>generating new dungeons requires connecting the game online once to download required data.

15 years from now when PS4s no longer are supported by Sony and no longer able to connect to their servers, you will not be able to play randomized Chalice dungeons anymore unless you own a PS4 with the required data already downloaded.

Do you care? Are games just throw away experiences to you--not having value once they are used up, ephemeral and pointless, or do you actually want to experience the full breadth of what a game can offer even 15 years down the road?
>>
It would definitely be a bummer for me if I tried to play a 15 yrs old game today and I ran into that situation.

However, bloodborne's playerbase has gotten pretty small these days. So for this specific instance, I don't think its that big of a deal.

15 years down the road, no one is going to give a shit about bloodborne. People will just say, "play DaS/DeS".
>>
We're going to have to live with it, most of the games this generation won't be playable in ten years time for some reason or other.
>>
>>323719018
>"play DaS/DeS".
I dunno I've seen quite a lot of people saying it's better than DeS and at least DaS2
>>
>>323719202
>most of the games this generation won't be playable in ten years time for some reason or other.
Wait what. How is this? Can you give some examples of why? I mean Bloodborne should still be playable, just a few pieces will be cut out. And of course multiplayer only games--many of them will be useless but that is expected from a multiplayer only title.

>>

Anything with online components will get shut down, anything with heavy DRM too when those servers get shut off, developers and publishers aren't too concerned about leaving anything playable behind.
>>
>>323719953
Seems to be a PC focused post. I mean how many console games have an "online check in"?
>>

Literally worse than all of das2
>>

>15 years
Fuck yeah Im okay with that, you kidding me?
Nobody will be playing souls games in 15 years, unless they make more of them.
>>
>>323720114
Just about everything EA makes these days.
>>
Are we just going to ignore that generating chalice dungeons works just fine in offline mode?
>>
>>323720358
Does EA even make single player games anymore? I can't even name one EA game released this year besides that multiplayer only star wars thing and I assume a bunch of garbage sports titles worth about 1 dollar.
>>
>>323720709
>>323718558
If true, I have to ask what the fuck the point of this thread even is.
>>
>>323720820
Is is true. The only thing that doesn't work is searching for other people's open chalice dungeons to create them for free. For obvious reasons.

It's chalice dungeon shit
I'm happy knowing that in 15 years no one will have to experience chalice dungeons

There's a reason they're not coming back for DaS3.
>>
>>323720709
>>323720820
>>323720916

Even in offline mode, to generate random chalice dungeons, you MUST connect once to download the "chalice generation" data. Why they didn't just put it on the disc...
>>
>>323718558
>Are games just throw away experiences to you

All experiences are throw away experiences.
>>
>>323718558
>Are games just throw away experiences to you
You're saying this like Chalice Dungeons were a major part of the game and not garbage most people probably just touched once or twice and then never looked at again.
>>
>>323718558
If they bought a console then they already know their games will be obsolete in 5 years
>>
>>323720979
No you don't.
It just checks if there's a newer version of the generation code. If it can't find one, it'll just generate them the way they were when the game came out. Which doesn't actually appear to be any different.
>>
>>323721165
Tell that to all the mustards emulating SNES, N64, PS1-2, etc games
>>
so after beating this.
i tried my hands on dark souls.
i killed both black knights in the undead burgh and they both dropped the black knight sword and great sword and now everything dies instantly.
are these weapons supposed to be early game breakers?

I suppose you think Steam will be around forever and you will be able to keep all of your games too, right?

Stop thinking this kind of issue is tied to Sony only, this is how the entire world is shifting.

Why are you taking this out on the consumer? What the fuck are we supposed to do about it? Should I boycott a game now because I won't be able to replay it over a decade from now? Do you realize how crazy that sounds? I'd rather play it now than never at all. It's an issue, sure, but an incredibly minor one and not something we have any say in. Plus chalice dungeons are shit and completely optional. The core experience will always be there.
>>

>15 years from now
hey gays, hey, what if, what if 15 years from now, bloodborne will finally come to PC
>>
>>323721483
My guess is even if you're in offline mode it still connects If there is an available connection. Since no one plays without an internet connection even if they dont have PS+ no one knows where a game ACTUALLY requires online connections unless it flat out tells you it is connecting
>>
>>323722087

>>
>>323722004
Yes, although none of them have chalice dungeons
>>
>>323722260
Someone could just test it real quick by deleting all the local data, installing the game again and completely disconnecting their PS4 from the internet before starting it up.
>>
>>323718558
15 years from now you will be able to emulate it on PC with all content included. For free.

