Definitely going with Skylake i7 6700K and the GTX 1080 Pascal when they hit.

>implying VR renders frames twice per second
You fucking moron.

It's essentially the same as active stereoscopic 3D. It renders a frame once every 1/90th of a second per eye at different angles. So essentially you are getting better perfromance since each frame is running at half the total VR resolution.

Don't be so retarded.

>>323660360
This. If a 970 is barely capable of running GTAV at max settings at 60fps on a regular display, how the hell can it run GTAV at 90fps when it's on two separate displays?

I'm PS4 VR ready

Otherwise, no. And probably won't be for more than half a decade when I buy my next PC and it just so happens to be able to handle VR. My current PC runs all games I'm interested in even at 3k, be it PS2 emulation or mid-range games. And Witcher3 60fps but at 1080p.

I see no reason to waste such a large ammount of money ($800+ for Rift because Yuropoor, and whatever PC upgrade I'd need, nearly doubling the price) when I can just get a PSVR with no further upgrades needed for the rest of this generation

My guess is that a whole lot of people are in the same position as me. Perfectly capable PC that runs anything you'd want, but not good enough for VR. Even if the PSVR price leak was true it would be much less expensive than PC VR for me.

Depends in each game, just like now. The worst ones will be 60fps reprojected to 120, but Sony is pushing developers to avoid 60 altogether and aim for 90fps minimum or the recommended 120fps

We'll see where most end up with, I didn't get to ask what fps the PSVR demos were running at. And I don't think we know the fps of full-er games like Battlezone, AC7, GTS, 100thRobootGolf, etc. just yet

Missed out on the Gigabyte 980 Ti for $540 on Newegg yesterday. Shoulda bought one.

Quadro cards have special drivers that boost performance in programs such as Maya and 3dsMax. These cards also are more accurate than GeForce. Take for example a model in AutoCad. When using a Quadro, it will look accurate. But when using a GeForce it will be a little off, or not as accurate as the Quadro. Also because businesses will pay $2000.
>>
>>323664524
>Can it do something magical?
Yep.

ECC memory, unlocked FP64 double precision, exclusive software and hardware support.

They're designed for science/oil/medical research targeted for efficiency and accuracy rather than pure GPU grunt.
>>
>>323664524
It's for like research and stuff, for like calculation-heavy stuff running on really fast hardware. I think they generally are used for processing massive amounts of stuff over the course of weeks.

Ignore them and go for traditional graphics cards.

It's old tech, I don't know what you're smoking to think it doesn't exist.
Here's an example of 24fps (mostly 12 fps for character animation) turned into 60fps
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKtn_ldhSSw
Of course rendering a frame in a game is different from playing a video file, but the end result is comparable to that (except it's 60>120 instead of 12~24>60)

Battlezone is 60fps reprojected to 120, confirmed by the dev. But that's not the ideal situation. Aiming for 90/120 would be better
>>
>>323664297
I'm actually looking to make my own case, but just interesting to see how they've fitted everything in. The way they've placed the graphics card is a good idea to get it thin, just need to find a riser cable long enough to do that.
>>
>Intel HD Graphics
>i7 with 8gb of RAM

You tell me. Shit's nice, but way fucking underpowered for $800; never ever let your family know you're interested in getting/building a new PC. It's one of the greatest gestures someone can offer to someone like us, buying them a new PC, and I'm as thankful as possible, but it is very true they don't know what they're buying.

You learn to love the things everyone else hates, though. No VR or amazing-looking games for me for another decade, probably. And that's just fine.

I'm planning on making something that looks like pic, I'm planning on getting a liquid cooler block on my cpu, mounting the fan on the back of the case, out of sight and then I've got a gtx 770 that has the exhaust vent in the back of it, which should disperse most of the heat and then just chuck an HDD and SSD over the top of the mobo and gpu.

Building the case is going to be a right pain in the ass and getting some perspex in the gap and hooking up LEDs is all going to suck but I reckon it'll turn out nicely.

