It was supposed to be cheesy as fuck just like the original.
The limited singleplayer campaigns were the result of a small budget and short dev time thanks to Sony's lack of confidence in the IP, and even still the SP was pretty decent.

Most racing games with an open world as a hub are arcade, and not sims.
The few NFS closer to sims are the shift series, and I'm pushing it.
