IMO 4 was the perfect modernization of standard MGS gameplay. Basically everything was improved (obviously some questionable decisions but as a whole it was improved), and the amount of gun porn was insane down to actually getting the fire rate of the AN94 perfect for not only burst but full auto as well, although my biggest gripe with that aspect was that there was no FAMAS for when you have the safety scene flashback (however with how detailed the guns were in 4 its probly cause it would show why that scene was technically stupid in MGS1)

The original version used the fixed camera but it was shit for MGS3s level designs. If you really want to play it that way you're still able to set it that way when you boot the game.

4 needed to give you more time to play around with your items or your environment. It had a shitton of cool gear and interaction but was constantly pushing you forward and preventing you from backtracking. The chapters themselves put you into new environments and never let you go back to the previous areas, to use the war economy system or new weapons on different guards. I'm not sure you even see a normal guard/soldier after chapter 3.

the game is meant to be played slowly, you're meant to use the radar, the directional mic, to change camo every 20 steps. The moment they added the new camera they invalidated the original because seeing and shooting enemies from across the map became a dominant strategy.