Remove all VR context from your comment, replace "PSVR" with "PS4"

It's exactly the same thing that's happening now. You won't get the best experience out there on a PS4, and yet people don't care. Before Xmas added 5.7 million units, the PS4 had 50+% of the marketshare and earned that form multiplats alone (pretty much). Every multiplat gets sold more on consoles even if it performs much, much better on the PC

This isn't even a comparison between the PS4 consumer base VS PC consumer base. It's between 100% of PS4's consumer base and 8% of the PC market that owns has VR-ready build (or 1%, if you count non-gamers but that's not really fair)

It may be the worst, but it is the one everyone can buy for the headset's cost alone (no need to upgrade). When Rift/Vive ignore the entirety of the Laptop market (most PCs in the world) and the pre-built mid-range PC market (the second largest slice of the pie) then they are bound to never touch the mainstream, while PSVR still has a chance.

Of course this is all irrelevant to you and me. We are free to have high-end PCs and upgrade them if need be, no need to worry about the casuals. The problem is that we don't live in a bubble. Most dev support goes to the biggest guy in the ring, and that will be PSVR for the foreseeable future.

>buying 1st gen VR

Why?

I'll just wait 3 years for vastly improved headsets with all the kinks worked out, and all the features requested by 1st gen users added, as well an already large game database ready to go, and VR-ready cards on discount.

do you really think people will drop another "price of a system" on another toy. If it takes off it's better for everybody, including PC. But I doubt it will be widely adopted
>>323673404
except you're wrong. both of them have their own technologies, VRworks for nVidia and LiquidVR for AMD, Oculus SDK supports both. I don't know about valveVR.
>>
I just bought a samsung gear VR for my phone. Pretty excited to try that out.

there's no cooling
it runs fine. components don't heat up as much if you don't OC them.
Video card is on the other side. Needles to say you need to use quiet components, this case won't isolate anything.

Yes, the Occulus supports both, but which do you think developers are going to use? NVidia has a much better track record with lobbying devs to use their shit.
>>
I don't care about the newest games.
I only care that I can run Thief on VR.
>>
>>323674048
devs will use Oculus SDK, other shit is just bells and whistles to make things work better. It will work fine on both systems.
>>
>>323659643
No, looks like the 290x is just under what I need for minimum.

I don't really mind, I'm really in no position to buy a VR headset. I look into it in a few years, when they're cheaper and more bugs are worked out.

They have best (almost perfect) chips that come out of the foundry fitted in to them.

I can't tell you. It wholly depends on how popular VR becomes in general. If it does, PSVR will sell the most by far, accelerating VR development and VR-compatibility with most games (think CoD, FIFA, Battlefield, etc) faster than Rift/Vive could ever hope in this 1st gen.

It may be expensive for the general public, but it can also be their first time with VR and leave a strong impression. I wouldn't be surprised at all if most Playstation sections in stores had a PSVR demo booth, instead of guitarhero or Uncharted4.

Speaking of guitar hero/rockband, how expensive were the complete band kits? I'm sure they weren't $400 but they couldn't be that cheap either. At the peak of popularity before the burst I'm going to assume they cost the same as a 360, or close to that. And they only worked for 1 franchise.

I can't say if PSVR will truly take of. But on the other hand I wouldn't be surprised if it sold more than 700k in 2016, with the PS4 craze going on right now (and probably peaking in this year and 2017). I don't know but they have the highest (well, only) chance out of the 3.

>>323673730
I see, you believe Vive will fare much better than PSVR for the general public, and anyone who doesn't hold your views is a delusional sonyfat. I literally only talked about the market's reaction, not my own opinion

>>323673825
Yes, except the last 2 points.
>>
>>323659643
No, and I won't be until 2018/2019. My 280x OC and 6350 will have to last until then, but I might upgrade to an 8350 if the CPU starts to bottleneck

Personally, I can't wait.
Sony has a history of overcharging for garbage (like their $1500 goggles that were basically just a shitty display that you strapped to your face).
I look forward to the eventual asshurt and denial when the turd costs more than the Rift.

Nope, 4690k and 280x here. I guess I could use the Rift to play older games using Vorpx or something.

If they want me to buy their headset and a whole new PC to play new VR-native games they had better come up with a better games list than "50 indie walking simulators and jumpscare horrors".

In my opinion, no. There are plenty of games even on 1080p that don't hold stable 60 fps, so I'd have to sacrifice some image quality for the higher res and 90 fps of the Vive/Rift.
