Put points into flurry, and then master speed and stasis field when you finally unlock that stuff. You'll basically win the game because you can hit shit like 4-5 times(5-6 if you have a double bladed weapon or two in each hand).
Game is fun. Manaan best world. Highly recommend playing KotOR 2 right afterwards.

the banter between your party members tends to be random with any of your characters. there isn't a specific predictor over when the banter will occur or not, though I will say some characters engage it more than others
also yeah don't level up too much on taris. you want to save a good majority of those levels for reasons. as a jedi, you'll gain powers based on level ups so the more you reserve those the more powers you can get. force pursuasion and domination are great cause they give you fairly strong and fun dialogue choices if you're lacking on inherent pursuasion, as well as being able to do Jedi mind tricks is sick as hell.

Don't treat the entire game as a single story. Treat each planet as its own story with a broader overarching plot. Kinda like watching a bunch of movies in a series. Enjoy each movie individually instead of trying to marathon through all of them. Every planet has its own self-enclosed plotlines and it's better to experience them for what they are instead of rushing through because you're more concerned about what will happen later. It's a fairly long game and you'll get bored quickly if you do that.
It's generally recommended you go to Tatooine and Kashyyk first because you get your last party members there. It's also recommended you do Korriban last for plot reasons but it's not required. Going to Manaan after Kashyyk will unlock a rather lengthy sidequest. Rotate your party members frequently instead of using the same ones, and talk to your party often.

OP here, somebody clue me into what the restoration mod for KOTOR 2 is? I hear it restores a bunch of cut content to the base game. Is it worth it? I'm guessing that it's like half-finished stuff left in the code that somebody modded back in, but how half-assed is the content itself? NPCs with half-voiced lines, missing textures, bunch of fetch quests? It just seems weird to me that there would be a significant amount of worthwhile content that the devs had basically finished but never bothered using.

The reason why the restored content mod for KOTOR 2 is so significant is because the development for that game was severely rushed. LucasArts basically told Obsidian to have it out by Christmas, which means a ton of actual storyline content got cut. It's not like KOTOR 1 where it's a finished game and the only cut content is because the devs thought it was shit or LucasArts wouldn't allow it (lesbian romance option). In most cased, the restored content in 2 is stuff that was fully workable content, fully voice-acted and animated, just shelved because they didn't have time to polish it.

The Steam Version has Workshop support and RCM is the top thing on the Workshop.
Steam version also has numerous improvements over the original release, like better resolution support (up to 4k), the ability to disable force speed effects, and more.
Make sure to still save often though. The game has an unfixable bug that sometimes causes dialogue to all be skipped at lightspeed if you've been playing for a while. It's something wrong the engine itself. Just save really really often and reload if it happens.

I quite enjoyed KOTOR back in the day, is 2 worth getting and is the restored content mod actually decent or is it a case of 'there's a reason devs cut this shit' and it's implemented in a very amateurish way?

2 is a completely different beast from 1, and much better written. The RCM is not just decent, it fully rounds off the game. KOTOR 2 had a hideous amount of cut content, and most of it was cut because they were rushed and couldn't finish everything, not because it was bad. There's one exception - the Droid Planet, which is legitimately 'there's a reason devs cut this shit' but the people who made the RCM helpfully put that part in a different install, so it's optional whether you want to suffer through it or not.

The cap is like 50 in vanilla KotOR 2 so the mod had no reason to fiddle with it as I believe you can't even get enough XP in the whole game to reach the level cap.
It adds a lot of dialogue, finishesHK-47'sstory and makes the ending more coherent.

it's not about the lenght of the game but about understanding what's happening. Most of the cut content were cutscenes and conversations with characters explaining the whole plot of the game and how it was connected to the previous game (and it's characters).
Withouth the RCM the game suddently just ends and you don't know what the fuck happent. With the RCM you understand the whole travel and how it is related to what Revan did before and after KOTOR1.

Its more for characters you dont care about or understand.
For example, I dont enjoy magic in games. So in DAO, I generally used the Auto-level for mages because I dont enjoy magic so I never looked into it.
In KotoR I used it to level T3 and Mission and thats it. Everyone else I would level personally to make sure I pick actually useful talents.

This. I use it for characters that I know the game will min/max better than I like the droids or canderous (usually the "blaster" users). With the jedi it's more tricky as you probably want to compensate your characters and the game will choose the same fucking force powers for each one.

It's not very difficult to beat the arena (Bendak included) even at level 2 Scoundrel/Consular build (aka shit tier). Grenades are your friends. Sonic grenades for debuffs, conc grenades for stuns, plasma grenades for damage. Add on to that the huge amount of medpacs/energy shields the game shits all over you during Taris, and the numerous ways to abuse the AI with mines, and you've got a recipe to coast right through if you buy enough items.

Pop energy shields in the moment you get at the start of the fight before you pull aggro. Always go into the menu to heal, never use up one of your combat actions for it. Just by using the menu you make it almost impossible for anyone to kill you, since they have to one-shot you. And if you can't die, that simply means that you can throw grenades until you win. Bendak goes down hard to plasma grenades, especially if you can sneak a conc grenade past his saves first (quite hard, but you can savescum for it if that's your thing). I mean yeah sure, if you went for a straight shootout you wouldn't stand a chance. But this is really the only fight in the game (arguably Gadon and his bodyguard count too, since you're in that tiny ass room) where the grenades are necessary, so you might as well blow your load on him.

In kotor 2, even when you were railroaded into being dark or light in some convos, you could at least go about it in different ways. You could be dark side just in the sense that you wanted revenge on the Jedi who exiled you, without being cartoonishly evil.
