall correctly.
You'll need to level it to 4 for Ninja eventually along with getting Concentrate, but you're better off getting Monk first and unlocking Martial Arts to use for that period.
Crossbows are...alright I guess. Takes a while to get them, you get no height bonuses (or reductions which could be useful sometimes) and you can't shoot through allies, but you get access to shields.

>>323806238
That is a lot of time to make a class decent though and bow would honestly get better use out of that because you can pop up to a high location and shoot over half the map.
>>
>>323806903
Yeah, thats actually my strat with the archer
Teleport high ground, shoot with charge the ones who arent gonna move.

generally it is because old console games were designed with CRT scanlines in mind, particularly for 2D games.
And they used the scanlines to give the illusion of detail and 'smooth' gradient.

here is contra without scanlines.

I'm not too bothered by the cost of huge CRTs... it's the fact that they weigh like 90 lbs. is the issue.

I don't want to carry that shit every time I move
>>
>>323806101
Another tip could be that, at least for grinding purposes, every physical character MUST have two abilities from the squire class (the most basic one): JP up i think its called and Focus. JP helps you get more job points so you grind abilities faster, and focus helps you do something in your turn if you cant hit something.

Oh, another difference with FFTA. In FFTA, if you used to potion yourself to grind and do something, or heal yourself with first aid or something even when you are full HP, you still get EXP. In FFT, you dont, if you are full HP and you use a potion on yourself, you dont get exp or JP. So unless you are hurt, look for other things to grind exp and Job points, focus is the easiest way for physical damage dealers.

>>
>>323807440
Interjecting here, a good tip for wizard and priest on turns they can't do much with magic is to have them whack an ally with their weapon (does like 2-3 damage at best) for exp.
FFT doesn't have auto MP regen and getting MP is hard early on, so you don't want to waste MP.
