Hi guys, just started underrail and wanted to know if you guys could give me any tips for this game. And what about the leveling system: which one is better?
>>
Oddity rewards exploration and allows faster leveling without combat grind.
It's by far the most balanced and fun one, OP.

Also don't make jack of all trades, you need a specialist. At least one primary stat should be at 9-10.
>>
>>323427868
>Oddity rewards exploration and allows faster leveling without combat grind.
Actually from my experience I can say classic is either faster, or about the same if you explore literally every nook and cranny there is.

Oddity is still more fun though.

>tfw shield rechargers are fully implemented with their own blueprints, unique components, working formulas, textures, basically ready to be put into the game
>they are not in the game
WHY
>>
>>323425752
That depends on what kind of character you are planning to play. If you put points in hacking and/or lockpicking and/or pickpocketing, you have no reason not to go oddity. If you don't want to level any of these, you will have a harder time, but if you don't mind exploring everything and doing almost all quests available to you, it's still fine. Otherwise pick classic.

need some help. spoilers ahead, OP

I'm at the casino in the junkyard to get elwoods keycard, but i can't pickpocket or stealth for shit.
the only thing i haven't tried, yet, is to turn off the power, wait for elwood to start walking to the other gambling room and get him with my sledgehammer in that little hallway where there are no guards.
it probably won't work, will it?
>>
>>323428663
You are almost at the end of the game, you should be strong enough to kill a few bots. Not to mention if you kill them fast enough you get to reload/heal/recharge before the next wave.

>>323428737
>Imagine having an inventory of nothing but shield chargers
Take a look at the picture again, 12 turn cooldown.

I think it would be great for those rare fights where enemies use EMP nades, so you can have at least a % of your shield back. Fights rarely last for more than a few turns.
>>
>>323428828
it does
>>
>>323428828
I'm not sure if sledges count as silent weapons, but it should work with knives so use one. Stealth would be useful, too.

Traps work very well since it's an uncontrolled area.
>>
How do you guys deal with item management in this game?

I aint even a hoarder. I carry 65~ unit of weight for supplies and gear and have a max carrying weight of 130.

I am tired of the WRPG style of shopkeepers. Having to haul shit to specific vendors is annoying as fuck. Risk my ass to fight strong monsters and enemies to take their crap, but nobody buys fucking anything. They wouldn't even buy them for a discount, so I just end up dumping shit on the floor and check back later when they want to buy shit again. At this point, collecting loot to sell isn't fun. It is tedium to find a buyer. And I only have like 18k monies.
>>
>>323428890
I can kill the first two waves no problem, but then the third one usually kills Nevil then the four adds on to it and overwhelm me.
>>
>>323429219
You are approaching it wrong. You don't take something to sell unless it has a high value for the weight. You have a low carry weight so you need to be even more choosy about what is worth carrying to sell. Everything else you only take if you actually plan to use it.
>>
Welp, OP is a new guy so I guess we'll have to be a bit more careful with spoilers. Alright, here's something about the Foundry prison:

Holy shit what a wonderful quest. So many options, hnng. Sneak in using the vents, find secret tunnel, get your guy out. Or just sneak in, and kill him. If you get spotted by a camera, pass a persuasion check to get permission to watch the security tapes. Or just sneak in and delete them. Or kill everyone and destroy everything. Or pickpocket the keys. Or ask the chief of the prison to grant you a visit with the prisoner, find the murder weapon, and use your influence as the savior of Foundry to convince everyone they got the wrong guy. And they all gladly assist you because after everything you've done for them, why would you try to deceive them now. I finished this quest four times it was that good.
>>

Why are you complaining about carry weight if you dumped the carry weight stat all the way to 3?

What next, are you going to set your PER to 3 and complain you can't hit shit?

>I am tired of the WRPG style of shopkeepers. Having to haul shit to specific vendors is annoying as fuck.
Don't haul it then?

