Anime isn't very detailed per se, there are many old shows with simple designs and shading. The animation is limited due to budget constraints, that's all. That fact doesn't prevent the good animators from making interesting animation though.

As someone who went to an art school to study animation for 2 years, I can tell the one and only reason it's like that is because of the budget. Old animation was more detailed, frame-by-frame, so it was way more expensive and needed more time to be made.

Why would you do that now in a kids show when you can just make some vectored images and reuse them over and over (2015 mickey, Gumball, etc) or just make simple non-natural and exploitable proportions (adventure time, regular show) that you can deform however you want and it's way cheaper?

The number of frames is not the sole determinant of what makes animation good. Many TV cartoons are very "animated" with lots of movement going on, but most of it is inexpressive and robotic.

Goddamn, that's some horrifyingly entry level stuff.

Trust me, I'll ease you into this. Watch these:

>Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
People still don't believe that this movie wasn't rotoscoped (traced.) It's about a cop in a dystopic alternate-history japan who can't bring himself to kill in the line of duty and the fallout of his failure to shoot a terrorist agent. It's got a good English dub if subs bother you.

>Ghost in the Shell
>Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
These movies are top-tier science-fiction and are also very pretty. They both have solid dubs too. In my opinion the sequel is actually better than the original but it's a bit polarizing. They're about cops in the future dealing with cyborg related stuff.

>Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise
The first in-house project from the makers of EVA and in my opinion their best, and also the highest budget on an anime before Akira came out. This movie's a lot like that movie Contact, only prettier, more thoughtful, and made first. I particularly like the English dub on this one, Brian Cranston's in it.

>Redline
This one's (in)famous for taking 7 years to animate. It's very cool looking though. It's about car racing in the future. If you liked The Wachowski's Speed Racer you'll like this. It's got a very solid English dub too.

I'll add more on top of this fellow anon here >>323537701

>Sword of the stranger
Feudal japan, story about a samurai that runs from his past. Great coreographies and realistic battles overall.

>Cowboy bebop (anime and movie)
Greatly overrated, but that doesn't mean it's bad. The english dub was good enough for the english dubbers to make a cameo in the sequel. My personal favourite anime of all time but not for what you'd think. You can give it a shot to Samurai champloo if you liked it.

>One Punch Man
While the story is just a parody and most characters are just dumb and uninteresting, it probably has the best animation in fights (for an anime, that's it), specially the last one, being 4 minutes of non-repeated, non-talking battle in total. Don't tell anyone on 4chin about it tho as you'll get shit on.

>Any miyazaki movie (I recommend The Castle of Cagliostro)
While miyazaki is just Japanese Disney, CThe Castle of Cagliostro was on of his first and it's not an original concept as it's about Lupin III. Comfy as fuck movie and has great action.

>Vampire Hunter: D
Remake of the original Vampire hutner movie, great visuals, artstyle and pretty solid animation. Another of my Personal favourites.

>Satoshi kon's movies
Mostly rotoscoped, but they are amazing script-wise. Tokyo Godfathers is my favourite, but Paprika and perfect blue are also amazing

>Metropolis
Animated version of Metropolis writted by Osama Tezuka. Not that original as it's not an original story but still great.

>Steamboy
From Katsuhiro Otomo, who also made Akira. Steampunk and interesting, but not as good as Akira, I'd say.
