The only we can get form that game is that Humanity, whose already magically enhanced by Frozen Flame, discovered the Sun Stone and use the said stone's power to create flying island. They're both really great games. Trigger is a much more straightforward game with a faster pace, it's much easier to pick up and is more satisfying for most audiences to play. The combat is simple and incredibly satisfying, the characters are all likeable, the environments are all great and it's really hard not to get invested in a story about such likeable characters traveling through time to prevent the apocalypse.
Cross is much more of a slow burner with more subtlety and complexity both in its mechanics and narrative, and is even more satisfying but in a much narrower way. I often get the feeling that people dislike Cross because it showed that the consequences for messing around with time, and changing the past won't necessarily lead to a better future. Personally I think this is a pretty universally relatable theme, I don't doubt that most people (including myself) have wanted to go back and change things we think we did wrong, but I suppose it's less to do with the theme itself and more how it makes the player reflect on Trigger. It may not be a sequel most Trigger fans want but I really wish people would try and appreciate the game for what it accomplishes in its own right, which is to make the player think about their actions and appreciate what they have.
I'm partial to Cross because I just prefer slower paces and more bittersweet narratives but it shouldn't ever be said that Trigger is anything less than sublime. I wish it were possible for fans of either title to appreciate both games for the wonderful RPGs they are but that seems to simply not be possible for some reason.