>Risk my ass to fight strong monsters and enemies to take their crap, but nobody buys fucking anything.
Here's a funny thing, if this crap was so valueable you wouldn't want to get rid of it so much.

If you don't want that shit, why would the trader want it?

>They wouldn't even buy them for a discount, so I just end up dumping shit on the floor and check back later when they want to buy shit again.
Just as you wouldn't buy any of their crap if it was for a discount. Imagine if every trader in the game would ask you to buy his 17 assault rifles with a 10%, I'm sure you would buy all of it right?

>At this point, collecting loot to sell isn't fun. It is tedium to find a buyer.
Start collecting light but valueable stuff like pistols, energy weapons and electronics then.

>And I only have like 18k monies.
That's a lot.

>>323429463
>>323430382

>Only sell what's valuable.

That's obvious. I got 130 max carrying weight because I am not hoarding and only taking what's most expensive. Even then, I end up piling up more war trophies faster than I can sell them. And having to go up and down elevators or go several trips to other towns to sell your haul is just a waste of time.

I guess nobody else find WRPGs shops annoying and just live with it?

>so is it worth going above 35 in biology
Yes.

>hypos and shit are already widely available right
The strongest Super Hypos are not, you can only craft them. They are twice as strong as the advanced ones.

>aegis is a worse morphine right
It's weaker than morphine, but it doesn't damage you after the effect ends.

>you can craft morphine with 35
But you can't craft most of the drugs that are not available otherwise.

It's funny actually, since most of the good drugs are craft only, you have no idea what are you missing. There is a drug that makes you immune to stuns/incapacitations for 4 turns, one heals 40 HP per turn for 6 turns, other one gives +2 to all the physical stats, there is lots of useful drugs.
>>
>>323431460

>I end up piling up more war trophies faster than I can sell them
>>
>>323431751
so whats the highest i should go
>>
>>323431860
Depends on what drugs sounds the most useful to you.

Stuns/incapacitation immunity requires 60, +2 to all stats requires 130, super hypos require 100 etc.

It's worth to max it, especially if you use poisons, too. Later in the game there are poisons that prevent enemies from using psi and one that summons a doppleganger.
>>
>>323431813

When are you going to address the annoyance of having to go to different people just to sell something is just a waste of time? Or are you going to pretend meaningless travel time is fun?

It's not annoying since I check their stuff as well and buy shit from them. I perceive them as actual traders and trade with them, not as my personal loot relievers.

>Or are you going to pretend meaningless travel time is fun?
Yeah, actually traders are a waste of time.

There should be a big "CONVERT STUFF I DON'T WANT TO MONI" button on the screen, and another "CONVERT MONI TO STUFF I WANT" one.

Just as currencies other than € and $ in real life? Local currency is a thing.

>And when you have Charons, the fuckers always want you to pay in Charons instead of SGS bucks at SGS. So I have to drop Charons to prevent the autopay from using Charons.
Yeah that is a problem, but it's a bug as far as I know. They used to prioritize credits before the release, dunno why it was changed, I don't like it either.

>Here's my biggest "Hoard" and inventory
Well it is a hoard. Not a very big one, but it is.

You should be able to get rid of most of that stuff pretty quickly though, but I don't think any trader buys throwing knives. Electronics traders buy energy weapons.

And why are you hoarding leather armors? You said you understand to pick light and valueable stuff, yet you hoarded 4 items that weight 6-8 and are worth less than a 1000.

>Having a unified "General Store" would have been much better for the game.
But traders don't want that much of your stuff. You don't even want it yourself, why are you surprised?
>>
This game really needs some improvements to make it so you don't have to rely on the wiki as much. Having to check a wiki to properly play a game is bad design.

>some combat stats like Armor Penalty, Fortitude, Resolve, Damage Resistance and Damage Threshold is never explained in detail
I propose tooltips on the combat stats window, explaining what everything means.

