Not more than Abyss, rather you'll appreciate Abyss more so for improving upon what Symphonia lacks, but it still holds up for anyone, fan of the series or not, to pick up and enjoy

Abyss was my first Tales game and I loved it to pieces, 10/10 game and extremely refreshing compared to other JRPGs.
However, Tales of Symphonia is way more a typical JRPG. The beginning was pretty jarring; while in Abyss Luke freaks out at having to kill a single soldier and the value of a single life is given great importance, Symphonia starts off with a dying priest crawling into school delivering a message and dying in front of Lloyd and Genis, who don't even flinch. I mean shit nigga at least Genis should have had SOME reaction to just watching a dude die, he's like 8 years old. Instead they're just like 'wow something's happening, lets go check it out!'

Maybe. Give it a try. It's kinda similar to abyss, but with deeper skill customization. Also Relationship paths and choices. Also I think it has good replay value.

Abyss is my favorite, and I only played this a couple years ago and liked it a lot. I actually have played it through twice since then. The combat is outdated but it's still a pretty good game.
