EA has an exclusive license to make starwars games that lasts 10 years with Disney. Until this expires I gaurentee you we will just get shovel after shovel of microtransaction platforms, DRM hubs, DLC packs and season passes that cost $50 and are going to be obsolete in a year due to the game having a yearly release schedule.

My first PC game was some obscure educational DOS game about shapes that came on a 5ΒΌ floppy disk. I wish I knew what it was, but I don't think I ever will.

KOTOR II probably. At risk of sounding like some pretentious jerk off, and I'll say it anyway, the story and themes really resounded with me. Especially the contrast of the exile's dilema being viewed by different people- some thought of it as pathology, others perversion, while others thought it was a sickness that needed "healing". The whole meeting with the council the second time really helped hit this home with them saying the exile was broken and blind etc and having Kreia interject with the opposite.

One problem with the Gunboat, was it was a giant target with a huge as fuck hitbox, so you took a lot of damage if you wound up being the primary (or only) target of the enemy. Same problem with the B-Wing, the ship itself had a fairly narrow cross-shaped profile, but it's hitbox was that of a giant fucking brick, so you always got shot to shit in it.
TIE/I was probably the most fun in XvT general melees; agile, quad cannons, fun as hell.

There's very limited freedom in the Rogue Squadron games, yeah, but it's not like (for example) Lylat Wars levels of being on rails.But fuck 90% of Rogue Squadron missions for being "Defend this" "Defend that" "Don't shoot those!" "Don't blow up that!"

The music was dumb, though. They got rid of the dynamic MIDI stuff that ebbed and flowed with how your battle was going - in favor of generic John Williams.

Another place for multiplayer seems to be www.darkjedi.org. They don't seem to have a lot of members, but at least their X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter forums seem fairly active.
I'm just jumping in, though. I hope to find more games - even if it's just 1v1 dogfighting (which is partly what I played today).

It's on rails by any means, it's not 6DOF but you can still fly where you want.
It's more like all-range mode in Star Fox 64, but you don't have to do things the exact same way every time, and you can choose a variety of ships

So far I only played the Rogue Squadron serie, Racer on N64, and XvT original. Was thinking of getting the one with Boba Fett, but I've read mixed reviews about it.

Great game.
I also liked how Rebel Strike included the entirety of Rogue Leader as a co-op mode. I'm not sure why they did it that way, though. I would have liked co-op versions of the actual Rebel Strike missions, but the co-op mode consisted only of missions from the previous game, as if Rogue Leader's co-op mode got finished too late in development and they just moved it to the next game. (Oh fuck, is that actually what happened?)
