Dead Space 1 is perfect, Dead Space 2 is good, Dead Space 3 is a mediocre game that would work better as a game not called Dead Space.

The first two are good...I lean more towards the second gameplay wise but the first nailed the atmosphere and story telling down well. I couldn't even finish the third one.

I thought dead space 2 was the best out of all of them. The suit designs and the cyber religious environment was amazing. I really wasn't too thrill repairing a planet cracker.

It's Resident Evil 4 in space. Except worse, because at least RE4 seemed like it didn't have the pretense of horror.

They reused assets from 1 and 2 in sound design but can't include the enemies. What a shitshow. In 1 every time they introduced a new enemy it was top notch. USM Valor level was kinda shit after it got action-y, but the buildup with the Twitcher got me good son.

I actually loved all the Dead Space games. I thought they were all very well done. Obviously 3 isn't the best game but it's still a solid game that was pretty cool.
What's a bigger shame is that there's been lots of money put into it, such as spin off games, and two anime films, but because the series sold less and less as it went on; there's never going to be a fourth, nor continued.

Although, weirdly, since Visceral made Battlefield Hardline, they put in some Dead Space related icons you can use which gives me a little hope. Although, they are busy working on the next Star Wars game now...

I heard a story that one of the management of Square Enix said that a game is given 3 chances before it is considered a success to a publisher, otherwise it's not worth them spending more time on it. If you look at how Dead Space evolved over the 3 main games, you can tell theyou knew it wasn't selling and tried their best to make it sell. Even EA did, as crap as they are. I remember seeing tonnes of adverts for Dead Space 3 on release, but it just didn't work.
>>
>>323419245
I don't know what they were thinking with the story, it's like they brought a completely different team to write the story of DS3. Yeah, they brought some sense to the necromorph origins, but I still think it would've beem better if the first marker was made by some dying race thay wanted to revive themselves, but it all went wrong. It would fit the dreary tone of Dead Space atleast

Dead Space 2 is the single greatest "cinematic" video game ever made.

The gameplay is solid with differing enemy types, interesting weaponry/equipment, and great enemy, puzzle, and set piece pacing.

The atmosphere and horror are superb, even if the don't reach the heights of the first game but I'd argue those lesser aspects are made up for by the quality of the action they're replaced with. Some genuinely great scenes stick with me to this day.

The story is mysterious, varied, well written, and well executed while also doing some clever things along the way. The cast, too, is interesting and well acted with their own motivations, backgrounds, and personalities.

The game is gorgeous to look at and the graphical difference between it and its predecessor are actually rather staggering. The art design is easily some of the best work of the last generation.

The world design benefits from the excellent art design and manages to take you through many different environment themes even though the game takes place in a single station.

There is no HUD superimposed on top of the game and all elements related to it are in the game world while still being just as helpful and in view as any game with normal HUD.

The sound design is fantastic and well implemented and the the score, while mostly ambient, keeps things in the proper spooky mood. The few stand out tracks that are less ambiance and more music are fantastic as well.

Gameplay bleeds right into cutscenes and then back out again. We never leave Isaac's perspective and follow him the whole way. The only loading screen in the entire thing is the very first one when you boot it up. After that the game never stops until you do or reach end. There is zero down time.

The game is lengthy and highly replayable with difficulty modes, new game plus, collectibles that add to the lore and your arsenal, and a fantastic easter egg gun.

Dead Space actually sold well, and that was the problem. Dead Space 1 sold over a milion in its first year, Dead Space 2 sold 2 milion in its first year, it was the success of Dead Space 2 that made EA think: "Oh, I guess its action that they want!"

I mean fuck, I think even Extraction sold a milion

It unlocks all types of weapons and all types of ammo at the very start which seriously ruins the feeling of progression.
Glad i've played right after release.

Finished the first one.

Great game with godawful pacing, feels like it is twice the length it deserves to be. No matter how well made your game is, you can only ask me to fix generators so many times before I get bored.

>Dead Space 3 is a mediocre game that would work better as a game not called Dead Space.
That's a good way of putting it. It's not a bad game, it's just not Dead Space.

Lost Planet 3 would have been an acceptable title.
>>
>>323412139
It's a third person shooter. There's nothing to like about it.
>>
>>323419795
you basically get mid-game armors and all the weapons at the start without having to spend in-game currency, basically making part of the resource management useless
>>
>>323419970
It does get a little long in the tooth around Ch. 7, but the first few chapters and the last couple, mwah, all my love for this old man in space miner suit.

The best ones possible from what i remember.
>>
>>323420096
A lot of games nowadays in Vidya are GOOD GAMES, but they keep pushing them as sequels so it's SHIT.

>Hitman Absolution
>Halo 4
>Dead Space 3

All games that are good, but aren't like the previous installments. If you called any of those games their own unique ones, the disappointment of being different probably would've avoided getting them panned by some.
>>
>>323420115
All the best horror games are third person

all the best shootin' games are third person too
>>
>>323420231
no, they have the same look of the advanced suit but worse armor and item slots.

dlc armors have 15% damage reduction and 15 item slots, base game one has 20% reduction and 25 item slots

I actually played Space 1 'n' 2 on my 360 recently, Dead Space 1 on the 360 still looks competitive with a few recent PC releases, especially if you did a HD remake. The art direction on that game was super dedicated.
>>
>>323419532
even dead space 2 had a lot of tv ads and the "moms hate it" constantly featured in youtube first page.
it probably didnt sell as much as ea expected (especially with their marketing budget), then they tried to go more action for ds3 and appeal a wider audience.

they saw the numbers were not raising, and they eventually killed the series
>>
>>323419539
They sort of fucked themselves over when they completely changed the function of the marker between 1 and 2. Lore in DS has been anything but stable.
>>
>>323419829
>it was the success of Dead Space 2 that made EA think: "Oh, I guess its action that they want!"
I can follow that line of reasoning, at least. Too bad it went down the way it did.
