XIII wasn't that bad, but it could have been better. The sequels improve upon it.
XIII-2 does a few things better, but it's problem is that it's much easier due to lack of level capping that was in the first game.
Lightning Returns is superior to both games through and through, and I want to do another playthrough soon.

I think that deep inside he thinks he is responsible for his mother's death, but accepting so would have cause him to reject all hope and eventually turn c'ieth. His anger was the only thing keeping him going. The deeper part is that he also blames his dad. When he decided to go on vacation with his mother without his father there, he sort of unconsciously stepped into the role of a father, i.e. to protect. Because he was not able to do so, he kind of shifts the blame towards his father, because he assumed that had his father been there, his father would've been able to save them, which he very well might have, seeing as how he was a fairly well off politician. That's why he was so angry at his father. Hope himself is a fairly deep character, as was most of the cast. It's good to take a thread to dissect his character and really appreciate his role.

It was good. I can't comment on how good of a Tales of game it was since I only played Vesperia prior, but the game by itself wasn't too bad. I'd say a price drop is a good thing to wait for, though, since opinions are pretty divided.

Then in LR again it's not even hope until the end of the game and it's mythical bullshit
Basically if you haven't gotten it by now, maybe half of FF XIII is decent but then it descents into pure bullshit territory with it's ending and the other 2 games on this so called "epic" triology only push the bullshit train even further

The story was worse but Serah and Noel are better protagonists and Caius and Yeul are better secondary characters than those in XIII. It also looked worse, (which is understandable) had less actual areas, reused a lot of its' own assets (again, understandable), and had those shitty puzzles.
And the levels felt empty since there were random encounters for some reason rather than having the monsters on the field.
