To everyone who complained about driving in Grand Theft Auto IV.

You also hate Gran Turismo, right?

It's fine if realistic car simulation and physics are not your thing, but to call the same physics bad? It doesn't mean they're bad physics; it just means you suck.

Have fun only playing Need for Speed and Mario Kart for the rest of your virtual life.

>but i love gran turismo, and still hate gta iv, wah wah wah

ITT: OP admits he's never driven a car.
>>
>>323392409
Gran Turismo 6 borrowed some of the driving physics from GTA 4. So the game was more advanced than haters give credit for.

The handling is ridiculous, super wobbly suspension and no grip

Aren't you just adorable?
>>
I'm too scared to drive a car in real life so I have no comparison.
>>
>>323392878
This. Still prefer San Andreas, but GTA IV's driving didn't treat me like everything was an arcade sim.
>>
>>323392409
It wasn't fun.
>>
>>323392664
>>323392735
I say this every GTA thread:
cars do NOT turn perfectly at high speeds, they start to understeer and crash if not driven properly. Just because you don't understand basic laws of physics doesn't mean a game is bad. If you'd just take the time to learn the roads and how cars work you'd have a lot more fun
>>
>>323392409
This has to be the weakest bait I've ever seen. What made you think this deserved it's own thread, OP?
>>
>>323393443
No, that's not fun.
>>
>>323393443
So your car has jello for suspension?
>>
>>323393634
I was just in my friend's 4runner earlier today while he was doing some wicked sicks on some dirt trails and I can say from experience that the vast majority of cars have HEAVY bodyroll compared to most games. The great part about having bodyroll in games is that it takes actual skill to drive and you feel like you've come so far after mastering it.
>>
>>323393443
Agreed. If you want less-than-realistic physics, then play the other GTA games. But don't bash GTA IV just because you're too lazy and impatient to properly learn how to play.
>>
ill ask this here: how the hell do i get GTA4 to work on steam? it says i need games for windows live, but apparently thats been disbanded...so am i fucked?
>>
>>323394073

IV isn't realistic though
>>
Frankly if you guys are going to complain about GTA IV you should be complaining about it's heinous PC port that renders it unplayable even on a PC way past it's min specs
>>
>>323394073
>Don't bash a game because it changed the core game-play compared to the previous games.

.......retard
>>
>>323392409

I don't care if it's realistic or not, it's still super fun. It feels more skillful than the other GTA games.

>GTA:IV
>take cabs everywhere

>GTA:V
>drive everywhere
It's not "just" that you'll roll over if you take a turn at more than 30mph, it's that the burgs are all separated in different ways where you have to go through the same highway and always avoid the same toll booths and most city blocks are relatively short. Not to mention that you won't always have the vehicle you want so half the time you're relegated to driving a mid-speed sedan.

Fuck man, following people while on a horse while going through a straight line in RDR was more fun than that. It still amazes me how many people go back and try and paint IV in a better light now that V is out

>>323395202
I'm through arguing about IV/V because people have their obvious biases and the games do things differently, but I will never understand people who prefer GTA:III because VC and SA were improvements in every single fucking way.
>>
>>323395257
Go drive in your neighborhood.
Hit 45 mph
Turn the wheel full lock at the first 90 degree turn you see
Tell us what happens bud
>>
4 was far too understeer-ey despite all the cars feeling as if they were on bald dry rotted tires (right up until you tried to maintain a drift). That being said, I liked the driving a little more then 5, which felt kinda like Sleepy Doges, which felt like you were driving a train.
>>
>>323395103
My least favorite of the series, game and protagonist wise.
>>
>>323395103
Niko was the only great main character in the entire GTA series. The others were good, like Tommy Vercetti voiced by Ray Liotta, but Niko was by far the deepest and most interesting.
>>
>>323395261
>That's like saying Super Mario Galaxy doesn't feel like a Mario game because it's in 3D.

Yes I hated the 3d Marios. Ditto Zelda 2 and Majora's mask. I quite Nintendo Completely because of the N64.
>>
>>323395484
Go to your local grocery store or bank
Rob them
Then hide in an alley three blocks away waiting for the cops to disappear and forget the crime ever happened
Tell us what happens bud

IVfags are this retarded
>>
>>323395484
Then go steal an 80's landbarge with couch-like suspension. Proceed to brake hard after turn in and then floor the gas. You'll probably do a skid of moderate hektikness, unlike in IV where you'd plough straight into a guard rail.
>>
>>323395484

People always give this example, as if the cars don't slide around otherwise. Not like the cars in IV can even go 45mph anyway
>>
The thing about 4 was that the cars slid all wrong. It was nearly impossible to maintain a drift, but extremely easy to slide. Might be the fault of whatever was controlling the transmission, because I remember it never downshifting when I wanted it to, but that doesn't really excuse it either.
>>
>>323395463
GTA 3 made the bigger impact. True that doesn't make the game "better," but it counts for something, I think.

