Which game has the best AI?

Morrowind. The enemies can dodge all of your attacks.

Only if you're a shit who doesn't know how to properly level his character.

Past level 5 I never have an issue killing anything, especially cliff racers.
>>
Of the games I've played, I actually think it might be MGSV. There was never a moment in playing it that I thought enemies reacted stupidly to my actions, all while coordinating attacks, switching behaviour patterns, using vehicles, the environment and gun placements, and knowing when to charge at me or fall back depending on how many of their ranks I'd taken out.

You forget it as the game progresses because you unlock a bunch of hax bullshit weapons, buddies and tools and they have nothing to counter them, but just straight up sneaking always managed to feel amazing.

You really don't appreciate AI until you play a game were it's terrible, and I've been playing a lot of PS1 games recently.

Civ V.
So advanced, it knows how to cheat.

I feel so alone when I think was Kubrick's best film. But hey, whatever.

depends on how you measure AI strength. Some games just have simple AI with good placement or games have more diverse AI but actually doesnt perform as well due being less powerful in the situations they are placed.

Also at the moment they have made pretty good AI for age of empires. They know multiple tactics they shuffle up, they scout and react to what you build

F.E.A.R.
Or at least when it comes to A.I.-level design collaboration.
>>
>>323464743

I wonder what the A stands for?
>>

It's not technically a Kubrick film in its finished form, but nevertheless I love it to death. Ending chokes me up every time.

Everyone of you fuckers should read this .pdf about FEAR AI. It's good.

GalCivII

The AI actually plays the game. Different races prioritize different styles, they respond to how the player and other AI are playing, and they usually provide and interesting game (even if they don't always play optimally).

Fucking shame about how GalCivIII ended up ...

Rocket League bots have a damn good AI

AI is one of the most overlooked aspect of gaming and it was the single thing I really wanted to see advanced as shit when I was a kid.

Fucking internet ruined everything
>hurr durr just play multiplayer ;^)))
>>
>>323468149
what happened to GalcivIII?

I remember stardock putting a lot of effort in them. It is impressive how high you have to put the difficulty before they start cheating

This film actually choked me up. Really enjoyed it to be honest.

In a nutshell, they fucked up. Spent too much time worrying about their new hex system, multiplayer, and graphics - not enough time making sure the enemy AI (or the self-management AI) wasn't shit. It's gotten a bit better after a year+ of patches, but it's still pretty trash. The irony is that the hex system and multiplayer are also still kinda trash.

What? Everyone here is praising the film.

It's the same with the prequels.

This.

I mean, I am sure there are other games that pull off AI that is about as good (kinda doubt it though). But F.E.A.R is a masterpiece when it comes to making it feel real.

I think the fact the spaces were closed and easily to map out by AI also helped, most of the shooters it gets compared to have more complex environments where its harder to have the AI suceed. Close quarters also makes the combat very visceral, always.

What they nailed was having the AI shout all the time things that were related to what you did as a player and what they were about to do. Also, having small thing such as backstepping or outright fleeing when the player shows up. I think a game that also had good AI was Wolfenstein, but it never got close to F.E.A.R for this reasons.
>>
LOL
Are you watching it right now on HBO as well?
>>
Quake AIs become seemingly sentient if you leave a match open for several years, or something.
>>
>>323467803
I felt like it went on for too long. And that ayy lmao ending was just ridiculous.
>>
>>323471168
Those obviously weren't aliens, man.
>>
>>323471302
What were they then?
Friggin super robots of the future?
Anyways, it is besides the point. That ending was dumb as fuck, and the whole "she can only come back for a day" thing was beyond contrived, and downright just insultingly retarded.

AI in mgsV is fucking stupid. I learned how to abuse it in the first two hours, and I learned how to break it in the first five.

Even if you dont abuse it, theres a slew of problems. Why can I knock the same guy out six times, and he just assumes he fell asleep six times in a row?

FEAR was pretty good when it came out, first time I actually saw proper flanking maneuvers in a game that didn't involve large scale combat.

Aged somewhat poorly though, and you can tell that they had to limit areas to make their AI effective since it shat itself in non urban combat environments.
>>
While not directly in the game, The Talos Principle had a bot that could play through the game itself and Croteam used it to playtest the game for 15000 hours.
It can still be accessed as benchmark test.

Didn't they had to gimp the AI for Unreal (Tournament) because it was too good and playtesters thought that they actually fought against real people during a botmatch?
>>
>>323474031
That's officially how it is. Stalker is technically shorthand.
>>
>>323474031
Because that's the name?
>>
>>323474031
because it is stylised like that?

>>323472815
it was pretty simple but by using triggers and observing player behaviour they managed to make it look very smart
>>
>>323474156
>because it was too good
AI that's too good is shit AI. And if it truly felt like real people, they would've kept that AI and made millions off it.

I've always been a fan of Halo's enemy AI, thought the friendly AI is woeful.
>>
>>323474031
Because calling it "Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers, Robbers" would take too long.

AI - Actual Intelligence. you ever see small soldiers?
>>
>>323474156
I think you're getting it confused with a contest they had for developers to come up with UT bots that could fool players into think they were real humans.
>>
>>323474156
Not in the original game, but a few years back some programmers managed to develop AI systems that passed a modified Turing Test at a higher rate than human players.

>>
>>323474156
Also as another anon said, AI that's 'too good' is dumb. Bots can have their reflexes and accuracy way beyond human (set them to godlike and get totally fucked), but adaptive play and stuff like that is what most people are thinking of when discussing artificial intelligence (as opposed to artificial skill)
>>
>>323468689
If i remember correctly NC said that in retrospect he actually appreciates the film as 1 director honoring his friend who died before he could make the movie he wanted.

I remember if a UT99 godlike bot grabbed the minigun it was pretty much gameover. The only saving grace was that they valued a lot of other guns over it, even though it was by far the deadliest gun in their hands.

Look at that neck!
But instagib matches with Loque were always fun. You had to kill him before he locked his aimbot on you or catch him while he was pulverizing another poor bot
>>
>>323475047
skill in shooters like UT is also about knowing item spawn timers, spawn points and what to prioritise. An AI shouldnt just be a good shooter (which is easy considering you can just give them a perfect aimbot to make them rape your face with hitscan like the minigun) but an actual good player know when to expect an enemy and therefore is a good shot since he can ready himself on shooting someone before actually seeing someone. Which is really hard to program. Since a computer would need to learn what the player opponent prioritises as well as the thought that if he sees someone running at spot X he can do W, Y or Z and how he can best fight that.
>>
>>323471038

Carmageddon also had crazy AI. It keeps coming up with news ways to fuck you over, and some people are still analyzing it and finding new things.