Individually, no. Collectively absolutely. If the demonic wave of "online, connected experiences" had been rejected by consumers, we wouldn't be in this situation.

>>

>>
>>323718558
silly anon
you just have to buy the Bloodborn remaster pack with all the data you need for 120$ plus the 50$ per month to be able to keep using your sony playstation 7
>>
>>323722284
wait you cant?
cause if you buy a ps1 game on ps3 you can use it on your psp and your vita
>>
>>323718558
You can't even play Bloodborne without updating if your ps4 has ever connected to the PSN.

Every game should have a PC version eventually because its' the only way it'll be playable in 50 years
>>
>>323722647
I agree.
However, it might be better to let this trend continue anyway and "fix" the games in 15 years when people want to play them again.
Plus, its not like all games will have this problem, but it is important that they remain the minority.
Online only games will probably be fucked though, thats too bad.
>>
>>323723321
No, PS4 is not backward compatible in any way.

There are a few PS2 games on the store, but you need to buy those all over. You can also rent digital PS3 games, not many listed. Again, need to buy those fresh too.
>>
>>323718558
How will this work with my pirated version once it's released for PC?
>>
Chalice Dungeons are retarded garbage so I don't give a shit.

Also data storage capacity and cost efficiency grows exponentially, so hosting legacy content will cost companies pennies over time. People will look at this shit like we look at Doom WADs.

Haven't played Bloodborne, but humor me. Why are these chalice dungeons a bad thing? People seem to really like the game and randomly generated dungeons just seems like it would constantly bring you more of a good thing, so what gives?

You would still think they look like shit.
>>
>>323718558
I'm sure there are PC posters in here so I will ask; what should I even do?

Quit playing console exclusives altogether and just game on a PC? Even if most of my favorite games are Sony/Nintendo exclusive? I'm not a fan of DLC, online reliance or any of that shit, but I don't know what I'm supposed to do about it other than "get better taste" or play games I don't like because they're easily accessible, cheaper or pirateable.
>>
>>323723683

DOSBox and Commodore 16 emulators exist. I expect Windows 10 emulators will also exist for whatever there is in 2066

>>323723725
The environments are super samey, and going through them for the best gems turns into Korean-MMO levels of grind. Randomly generated or not, once you've seen the first couple, you've seen them all, and it just blends together

Good thing the PS4 isn't nearly as convoluted as the PS2, PS3 or Xbox and therefore will be much easier to emulate.

A lot of people aren't getting the point. In any medium, archival is important. Even archival of the drivel.
>>
>>323724932
You get the materials, like a witch putting things in a cauldron, and you make the dungeon. It randomly generates the thing and it's "yours". It has your name attached to it and it has a shareable code. You then play through your own dungeon and see what it has in store.

If you have cool shit, you share and other people play it and it becomes a dungeon others use and you feel neat.
>>
>>323723725
They really aren't that unique, the same dungeon pieces get used over and over again. Most of the time you can just roll past everything and hit the lever. A good bit of the bosses are retreads.

And the biggest reason is that you have to do all of the story dungeons to farm top tier gems.

>>323725418
They're not though.

Same tilesets and such, but you can genuinely get some weird cool things happening and weird layouts and even just better more efficient things.

I made a dungeon the other day with a messenger bath in the first side room as soon as you enter the dungeon literally right after walking through the door. Easiest dungeon I've ever seen to buy lost and uncanny versions of DLC weapons. I've been using it across all my builds.

Another one I made had a shortcut within the dungeon to bypass the boss gate and open it from the other side, the post gate sideroom was actually connected to the main layer.

Another I made had 2 brainsuckers at the gate lever, makes for great farming for flat arcane radials.

Shit like that is why I love root dungeons
