The V goddesses were also not as good as the mk2 ones, Nep acted even more retarded and I hated Plutia. Soundtrack and gameplay were absolutely fine. I'm just glad V-II drops pretty much every character from V and Neptune and Nepgear act a lot more normal.

Story is definetly better and a lot longer. Gameplay wise, the basic gameplay is the same but some things changed, for one, there's no longer a guard bar, so break attacks are out and replaced with some normal attacks or something like that, rush and power is still there, you can't set 5 of the same moves in each combo option because the slots depend on the equipped weapon, some attacks have secondary effects that can be triggered depending on your combo, it doesn't really introduce anything new but refines the old stuff

Mostly similar to V's, with no guard break, a new formation mechanic and somewhat nicer dungeons. Certain bossfights also have this weird switching platforms mechanic that's not nearly as explored as it should be and feels super gimmicky.
I'm mostly glad we got rid of the clutter of characters from previous installments, as much as I'm going to miss most of them, and that the new characters we do get are all mostly story relevant.
