The game has some references to Xenoblade Chronicles, but as far as I know the stories aren't connected.
X excels in areas that the original didn't (The exploration isn't as linear, the quests are greatly improved, etc), but in turn it suffers in aspects that Xenoblade Chronicles did well.

i thought i could fight some legendary god type character or some shit like xenoblade games usually make you do but instead you just fight your edgy teammate turned giant monster guy raargh
the saving grace was the battle music, but the fight itself felt very underwhelming and un-epic, but the music sold the entire thing about 20 times more than the zanza fight did
overall the ending was kinda spooky, really interested me, just a little scary to think thatthe person that you are isn't really you, and the real you died a long time ago

It's pretty much Chronicles but better in every way, although the story isn't as "HAIIII EEEEP" and in your face as Chronicles. You don't need to play Chronicles, there's just a few references at best. Imagine a really fast paced FF12's battle system combined with cooldowns and secondary cooldowns, as well as bonuses for using certain combos, as well as the ability to stagger opponents, knock them over, destroy their appendages to stop them using certain attacks, etc, and with a buff/debuff system that relies on party synergy and combos.

Good in theory, somewhat poorly implemented.I DID genuinely get worried when he heals himself using your Skell fuel, though. The game needed more bosses that render your Skells useless. It's such a fight or flight feeling.

Like it or not, X has a better setting. Chronicles tells you you're on a giant while only showing you two areas that actually feel like you're on a giant (Fallen Arm/Bionis Heart), otherwise the game might as well take place in a generic planet. Gaur Plains doesn't feel like a leg, the Marsh doesn't feel like a back, the mountains don't feel like a shoulder, etc.

Yes and no. It's different, which comes with the caveat of being worse in some areas and better in others.
Pros: The region music is fucking fantastic, as is the Overdrive music, and some enemy battle themes.
Cons: NLA's music gets VERY repetitive, singing during dialogue in a cutscene is a sin, rap may not be to everyone's tastes.

Two: That's not a con unless the zones are the same size as can be expected from the previous game... and they're not. There's quite a bit of unexpected variety in terms of scenery there may be within a single region, and how LARGE they are more than offsets the lacking quantity in comparison to the original.

Chronicles suffered from this problem and I'm kinda glad they've taken this route. The story is more focused instead of running off on tangents, for example the 5 hours you spend with the High Entia or the 2 hours with the Nopon in Chronicles. If they relegated Tatsu to a side character with no involvement in the story I'd consider it perfect, but he's always just kinda there.

After reading some of the scans from Art of Mira that people have posted here, I'm convinced the game would've been much better if they didn't include the online multiplayer and the create a character garbage. The online isn't even that fun aside from Nemesis bosses and barely adds anything to the game. All the missions are piss easy

Plus they still had to cut things like Celica and Rocks development. Theres rumours that Celica was supposed to ride Rock instead of a Skell, and the art book that comes with the LE says they considered letting rock use Skell weapons.
They won't be able to use that in the sequel if it hasLaoas the main character like you say it will, plus other stuff like his love interest being part of the Sakuraba family and the MC's dad can't really be included in any logical way
