It isn't ass-numbingly awful. Compare it to TW1 and TW2 though and get back to me, both previous games handled it in a much more fluid and thought-out manner.
Also, gameplay doesn't extend to just combat. A huge part of the Witcher universe are the potions, preparing for the fight, etc. Sitting down and crafting/drinking the potions you thought you needed before a big showdown and coating your blade with oil was the best feeling from the older games. TW3's system of only having to craft them once, then sticking them on your hotbar like goddamn health-potions with oils lasting forever till you used them was the stupidest decision I have ever seen.

There were contracts and sidequests in both games. TW3 had plenty good ones, and so did TW1. TW1 was also a 15-20 hour game whereas TW3 was a 100+ hour game, and a large part of that 100+ hours were running around to question-marks for menial rewards and the occasional fun encounter.

Those "question-marks" are there so you would want to explore the world constantly for better equipment that Witcher 1 never even had. Witcher 1 had like two pieces of armor (that enhanced armor from the merchant and Raven's armor) and like four unique swords worth using over the whole game.

it's a shame though, Witcher 3's combat is just functional. it's not really superb. a lot of it has to do with how spongey enemies and Geralt are. i think it'd be better if everyone did more damage, but you can't have it that way. either Geralt is a walking god or enemies are massive health sponges that take forever to kill.
it makes me wonder how bad Cyberpunk is gonna be. although hopefully it's more of a shooter, that's pretty hard to fuck up.

i started a second playthrough of 3. i went with Triss first, now going with Yennefer. while it's interesting seeing her not be a bitch, now it's kind of boring between us. Geralt and Yennefer's relationship is so much more interesting going with Triss, there's so much tension and it makes the two of them being tied to Ciri all the more interesting. also Triss leaving for Kovir is so depressing and i'm hyper aware of her absence in all the following scenes. Geralt and Triss really is the OTP.

I think you might be genuinely retarded, W2 starts off hard and it gets super easy, this is not a problem in W2. Also W2 has all useless as shit armors which you never use because the game is 20 hours and the alchemy system is heavily downgraded
