I'll be playing for the first time on Friday evening. I usually like playing warrior types.
I've seen the fighter and warrior classes. Is it like prestige classes or can they both be played at a high level? And which is more satisfying in DD, sword and board or greatswords?

Classes are different, not necessarily better. The only class you don't want to play as is mage because it's just a healing and support type. If you play as a mage it's just to boost your magic skills as you level up before transitioning to Sorcerer or another magic using class.

You can sword and board. great sword, Hammer, and Mace and tower. for fighter(ish) characters.
And yes every class is viable but each class becomes more viable the higher ranked in other classes you are.
If you want to do some seriously good damage as a Sword and board fighter make sure to rank up Great sword Warrior to get the passive that increases Melee damage. doing a bit in strider and such could help with the problems of stamina.

It does not have scaling, You will not frequently walk into your death if you don't just run like a bitch around everywhere. The mainline quests and such give you more than enough experience to level at a steady pace and if you want a challenge the Island introduced in the Dark arisen version is more than enough.
You get to those places that loot but Stealth isn't a thing in this game.

You can solo by yourself. Yourself and your pawn or yourself your pawn and up to 2 more pawns from made by other people.
You can beat the game by yourself but there are monsters that take significant less damage from Physical or magical. In short you yourself can't fill every roll. Your pawn actually learns how to fight the enemies properly the more they fight them.

DDO isn't popular because it's nippon onry and it has some frustrating mechanics that make playing with pawns a hassle.
Apart from a few changes (e.g. you can't grab onto small enemies because you don't have a grab button, and you only have 4 skills due to one button being a dedicated action button), it's DD with co-op. There's a bunch of small details that have been removed (you can't grab onto harpies, shield drum has been removed, you can't hold other people/pawns/goblins, the chimera can't have the goat killed at all etc.) which make it a slightly shittier experience, but the core gameplay is still pretty good, and it's better than most MMOs out on the market.

Strider gets helm splitter and cloud burst volley which are unique to the class. If you can get to the 3rd level of those abilities (require BBI rings), they are one of the highest dps moves in the game.

Actually yeah it is. The game uses very simple maths for damage calculation, it's essentially attack - defence = damage.
If you have 101 attack and the enemy has 100 defence, you do 1 damage a hit. 20% more attack = 21 damage a hit.

There is an item you can throw that explodes (and other throwable items that can set enemies on fire).
Dagger skills can throw what is basially firefrackers to distract and stun enemies.
All bow users can use explosive arrows.
Assassins can literally set a bomb and light the fuse as one of their skills.
All dagger wielding classes can also knock enemies into the air and set an explosive they land on basically.
Additionally you can find barrels full of explosive material around you can hit to detonate, or pick up and throw.

Stone Forrest and that holy AoE are both pretty big charge attacks. Then there are all the buffs and shit, that damage circle and cannons, and all of the wand spells....

MK is a more fun version of fighter. You'll have support abilities, can DPS, can perfect parry, can do melee and magic. It's also the most balanced, unless you're going full DPS and then you'll play sorcerer for a long time.
Your build really depends on your playstyle, if you're going to use more melee attacks then you'll need to play Warrior/Assassin for a bit, if you want to do fuckhuge burst damage you'll go sorcerer.
Warrior needs to charge his big attacks. He's slow to play and not very versatile, but when you hit, you hit hard. You can just play warrior from the get-go, it has all the stats it needs.

Assassin is a physical glass canon. You can use sword and shield, or daggers, and a bow. So it gives you a lot of options.
You're fast, dodge, can go sonic-mode with celerity, and do tons of damage. You also get access with your sword or daggers a skill to do a lot of damage when you're grabbing a boss, so it's really useful and fun for your first game.
If you get hit you're going to feel it though. If you only have one pawn then make sure it's a mage to get heals.
