No Assassin's Creed III, by the way, that game sucks shit.

Does Kevin Smith dislike Innaritu's work too? Smith strikes me as a cool guy, not always on point but pretty down to earth and fairly sharp. I think that Clerks 2 is one of the great sequels in movies.

Please, for the sake of all that is refined and beautiful stop spending money on anything other than your own survival. People like you make people like Innaritu, Abrams and Jennifer Lawrence rich and influential and as a result drag down humanity as a whole.
>>
>>323665198
The project of such game was cancelled two years ago.
The closest you can get is a mod for Mount & Blade, taking place during Seven years' war.
Or American Conquest with fan-made maps

That game is awesome. It's a shame that the ideal tactic is the same 90% of the time, but id you're a turtling fan it's a god-tier rts.
>>
>>323667340
Please explain
I liked the movie besides the 2deep4me scenes where he's tripping out, but other than that every encounter he had was entertaining and the fight scene had me flinching
>>
>>323665198
Meriwether

Which is semi-dead by now "Oregon Trial meet Expeditions: Conquistador" type of deal. Real shame it's mostly abandoned by authors, but hey, they were actually making the game, not like the Three Million Dollar Man.
>>
>>323667591
>2deep4me scenes where he's tripping ou
If you were watching them closely, half of them were foreshadowing what will happen later in the film. Like the dead woman in tons of blood drowned in the creek, which is how Fitzgerald finally dies
>>
>>323667537
I'm not sure if you're serious or not. Why wouldn't i care who the director is? Innaritu's got a reputation and a relatively distinct style for making movies which I dislike and don't want to see influencing other directors like it probably will.
>>
>>323666735
I watched the movie for the actors, and it was great.

I've never heard of the director before.
>>
>>323667793
You see, because the only person giving fuck was you.
Most people went to see this because of DiCaprio. Alternatively - Hardy. Rest - because it's an entertaining flick with tons of gore in it. NOBODY gave a fuck about director.

Aside of you, of course.

Besides, if this was /tg/, the "Stop having fun, guys" image would be the best way to sum up your stupidity.
>>
>>323667591
Felt like a bunch of flashy gimmicks with no driving vision behind them. Why the fuck does the camera never stop bobbing and weaving? Why did Innaritu choose this story to make of all the ones in existence, was it because it would let Dicaprio meme the fuck out and go full method-retard for the sake of it? On a base level what's the movie about? Revenge? Survival? Family? Human savagery? Winning Academy Awards and acclaim from plebs who don't know better?

It's not important what the film contains. It's important how it's marketed. And it's marketed as revange flick with DiCaprio in it.
And if this film is not gory by the standards of non-gore horrors, then you dear sir, are fucking pretentious idiot looking for attention by nit-picking.

Movie was way too fucking long. To me it suffers from the same shit akame ga kill suffered from, that they just keep doing the same shit over and over. After a while, everyone he meets dying starts to lose its impact. Him having to do some stupid wilderness shit to survive starts to lose its impact. The opening scene was great though.

John Wick is pretty shit, but Dredd was great.
>>

>It's marketed as some kind of masterpiece if you ask me
Only that it's not. It's marketed exactly as pulpy revange crap with rarely used type of frontier setting (when Kentucky was wilderness) and popular actors in it. Want to see how make a marketing for pulpy "power of love" story as second coming of Christ? Recall the marketing of Interstellar.

By modern standards, Verhoeven, the GOOD Verhoeven from late 80s, early 90s, would be rated 21+ and nobody would be able to watch his films.
Shame.

To me they felt the same. They both felt like adolescent power fantasies rather than straight up entertainment, which is what action should aim for. Both have edgy as fuck premises, god-mode protags killing straight-up bad guys, shallow attempts at stylish moments like wacky subs in Wick or Slo-Mo in Dredd, and a general feeling of drudgy angst and grit dragging the whole movie down.

Paul Verhoeven and Yuen Woo-Ping have it down, action needs to be acrobatic, funny and generally aiming to please in simple ways. What good does a serious tone do for an action movie?

Hardware is a movie that I think did much greater justice to 2000AD than Dredd did and it feels more like an episode of Red Dwarf than John Wick in the future, an that's how it should be.

