Honestly the only meh gameplay is normal battles, bosses are pretty awesome. Other than that it's pretty basic RPG stuff, you got your fetch quests, your item combining, your fishing, and your REAL TIME FARMING! (the last one sucks, don't do it)

Well, Nier's plot was really simple actually. But setting, backstory, bosses and characters were really well writen. Game has a lot of neat shit. I also liked how director explained everything in interviews. He wasn't like "oh you need to think everything for yourself" he just said it all.

Nothing really, you can play Nier without playing Drakengard at all. It's quite important to finish New Game+ because of addition cutscenes.