>it's hard to plan out your character properly because viewing all feats is very cumbersome when it's just in one huge list
I propose a better overview of all feats, perhaps using icons grouped by related base ability, with tooltips for details.
Or at least add a filter to the feat list that shows feats related to skills you have already put points into, and hides the rest. That way you can easily see which feats are coming up.

>it's hard to keep track of all component and which goes with which crafting blueprint
I propose that on the tooltips of a component, it is shows "used for recipe: x, y" provided you have learnt the blueprint.
>>
>>323435334
>This game really needs some improvements to make it so you don't have to rely on the wiki as much. Having to check a wiki to properly play a game is bad design.

I love whodunit quests so much. Not sure if I should leave SGS to solve it, but heading to Core City in search for more information. From what I found out talking to NPCs and reading medical records
the most likely scenario to me is Quinton offing him with the stolen needle and the neurotoxin he requested from Pascal. He was Biocorp, the victim participated in anti-Biocorp riots, so there is some motivation.

Or maybe not, and I'm on the wrong track.

The spike in quality is so drastic it's like I'm playing an entirely different game.

Just finished the quest, it was top tier by crpg standards, one of the best detective quests I've seen in any game. You had to piece it together from many different sources, you had to pay attention to what you've read, the game didn't tell you where to go and what to do next so you had to use basic logic, and you could even fail.

11/10 quest of the game.

Not really, the game has enough oddities to become balanced for people who don't lockpick.

It does forces you to explore instead of grind, and personally I will take ANYTHING except grind.
>>
Sledgehammers is shit in late-game, and Knives are only good for stealth.... with the proper perks attached, perks you can't start with. If interested in Melee, go for Unarmed/Gloves, ironically- they have the most options to damage/stun.

Persuasion and Intimidate are pretty much worthless. Don't even bother.

Thermokinetics may look appealing as a psy school, but finding teachers for it will be difficult- consider putting the points you'd spend in it on Thought Control and Telekinesis instead.

Dodge and Evasion cap at 60%, meaning at best, enemies will still hit you 40% of the time. manage your points in these skills accordingly.
>>
>>323448917
> I pity those fools who sided with the Protectorate, they are missing out.
You still get to join the Protectorate, I'm talking about the Foundry quest with cameras and all of that, not the one Abram gives you.

I joined the Protectorate because it pays off to have powerful friends and Free Drones, no matter their intentions, are batshit and hypocritical.

Not really, olny the free Maura mission was done for the Drones actually.

The info for Abam and the cyber bug were all about getting info, since the organization Abram works for is all about information.

As far as I know all the Jack quests are done for independent customers.

You seem to think they work for for Drones, which is not the case. They are an independent organization that works for everyone as long as the money is good, you will see for yourself later.

Coretech has the best electronics trader.

Prateors have a shit trader that *sometimes* has a rare special ammo blueprints, so he's a good pick if you really want them.

JKK trader is pure shit, but they give you access to two 3XP oddities you can't get if you join other faction (well you can get one fi you get lucky in the Gautlet, but the other one is truly exclusive to them).

3 for tac vests (regular/black overcoat/other overcoats)

You are in luck, I did a small wall on text on sniper rifles, it's all you need to know.

>also want a backup weapon but not sure what
Pistols are really good as a backup since they don't get any moving/close range penalties and don't require any STR/skill, so if you get hit by a debuff you will still be accurate.

For snipers I reccomend 9mm Neo Lugers. They got a shit crit damage, but in return they give a 5% to hit chance and have a very reliable damage spread, and that's what you are looking for in a backup weapon.

7.62 is fine until you can craft 9mm lugers, just stay away from 5mm, it's damage is too low.
>>
>>323467960
I use the mp6. It's a bitweak but it has a very tight damage spread and good bonuses to burst accuracy and crit chance.
>>
>>323468429
How about a compensated 9mm hornet, seems like a good deal for long range burst damage.