Bueno - what made me enjoy Wick was the amount of over-the-top violence, felt like Psycho or Rambo all over again.
>>
>>323669186
There is literally ONE saving grace of John Wick that you are constantly ommitting.

The film comes with single, short exposition in the middle of it, simply put there to tell for who Wick was working in his old days. Everything else is a master case of "show, don't tell".

But yeah, other than that, it was pretentious action flick with fucking Neo in it, which by itself made somewhat bearable film barely watchable.
>>
>>323669189
He's right about the prequels though. They're technically impressive, thematically consistent with what already existed, new stuff but familiar and each stands as a solo movie while also tying nicely into the greater saga.

Meanwhile if you make a Star Wars movie according the "fans'" desires you get Meme Wars 7: The Reddit Awakens Into Darkness, which is just a generic Hollywood by the books blockbuster with a Star Wars coat of paint.

I really liked the first two thirds of the movie. Seemed like a mix of a bunch of movies I really liked, like Dances With Wolves, Apocalypto, True Grit, a bit of There Will Be Blood, etc. I didn't like some of the symbolism that went nowhere, and later on the ambiguous morality drifted more and more into a black-and-white'ish good and evil (the frenchies hanging that one indian while raping the chick; Tom Hardy's melodramatic last words while during the most part of the movie he didn't came across as a villain but rather a dick who did what he deemed best for survival), but overall my favourite film of the year.

Can someone recomment me other films like this? (Or the films I mentioned up there?) I don't feel like going to /tv/.

And if your screenplay is shit, not even combination of good acting, director's leadership and superb cinematography are going to save that.

All director does is checking if everyone is doing their job. That's all. And film like no other media is a teamwork with multiple elements that must ALL be in perfect way to work as a whole.

Oscar bait is a certain aesthetic that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with social justice, and it long predates the current bandwagon. A Beautiful Mind is like the quintessential Oscar bait

They're 99% of the problem if you ask me. The best thing for /tv/ would be for our new Nanking-Denying overlord to purge them all and replace them with people who will try to get people to actually discuss movies.

That's literally the only thing you are expecting from this type of flick, you stupid moron. No wonder even /tv/ hated your sorry ass

If directors are just glorifies supervisors how do you explain any kind of consistency across filmographies? Is it all due to using the same crew?

I'm sure many directors are like that but a lot of directors like to control as much as they can and have a hand in everything and use their crew like tools to achieve their vision.

Vision is the big thing, the cinematographer and lighting guy don't show up on set and do whatever the fuck they want, they give the director what they want.

The King's Speech, A Beautiful Mind, The Theory of Everything, The Imitation Game, The Danish Girl. Historical biopics like this are the most reliable form of Oscar bait

What the hell happened?

Man, my childhood sucked film-wise. We had Lord of the Rings I guess.

Define "art." What distinguishes "art" comedies from non-"art" ones? If you say cinematography I will dream of killing you tonight.
>>
>>323672474
Depends on the director retard. Plenty that filmed/wrote/edited films by themselves. There's always teamwork of course, but that takes nothing from the role of director.

Exploration of themes, human expression. If your film is trying to entertain instead of express it has failed on a fundamental level.

Dunno I always found it lackluster, but don't really know why. Haven't seen it in a while. Same applies to X-Men. I actually liked X-Men III the most.

they aren't in vogue right now maybe because people got burnt out after the early 2000s. Gladiator, Lord of the Rings, Troy, King Arthur, Alexander, there was a whole string of them. or maybe 300 killed them by making the genre too comic booky

Look up any video of someone getting hurt, in an accident, brutalized, etc, in China. No one ever helps. It's because they have no semblance of a good samaritan law over there and if you save someone's life in a situation like that you're likely to get the shit sued out of you.

It's also to do with their social development.
Emotional development in China differs to western caucasians, one cause is the huge population, which impacts emotional and social actions.

It's nowhere near as bad as many anons make it out to be, but it was definitely disappointing compared to the ezio trilogy. Still, the atmosphere was comfy and despite being a angry boring plank of a character, controlling Connor made you feel like a badass. I still say he's the most OP protagonist of the series. He would wipe the floor with any of the others in a straight fight.