Also, the camera was set much higher behind your car when driving, so you could better see around you.
In Vice City, the camera is too low and far behind your car. And in San Andreas, the camera controls are on the right stick, while the gas is set to the X button. So you had to rock your thumb back-and-forth between the stick and the button. Which majorly sucked.
>>
>>323395484
The only time I've ever had this happen is when I was turning on a gravel road. And even then, no jello suspension.
>>
in GTA 4 you had to keep turning the analog stick because all the cars under steered. The car's suspension moved more too.

Cars in GTa 5 are too stiff.
>>
>>323395869
>And in San Andreas, the camera controls are on the right stick
Are you actually complaining about the fact that San Andreas gives you 360 degree shooting while in a vehicle as oposed to III and VC where you could only do a drive-by to your immediate left and right?
>>
They aughta just license the driving model from Polyphony for the next GTA. That company fucks around with so much other non-GT stuff that they'd probably accept.

I'm complaining the button layout expects me to have an extra thumb to adjust the camera while I accelerate. Simply putting acceleration to R1 or R2, instead of X, would have fixed this problem.

I think it's locked to like 55

Might be just because I've coincidentally driven a lot of the shitboxes they had in that game, and they really didn't feel anything like the virtual versions.

>>
>>323395352

Niko didn't ever say he wanted to get away from killing, he mentions on multiple occasions that he does it because it pays and he's good at it. His main drive was to find the traitor that got people killed.

>>
>>323396441
I'm sure they didn't actually base the CR-X handling on your old CR-X but the main point I'm trying to make is physics. Obviously Honda tuned up the CR-X in their own specific way but R* tuned it differently in game.
>>
>>323396671
What was your favorite (or least favorite) mission?
I'll know if you're lying
>>
>>323397765
It was more the old murrkian cars that were off. The Caddy, Cutlass/Foxbody thing, the Escalade/Explorer, none of them were like that despite having some of the softest springs the 80's and 90's could provide.
>>
>>323397976
I'll definitely agree that the Foxbody mustang was off, specifically because R* made if FWD for some stupid reason
>>
>>323393560
Yes it is.
>>
Its simple, what works in a simulation racing game does not work in a game where you're actually supposed to be able to navigate through traffic at high speeds.

>say something bad about a game

>>323392409
driving in GTA4 felt rewarding. If you jump into some beat-down piece of shit, it drove and reacted like a beat-down piece of shit.

V just has fast cars and slow cars. The only difference felt is the acceleration, and how great/poor it handles around turns.

Who gives a fuck about realism, it shouldn't matter as long as the game is still enjoyable.
That being said, the driving in IV was more enjoyable than V. Driving in IV is an actual challenge, and it's not a subconscious thing like in V.

The "roll over" shit is such a meme, as is the overall driving criticism.

Also, IV is better than V in so many designs, it's fucking ludicrous.
>>
>>323395638
Not going to talk about the other two games but I agree with you with Metroid. I didn't like that none of Samus weapons or abilities worked like it did in the 2D games. I also was annoyed by how slow Samus was, she moved like a turd on screen. The Metroid Prime games were good for what they were but the 2D games were better. I felt that Nintendo did better with Mario & Zelda since the core 2D teams worked on those. Metroid wasn't as lucky & had to get a separate team.
>>
i dont get the ending

taking the deal with dimitri makes no sense
and neither does getting revenge, since in the previous mission, niko learned that revenge wouldnt make him feel any better

Best mission was probably the one where you drive at 40 miles per hour while listening to some uninteresting people and then shoot some shit. Worst mission was the one where you drive at 40 miles per hour and then shoot some shit. I tried playing them on PC again but realized they were more fun to mod than they were to play.

Just give it up, anon. Arguing that people just haven't played a game with over 25 million sales is dumb as fuck.

Best mission is the bank heist, probably. Although I really liked the bike races in TLAD because they overhauled the bike physics for the DLC and made them one of the few vehicles that can go fast and still be fun to drive.
>>
>>323398752

The only bike that controlled badly in IV was the NRG 900. That was a piece of shit, its nearly impossible to steer.

But the others were fine, especially the Freeway and the Zombie. The Freeway steered pretty much like a car.
