That was what happened to everyone. My theory is that the developers intended you to run away from him. But the zombies should be no problem, sure they are beefy with their hp, but fire works well and they are not really threatening enemies.
Though enemies in this game have in general a lot of HP. Ogres will be strong foes for a long time. Best way to beat them is by using the right enchantments and debilitation.

Yeah, that first ogre is a pain in the ass. As for the undead down there, fire/holy enchant will be your best bet against them. Be sure to upgrade your gear, especially weapons, as much as you can. The way defense works in the game is subtractive. If your damage is less than their defense, you do 1 damage, if its more, then you do whatever the difference is. Enemies have "levels", but its not outright stated.

Ogres have huge physical defense. They take more damage from magic, setting them on fire gets you the DoT, but they might rage. Ice is good, and lightning, especially a nice brontide to the head, will stun them and possibly knock them down.
Or, climb on their back, they'll try to jump on to their back to crush you. Jump off as they crouch down to jump, then just wail on their head as they lay on the ground kind for some free damage.

okay so i got to the city and had to do that pawn guild quest where you go to the basement. Anyway, there's a part where you open a gate and go down and there's this weird as fuck troll enemy, so he killed himself almost immediately and I got 6000 XP. the game is heavily dependant on levels and equipment
basically the way damage works is that enemy defense gets substracted from your attack and whatever is left is the damage you deal
so if you deal 200 damage each swing and the enemy has 180 defence you end up dealing 20 damage per swing
now if you upgrade your sword by 20 damage or gain 4 levels for 5 attack each you will now deal 220 damage per swing vs. 180 defence dealing 40 damage per attack, effectively doubling your damage.
It works the other way around as well which is why one of the warrior augments that makes you take less damage per attack is very, very strong early on since it is a flat boost to your defence

I'm a little disappointed with the texture quality. I played it a lot back on console, but blowing it up to higher resolution is bringing the low quality into focus.

You really want to focus on using the right element for the enemy you are fighting. Skeletons and undead are weak to fire and light, I think ogres are weak to lightning? I know Cyclops' are weak to lighting.
Either way, focus on upgrading your weapons first and foremost. If your attack power is 150 and you are up against an enemy that has 145 defense, you are looking at 5 damage per hit. At that point, even an upgrade of 10 damage is going to be a huge deal. So always buy the newest shit and upgrade it as much as you can. Once you get over that initial hump, it gets a lot easier.
Otherwise, set shit on fire and poison it. Use those explosive barrels that are almost everywhere. Use items here and there. There's more to it then just unloading on whatever is in front of you.

This is really disheartening to hear. I'm really enjoying the game and definitely want to pick it up at launch so I can experience all of the cool pawn shit, but hearing this makes me hesitant to keep playing because I really wouldn't want to lose all a whole bunch of progress when I move over to the real game.

That is where trading peoples pawns online comes in. Pawns will learn enemy weaknesses the more they fight them, and in their stats they have a knowledge rating for each enemy type. If you hire a pawn that knows a lot about the type of enemy you are fighting, it will tell you all about its weaknesses mid fight. Alternatively, if someone hires YOUR pawn and fights enemies, it will still learn new things once that person sends your pawn back and you rest at an Inn to update them.

you may not need to replace your gpu at all, it happened to me and a 8800gts; bought a 5770 hd after that one "died out" and then after some years i really killed my 5770hdby cleaning it with the vaccum cleaner. pro-hint: touch your gpu with the metal part of the vaccum cleaner and a statical discharge will fry the pc component it is touchingand while i didn't had the money to get a new one i went back to 8800gts and managed to make it work by literally throw it to the oven for 10mins at 200ºc.
it worked for around a week before i needed to to that again and it only stopped working after a year or so because i fell asleep while doing it and the whole shit burned out - but there're more permanent methods to do that though (reflow).

Well I have a 144hz monitor, so for me having more than 60fps makes a big visual difference. You can actually see the difference between 60 and 144 frames, and the end result (when you can find a game you can actually lock down at this framerate) is absolutely stunning.
It's hard to explain to someone who hasn't used anything higher than a 60hz monitor, but there's a big fucking difference. Night and day. I recommend giving one a try if you get the chance.

I have a 2560x1440 monitor overclocked to 100hz and I get no option in the game to set to 100hz. Only 59 and 60.
