I don't really like most of the songs in 12.3, but the character select screen and title screen songs are actually really nice if you bother to listen to them. Shame the start of the title music gets old really fast and you'll usually blaze by character select.

I'd say my favorites so far are legend of hourai, innocent treasure, and witch of love potion.
Phantom factory made me feel genuinely uncomfortable and mildly scared. Zun's good at making music that can do stuff like that.

I mean, Seihou has always never really been about complex or ornate patterns, but the first one still had some very nice patterns in it. The 5th boss in particular has some of the most visually stunning danmaku I can think of. I just didn't feel that about any of the danmaku in the third game. There were some neat gimmicks, but none of it really caught my eye in any real way.
And by cheap tricks I mean dying to things that you can't really avoid without knowing ahead of times (there's one boss that ends up just ramming you at a certain point, with no real build up to the attack.)

Why is this game such trash? Is it because the difficulty curve doesn't exist? Or is it the overuse of glow on every fucking bullet? Perhaps it's the fact that every boss, save the last one, feels like their fight goes on way too fucking long, to the point of tedium? Is it the funky shottypes? Or the fact that, starting the game, you get a staggering choice of a single shottype, the only other shottype in the game being locked? Or could it be the fact that it's a more bomb to win heavy game than fucking MoF?
Personally, I think it's simply because it's a shallow game that puts more emphasis on spectacle than being enjoyable to run through. Jinx is a man who understands how to make a game look photogenic, but he doesn't understand what makes a game fun.

I know that feel, only my experience with touhou is entirely backwards. I'm the most comfortable with trying to 1cc UFO, I can't seem to get comfortable with the older games' spellcards. I pretty much started with the harder ones in the series but I'm so dogshit at the ones that are easy it's pathetic.
