You don't manually increase stats in this game, each vocation has a specific stats they increase when you level up.
For example Warrior grants 40HP and 5 Attack each time you level up.
Fighter only does half per level up iirc amd Ranger gives the highest Stamina growth in the entire game.
So basically there's min-maxing in this game, which should prepare you for BBI.

From what I've seen
Strider: Short bow and daggers, basic 'rogue' class
Ranger: longbow (and daggers?), long range nuker
Assassin: daggers, shortbow, sword and shield, all terrain fuck-engine
Fighter: sword n board, bread n butter
Warrior: big nife
Mage: shitty sorceror
Sorceror: holy shit you just fucking wait til i get this spell off
Mystic Knight: I literally have no idea
Magickkk archer: cheat mode: the archer

If primarily level as a yellow (ranged) class you'll be able to play as any class with decent stats. Or if you spend some time between melee/magic classes your stats will be fine. You can only fuck up your stats if you spend 80+ of your first 100 levels as a purely melee or magic class, which basically locks you into that set of classes.