I crafted a 7.62 muzzled 9 shots the damage is meh. With concentrated fire is not as big as the 9mm 7 rounds

Imo the game is very atmospheric despite not being very story focused. It's a niche game which appeals to people who liked the combat system in games like the orginal Fallouts and for people who enjoy the same type of character building. There are a ton of different builds which are viable and a big part of the fun for me at least is playing around and finding what works. The combat system is the best in any recent turn based RPG imo.
The world building is pretty nice too, it helps a lot with the atmosphere and it's also one of the more open-ended RPG's of late (although not in the very beginning.) It's a game with high replay value because you can play with so many different builds and join several different factions but it doesn't appeal to anybody.

>>
>>323473320
>How many odditiies do you think I'm missing without having leveled lockpicking.
Not many actually, if any.

Lockpicking makes you find them faster, but you will start finding a fuck ton of duplicates after maxing them, so it's only good for leveling up sooner.

Most if not all unique oddites are in open containers that everyone can open.
>>
>>323473141
the game also has a decent crafting system and I like the way the game's economy works although I've heard a lot of people complain about it. Merchants will only buy items of a certain type that they happen to be looking for at any given time, this shopping list of theirs changes pretty often but it will almost always be items of the same type that they sell. For example the merchant in the armory at the beginning will say he wants to buy 4 firearms, 2 crossbows, 4 crossbow parts and you can sell up to that many of those items as long as they fit into that category.
The reason I don't understand the complaints about it is because the enemies drop so much valuable loot you can often clean a merchant out of all their available currency even with these restrictions. Seriously /v/ how are you not rich?

I like the concept of the character building but in the beginning it was too overwhelming/time consuming for me. I didn't feel like wasting a ton of time starting and starting over remaking my build just to figure out how the stats work and what's important.

You guys can call me a fucking casual but I just used one of this russian guy's builds and I've been having a great time with it. As far as I can tell it's pretty basic.

knowing what I know now about the stats and shit in this game however I'd probably completely drop persuasion/intimidation and dump those points into hacking/lockpicking or crafting or even throwing.

Never did an SMG run, but crafted one with rapid reloader and muzzle brake sounds the best.

I hear MP5 is very good, too.

Jaguar — low AP cost, low critical chance
Steel Cat — high critical damage bonus
Jackrabbit — increased burst precision, low range
Impala (crafting only) — high critical chance
H&K MP5 (unique) — relatively low AP cost, bonus to precision and burst precision, the only 9mm SMG

I think the MPX is the best SMG tho

Persuasion is nice, more lore and good endings in some quests are worth a few points.

>tfw insufficient skill to unscrew a vent
what skill even governs this?

how am i supposed to deal with traps once i've detected them but can't disarm them

Lockpicking
The alternative is to use a crowbar and hope your strength is high enough

> MPX
Where is it? I want to complete my collection. I also need to know where the .44 revolver is.

Lockpicking.

Yes it's dumb.

If you feel uncertain, feel free to pirate it first, well, you know, if you considered buying that is. This IS a niche game, and since it was made by one person, you might find some things frustrating.

Throw a nade at them if it's a mine.

If not, you can only walk in, or make someone else do that.

lockpicking or str + crowbar

>unscrew a vent
People kept on trying to crawl through vents in the years before the underrails construction, so it was decided that in this new beginning subversive faggots wouldn't have as easy a time.

Dodge + Evasion on a psi monk or no?

The Tchort quest to find the missing Rassophore.

Once you find him, search the area after dealing with him.

You need something like 8 at minimum, and even higher for some vents. It's quite hilarious that entering vents without lockpicking is the privilege of those who need vents the least.

Thanks, I missed it somehow.

That's what I'm doing. It's....well, I'm alive. The shield helps. So does initiating combat first.
>>

Dodge definitely. But since you'll be close to your enemies for the most time, evasion would be useless. You can throw up a shield and use Sprint to get close without risking much damage.
