Depends on the finish, the N3DS has a matte texture to it and it's the kind of shit that would probably suffer from yellowing fade and grimy stains if it's white, depending on the conditions it's kept in that is. Still gorgeous otherwise.
Glossy colors like on several Sony consoles are annoying fingerprint magnets but I suppose they're not as susceptible to such problems. Hate how glossy black PSPs and super slim PS3s are, probably has to do with the design. Fat Vita though looks good in that regard, black wouldn't have been my first choice but it's still good looking

There are quite a few official designs with color already, but you need to pay up. They are usually bundles or limited (and jap-only) and thus more expensive

There are at least 10+ official PS4's with different patterns or colors already. Only on online retailers, and you generaly need to pay more, but alas.
No one is doing that anymore for the general public, not even nintendo. The best there is are new3DS backplates, which you also need to dig online to find the least common (and generally best looking) ones and sometimes pay more than MSRP for. Even so they don't change the whole system's color and are only for the smallest model.
